One thing's for sure about FabSugar in 2007: Catherine Malandrino was a fan favorite. From celebs, to you guys, to us guys, I think we can all agree that Malandrino is a fabulous fashion house and the woman is an icon. One fine day, Madame Catherine and I had a chat over eclairs in a chic cafe in Paris.

During our interview with Rachel Roy, we talked to the designer about growing up in the Bay Area (Monterey), and the differences between East and West Coast life. Interestingly, Rachel described the East Coast as more segregated compared to the West:
"I grew up in the Bay Area and went to college on the East Coast. Things were quite segregated, and I wasn't into that.

Behold, the fifth and final nominee for FabSugar Designer of the Year: 3.1 Phillip Lim. This young designer is relatively new to the fashion scene, although those familiar with the label Development, would recognize his fresh tailoring and sweet blouses. In 2004, the designer left Development to start a new line with a friend, and now business partner, spawning 3.1 Phillip Lim.

The third annual San Francisco Fashion Week wrapped on Saturday night, ending five days' worth of sleekly produced yet refreshingly humble runway shows from some of the Bay Area's top up-and-coming designers. While the San Francisco event is a far cry from the exclusive haute couture of New York Fashion Week, the evenings' shows highlighted a distinctly artsy, West Coast glam and plenty of trends to keep an eye on in the coming months. Over the next few days on Fabsugar, I'll be highlighting my picks for the most promising collections; until then, here are some of the prevailing themes from the runways:
- Bubble everything.
