You want some fashion die-hards, I'll give you some. A friend of mine who works in the fashion department at the NY Post started assembling her friends for "fashion dinners." It is what it sounds like. She picks a designer - the first "dinner" was Chanel - and the lassies dress inspired by the designer and meet for a fabulous meal. When she shared this brilliant idea with me, I said she had to take pictures of the next one. And who was the next designer muse?!

Christian Lacroix was the name of the game, and Lady Mendl's Tea Salon at the Inn at Irving Place was the place. As you can see, my girls did it up in pink, florals, lace, vintage-inspiration, headpieces, and frilly fun. Who was your favorite Lacroix lady? I can't choose, they are all fabulously festive. An exciting photo shoot took place on last night's The City. I won't give away too much, but it was fun to go behind the seams. In the boys department, Whitney went on a painful blind date, and Roxy had drinks with a bad boy from her past. But nothing was more awkward than the Elle dinner with Cobra Starship. The City Fashion Quiz: Episode 4, "Meet the Fackelmayers"

If you didn't watch The City last night, then the title of this episode may confuse you. Who are the Fackelmayers? They're two adorable brothers, pictured below, that Whitney and Samantha befriend. Later the older Fackelmayer, Freddie, took Whitney to dinner. Olivia continued to experience work drama. According to Erin, the socialite did a little too much schmoozing and not enough working at the Elle party. Jealous, much? Let's see how closely you were following the fashion.

Fab's Fashion Night Out!

While Pop was chatting it up with Gwen Stefani, I was doing what Fashion's Night Out was supposed to do - shopping! And gallivanting and celeb-spotting. You ready for my FNO adventure? My fellow fashion junkie friend and I started at Bergdorf Goodman where many fashion festivities were going on. Along the way I saw Rachel Bilson and Hayden waiting for their car in front of their hotel - I said hi to her but don't think she remembered me from when I interviewed her at Brian Reyes's show last Fashion Week. Moving on, as expected, there was a line to get into the department store, and it was a madhouse inside. I spotted jewelry designer Philip Crangi on the way in; it's hard to miss him, he looks like a pirate. We went straight to the shoe department where we fawned over Balmain boots, Giuseppe Zanotti lovers, awesome Alaia's, and Chanel flats. We quickly decided to leave the Bergdorf madness, but stopped at the M.C.L jewelry counter and said hi to model cutie Karlie Kloss on the way out.

We dashed down to Soho - my main goal of the night was the Intermix party where Sienna and Savannah Miller were hosting. The streets were alive with fashion! I had to pop into J.Crew (conveniently located across the street from Intermix) where I bought a super-cute long gold jeweled mushroom pendant.

Intermix was the place to be, with an ultra-fashion-y crowd and cool '80s tunes. Someone asked us if it was true Rihanna was supposed to come and before I knew it flashes were frenzied and there she was. We were actually in line for the bathroom when this happened and her and her posse came right towards us hence my super-close picture of her. She was incognito chic in a black wraparound-hooded dress and insane Grace Jones-esque shades and crimson lips. She posed for pics with a subtle smile on her face, the crowd was mesmerized. What a cool surprise! But where's Sienna?

There she is, sis in tow. But Sienna's hosting wasn't nearly as impressive as Rihanna's - the Millers sisters were outtie, they didn't even stay for champagne. Wha? We had a dinner date at Indochine at 11p.m., but along the way my friend bought a pair of fly boots from Steven Steve Madden and I scored a glam rockin' purple sequin blazer from Topshop. They aren't online, so I can't show you, but they're dope and we did our economy-stimulating part of the evening. Done and done.

Cruising into Indochine was unreal. Iman was in the first booth, post-bartending at Barneys Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were in the next, and models Lily Donaldson and Daria (Daria!) Werbowy were smoking cigarettes another booth away. Can you say awesome? We met up with fellow bloggers Faran from Nylon and Britt from Fashionista and gobbled up wonderful exotic fare. At one point I was in the bathroom with Iman and totally froze - her beauty is unreal. I headed home and had sweet dreams of fashion - goodnight Fashion's Night Out!

2009 Cannes Film Festival: Tilda Swinton

Wahoo - the 2009 Cannes Film Festival has begun! It was just reported the lavish festival will be toned down this year - Vanity Fair dismissed its black-tie annual and Louis Vuitton didn't book its usual table at the amfAR dinner - but we can still expect fashion on the red carpet from the likes of Diane Kruger, Penelope Cruz, and the enigmatic Tilda Swinton.

Tilda is up first for your judging pleasure. Her monochrome bordeaux layered Haider Ackermann ensemble may also be toned down, but it sure is flattering. Doesn't she look so tall and statuesque? And the mix of materials is lovely.

This is just the amuse-bouche. Look forward to fetes hosted by Dolce & Gabbana and Dsquared2, guaranteed to provide controversial fashion fare.

This year a handful of ballsy designers, celebrities, and industry insiders broke free from their comfort zones and undertook revolutionary projects. Diane von Furstenberg created a Wonder Woman of a collection, Viktor & Rolf broke runway tradition, and Barneys New York's Simon Doonan tied the knot . . . with his boyfriend! But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Read on.

Viktor & Rolf sparked a new virtual runway trend.
Rihanna became the Gucci/UNICEF spokeswoman.
Vogue Italia published its first ever, all-black issue.
Simon Doonan married longtime beau Jonathan Adler.
Victoria Beckham did it all. She created a dress collection, judged Project Runway Season Four's finale, modeled for Marc Jacobs, and signed a deal with Emporio Armani underwear campaign.

Diane von Furstenberg created a Wonder Woman collection, a comic book, launched her "Women We Can" campaign, and hosted a fabulous post-show dinner at New York Fashion Week where yours truly witnessed the action first hand.
Net-a-Porter sold Halston's comeback collection the day after the show, signed an exclusive deal with London house Preen, and created a limited-edition trend book.
Karl Lagerfeld staged another elaborate collection and created a Chanel mobile art pavilion.
Gwyneth Paltrow did a mini movie with Tod's and launched a lifestyle website, Goop.Cute!
The controversial April Vogue cover with Gisele Bundchen and LeBron James was accused of racially stereotyping.
The 2008 Costume Institute Gala went superhero on us.
CFDA made major strides. It announced its fashion award winners (Congrats Womenswear Designer of the Year Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein), backed the model health issue, gave Alexander Wang the 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award, and threw two huge events: 2008 CFDA Awards in June, and 2008 CFDA Awards in November.

Celebrity Style: Molly Sims

Simplicity can be such a beautiful sight sometimes. Behold Molly Sims at the Geoffrey Beene fashion scholarship dinner. It probably took her a total of 10 minutes to throw on that entire outfit: the black Josef Statkus strapless jumpsuit, strappy studded sandals, black cocktail ring, and metallic snakeskin clutch. Still, she looks super fashionable and effortless. Follow Molly's lead and buy yourself a flattering black jumpsuit. It will come in handy when you're seeking a no-fuss, but sassy, party look.

Biggest Headline of 2008: All Fashion Eyes on First Lady Michelle Obama

2008 will be remembered for lots of intriguing events, people, headlines, movies - you know, the usual as the world turns kind of stuff. But, one woman captured the spotlight, ever so subtly, and we're only going to see more of her for at least the next four years. This Chicagoian is a lawyer, wife, and mother, but she is also a style maker. Throughout the year, I started noticing her more in publications like WWD and the New York Times, and when she made Vanity Fair's Annual International Best Dressed List in July, I was all eyes.
And the fashion flock took a quick liking to her, too. Also in July, several designers held a dinner in her honor in New York. She wore a black Isabel Toledo ensemble and adorned her neck with a Tom Binns piece. There, designer Peter Som said, "Michelle and Barack are hopefully the light at the end of a very dark tunnel. And she's fabulously styled. She seems that she has an amazing sense of self. She has impeccable taste, so she is not going to need any help from anybody else."

In August, the Democratic National Convention went down, and Michelle stepped it up in a couple notable looks. She stuck with her local favorite Maria Pinto in a turquoise sheath and you all agreed it was totally Fab. Then we saw her red and purple Thakoon floral shift. We loved it so much - it was so fun and unexpected - and Michelle was the Fab favorite of that week. To our surprise, Julianne Moore wore the same red and purple Thakoon dress in October, cementing the dress as a keeper.

Nov. 4 rolled around and one of the most highly anticipated elections in decades had everyone biting their nails. While Michelle's fiery Narciso Rodriguez dress wasn't my favorite, she made a statement. Nonetheless, the whole family was wearing the bold combination of black and red, and we were proud to have them represent our country. And, the idea of Michelle being a Vogue cover lady was very exciting.

Soon after, we caught up with stylist Robert Verdi and he talked about Michelle's controversial Narcisco dress and what he expects from the future first lady. Interesting stuff.

Most recently, WWD revealed numerous designer sketches that were drawn for Inauguration. From Oscar de la Renta to Christian Lacroix, our imaginations ran wild. Will she choose her local favorite Maria Pinto? An emerging American great like Peter Som or Jason Wu? Or maybe a creation out of left field by Moschino or J.Crew? Michelle has dabbled in all these designers. My guess is she'll wow us with something unexpected. Something modern, colorful, and hopeful.
