We're so accustomed to seeing Rachel Bilson in laid back clothing that when I saw her on the Whitney Art Auction red carpet in her tighter-than-tight Herve Leger number, my jaw dropped. It was as if I was seeing an Herve Leger dress for the first time. When I was finally able to peel my eyes off the dress, I focused on her beautiful Romanek "The Celeste” feathered clutch. The one she's carrying is lambskin but the crocodile version (same feathered style) is available for $1,580. Call Tender boutique at 248-258-0212 to order. Art deco is a design style that started in Paris in the 1920s and flourished worldwide thereafter; it represents an elegance and keen attention to graphic details and strong, symmetrical lines, as well as embellishments like beading, feathers, and fringe. Dean and Dan Caten took it back to senior year of high school for their DSquared2 Fall 2012 collection. The '60s-inspired collection came complete with retro teased hair, cigarettes, and even a gym floor catwalk. "We love telling a story," said the designing duo, when describing the elaborate set. "You get where we're coming from." The collection featured wearable pieces for every personality ranging from skinny rolled-up jeans and glazed leather separates for the rebel child to fitted cardigans and printed pencil skirts for the goodie goodie. For the prom queen, Dean and Dan Caten showed a range of black party dresses embellished with feathered peplums and rhinestones. Highlights included an embellished strapless dress worn by Lindsey Wixson, who, by the way, walked down the runway with her dapper date in an equally intriguing white tuxedo jacket. For Bottega Veneta's Fall 2012 collection, Tomas Maier showed us his take on wearable luxury, highlighting sleek suiting, sharp coats, and an impressive batch of evening wear. “The look is covered up and the materials are virtually impenetrable, yet the effect is powerfully physical,” said Maier. Day wear focused on tailored coats, cropped trousers, and skirt suits featuring brooch-adorned jackets, refined blazers, and knee-length pencil skirts dipped in purple, black, and navy hues. Meanwhile, '40s-inspired shift dresses were injected with a modern touch via sliced leather insets and statement prints. The latter was featured on a striking cap-sleeve dress with a bold corset belt. Evening wear honed in on Maier's love for texture; velvet and feathered cocktail dresses and peplum gowns emoted the perfect sense of opulence, with just the right amount of mystique. Alberta Ferretti kept it simple and sleek for Fall 2012, both in color palette and in silhouette, but "simple" certainly doesn't equate to "boring" here. The plethora of sheer purples, royal blues, and crimson reds told a very rich story - one that we envision a strong, sophisticated, albeit ultra-ladylike style setter won't be able to get enough of come next cold-weather season. More specifically, the seashell-textured bodices attached to diaphanous chiffon ball skirts, monochromatic feather embellishments, and delicate sheer cocktail dresses all exuded a sensuous glamour that rightfully belongs on the red carpet. Oscars, anyone? The attention paid to lengthening shape via vertical paneling and textured piping was a strategic styling move, but more importantly, it's just a super flattering look. Whether you're a total girlie girl or more strong-willed in your fashion preferences, there's a pronounced shoulder, frilly beaded detail, and slick topper to fit the bill.

Trends: Delicate sheer sheaths, menswear-inspired outerwear, pronounced shoulders, and vertical paneling.
Colors: Purple, black, white, crimson, and royal blue.

We've yet to visit the famous Cour d'Honneur at the Palais Royal, Deborah Lloyd's inspiration point for her Kate Spade collection, but we can almost feel the excitement translated into her vibrant array of floral dresses, colorblock skirts, electrifying trousers, and irresistible accessories. The designer added a boyish twist - influenced by Garance Doré Parisian chic style - to her signature polish, pairing slouchy sweaters with cheeky printed skirts and casual tees with girlie feathered skirts. The amount of prints could have been overwhelming, but stylist Brad Goreski managed to temper the bright patterns through structured pea coats and separates. Accessories, Kate Spade's bread and butter, did not disappoint; we were enamored with the polka-dot ankle boots, snakeskin envelope clutches, metallic gold loafers, and ladylike satchels.
