A Sex and the City Tribute: The Fendi Baguette

Sure, when in episode 47 of season three of Sex and the City, when Carrie Bradshaw pleaded with a thief - "They're my favorite pair. I got them half price at a sample sale" - it sounded like she cared more about her Manolo Blahnik strappy sandals than her purple sequined Fendi Baguette. But when that robber ran away with her fabulous purse, we could feel her sadness through the tube. As a tribute to one of Carrie's favorite bags, I tracked down all Fendi Baguettes out there, old and new. Perhaps it will inspire you to get in on the revived trend. I did recently with a black pony-hair Baguette!

On Our Radar: Celebrities Customize Fendi Baguette

I already ordained it Simply Fab, but I think the Fendi Paint-Your-Own Baguette Tote may have just gotten Fabber.

In celebration of the Fendi Baguette's 10th Anniversary, the Italian fashion house asked big names like Scarlett Johansson, Kim Cattrall, Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, and Project Runway Season 4 contestant Chris March to each customize their own Fendi Baguette.

The products - Marchesa's has black and white hand-embroidered feathers on it - will be sold for $2,500 each on eLuxury.com starting April 17, and the proceeds will be donated to the designer's selected charities.

Fab Flash: The Fendi Baguette is Baaaaccck

How appropriate is this: just as SJP is traipsing around Manhattan filming the "Sex and the City" movie, the handbag that was her faithful SATC sidekick, the Fendi Baguette, is getting another spin today on the runway.

The bag was first launched in 1997, so for its ten-year anniversary, it's getting a makeover! For Spring, Fendi redesigned the bag in four sizes, from small to extra large - many feature a detachable strap that turns them into clutches, or for the larger versions, they can be transformed into messenger bags.

The bags are made in all different kinds of materials, from python to plasticized leathers, and many come lavishly embellished, too. Sounds like one of the original "It" bags may be "It" all over again...

FABTV: Fendi on the Great Wall of China

Fabulous. Can you imagine having attended last week's Fendi runway show on the Great Wall of China? I really can't imagine how awe-inspiring it must have been, so we'll have to go by what Kate Bosworth and Thandie Newton thought. China's Great Wall was lit up on Friday with its first ever big-name fashion show.

In this video you see an amazing panoramic view from the Wall and an oh-so-chic posse of fashionistas led by Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. Then, the show, which was constructed on a raised platform on a restored part of the Wall. With Euro-Trance music in the background, we witness a colorful mix of furs and silks complete with awesome belts and the re-introduction of Fendi's signature "Baguettes." In the end, bows by Silvia Fendi and the mastermind Karl Lagerfeld. Again, fabulous.

A Sex and the City Tribute: Manolo Blahnik

Will Carrie end up being the old woman who lived in her shoes? It's just a matter of time before the movie reveals the truth! Such was Carrie's fear at one point in the series, when she found herself down and out in NYC. She was getting evicted and upon seeking financial salvation she realized how much money she had actually spent on her Manolos over the years - lots.

That wasn't the only Manolo reference on the show. You may recall the other status accessory Carrie favored, the Fendi baguette, was stolen along with a pair of Manolos she had scored at a sample sale. As well, the plaid pair she bought to up her height to compete with her nemesis Natasha. Oh! And when she had to take her shoes off for her friend's party and they got stolen, so she "registered" at the Manolo store to get her pair back. Shall I go on? The giddy scene in the Vogue fashion closet when she raced for a pair of "Oh my god, Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes, an urban shoe myth." Who can resist the beautifully crafted, lightweight, slender shoe? Not Carrie.

Sex and the City Style, Season 3

You didn't think that was all the Sex and the City style from season three did you? Pshht. Season three was not only one of the most turbulent of seasons, it was also one of the most fashionable. Did anyone else notice Carrie always dressed a bit more sophisticated for Big than Aidan? She was more casual and funky for Aidan. I like both styles for both men. One thing I really want to find before I die: Carrie's purple sequin Fendi baguette. Yes, the one that was stolen. Are you out there my pretty?
