Flat sandals are intrinsically casual. They're definitely more casual than heels. That is, until you play with metallic leather, rhinestones, and beading, and then you have party-ready fancy flat sandals.

It's always refreshing to see Alexis Bledel. The fact that she paired Loeffler Randal's flat, strappy gold sandals with her Saloni watercolor print dress reminds us of her modern ferver. As well, Alexis is 5'7" and she doesn't look shortened by the long hemline and flat heel; the lightness of the outfit and her fancy flat sandals all flow, perfectly.

Rest assured, this collection is free of over-the-top Bollywood clichés, instead offering up imperial references in its homage to Bombay. While it highlights Chanel's expertise - suiting, ladylike dressing, rich texture, and layers of pretty pearls - it all marries perfectly with a beautiful departure to a more exotic aesthetic. Revealing that "most of the inspiration is from Indian men’s clothes rather than women’s clothes," Lagerfeld's parade of dresses and skirts over pants, gold-embroidered tunics, beaded sandals, and flat booties speaks both to bohemian decadence and wearability.

Madewell had us at hello, with its effortlessly cool separates and easy dresses. We just checked out the Spring collection and as expected, it's another winner showing lots of colors (think reds, blues, and greens), its signature penchant for cool prints and, new to the table, a workwear-inspired denim heritage collection. We especially loved how designer Kin Ying Lee took stripes to a whole new level with pieces like a pair of polished, ultraflattering, diagonal-striped trousers and a silky sleeveless dress with a varying pattern. Madewell amped up its shoe collection for next season, offering up colorful point-toe flats, ankle-strap sandals, and, our favorite, suede ankle boots - perfect for pairing with floral dresses and denim jackets. Valentino Spring 2012

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli honed in on Valentino's signature dreamy elegance for Spring 2012 with a parade of delicately embroidered and embellished lace gowns and dresses. The aesthetic was perfectly in tune with the house - the kind of beautifully femme gowns we'll anxiously await to spot on the red carpet. Then, a few surprises: models in slick Spring leather - some with chiffon detailing - and relaxed, minimalist strapless dresses in blush pinks and daffodil yellows that spoke perfectly to Spring, and were a refreshing change from the signature black, blush, and Valentino red. It's a collection that walks the line between the girlish and the womanly, glamorous and accessible. Even the footwear walks that line with beautiful metallic, flat thong sandals, and flat espadrilles covered in - what else? - lace.

Trends: Feminine dressing, red, embroidery, florals, metallics, sheer, lace, and leather.

Colors: Black, white, red, nude, soft pink, yellow, and blue.

Key Look: A black lace deep-v maxi that would look just as at home on the red carpet as it would out to dinner; a statement red, floor-length gown we're dying to see on the red carpet.

Chloé Spring 2012

Clare Waight Keller debuted her first Spring collection for Chloé since taking the reigns from Hannah MacGibbon. Waight Keller, who most recently headed up design for knitwear brand Pringle of Scotland, showed a superbly light hand, sending flowy silhouettes and a soft palette down the runway. There was a hint of menswear in the cut of boxy shirts, blouses, and trousers, but it all felt very feminine thanks to prints - pretty florals - and colorblocking that mixed tones of blush and nude with deeper red or blue tones. Highlights were definitely the pleated pieces, which swished down the runway and gave a bouncy feel to the carefree collection. We can't wait to see what Waight Keller does next.

Trends: Pleats, colorblock, boxy silhouettes.
Colors: Nudes, blushes, rose, garnet, navy, white, cream.
Key Look: The pleated pieces; a beautiful nude tunic over a white romper.

Moschino Cheap & Chic Spring 2012

Rossella Jardini always brings out the fun in Fashion Week with her Moschino Cheap & Chic line, and her latest Spring collection didn't disappoint. The lucky ones who got to attend the show were treated with fresh fruits and vegetables free for the taking on farmers market-style tables, which, of course, set the theme for the collection. Apple, grape, carrot, onion, and pepper prints all made its way on the runway via maxi dresses, car coats, and tiered skirts. For the strawberry lover, Jardini created a pink dress adorned with black, seed-like beads and a green bow. So cute. Since no farmers market is complete without flowers, Jardini completed the theme with an array of floral print shifts and notable pouf-skirt minidresses decorated with pretty watercolor prints. If this doesn't make you want to gobble up your fruits and veggies, we don't know what will.

Trends: Pouf-skirt minidresses, fruit prints, shift dresses, tiered skirts.
Colors: Yellow, green, white green, black, seafoam green.
Key Look: The strawberry dress and pouf-skirt minidresses were adorable.
