2010 Spring: Calvin Klein, CK Jeans, and CK Underwear

Clean. Precise. Minimal. Three terms Calvin Klein wants you to use when describing its Spring '10 collection. Staying true to the house's less-is-more aesthetic, Francisco Costa has delivered a line of basics with a sexy utilitarian nature. You'll find organic fabrics and most colors of the rainbow: sand, white, and khaki as staples, canary, melon, poppy, fuchsia, turquoise, and cobalt as accents. Drawstring cargos, denim vests, fitted blazers, parkas, denim judo pants, and shirt dresses are all solid. But one print piece stands out as the cool black sheep: a black-and-white, tie-dye dress that's feminine and bold.

Swimsuits are also part of the Spring family - a two-piece in warm gray and a one piece in solid gray or gray Bengal print. The handbags are equally minimal; hobos, totes, and rounded clutches are smooth and unstructured, with gold and silver hardware. Wooden-stacked heels and flat sandals are au naturel and sporty.

Fab Flash: And the CFDA Fashion Awards Winners Are . . .

Last night brought in the upper echelon of fashion-design talent into a hub of fashion frenzy as everyone gathered at the New York Public Library awaiting the announcement of this year's CFDA winners. Celebrities showed up to lend their support but what's really important here are the winners. And they are . . .

Fab Flash: Prada, Calvin Klein Reveal Celebrity Guests to Costume Institute Gala

As the biggest singular fashion event of the year approaches - The Met's Costume Institute Gala on May 5 - designers have already started to announce which celebrities they are bringing as guests.

Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein revealed that he is dressing Fergie and Liv Tyler - no surprise there, since he's brought Liv to the event the past couple of years. He hinted that Fergie and Liv weren't his only two guests, but wouldn't name any more names.

Meanwhile, Miuccia Prada has invited recent Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton and actress Elizabeth Banks to accompany her.

Remember, this year the Gala's theme is superheroes, so it will be interesting to see how much the attendees play into that. I can't wait!

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Calvin Klein

The Calvin girl for Spring is quite a will-'o-the-wisp. The collection was very ephemeral and barely there, and the cuts were of the essential Calvin Klein persuasion. There were no frills, no muss, just clean, minimal pieces.

Pretty watered-down shades of blue, pink, yellow, gray, nude, and white, along with a few green pieces formed designer Francisco Costa's color palette. Everything was pure and fresh, from the green calf-length shift dress to the cream kimono-inspired jacket.

The essence of Calvin is here to stay, and I'm not going to complain - it's so elegant! I'm loving the streamlined look for Spring, it's so effortless.

Cruise 2008: Calvin Klein

Nothing comes between me and my Calvins - not this time, anyway! Francisco Costa did a wonderful job once again for Calvin Klein - the dresses are very body-conscious - yet minimal, the suits look comfy and well-cut, and the swimwear, well, there's one that's totally retro and cute!

But most of all, the thing I love about this collection is the colors. The aquas, greys, beiges and whites remind me of the beach and the surf, but then there are these super-bright, almost neon, blocks of orangey-red and magenta. There's even one outfit that combines the orangey-red on top and aqua on bottom - a color combination I never would have thought of, but it so works. Bravo, Francisco, for staying true to the CK aesthetic and yet still bringing something new to the table!

Eva Mendes strutted her exotic stuff on the red carpet wearing a shimmering V-neck Calvin Klein gown designed by her date Francisco Costa. Her dress is pretty, but it's her accessories that make her look unique. It was announced that Eva will continue to represent Calvin Klein by appearing in the both the Calvin Klein Jeans and the Calvin Klein Underwear Fall global ad campaigns. Hotness. The Costume Institute Gala, kicking off May 4, has everyone giddy with anticipation. Like prom, one of the most important decisions is choosing your dress and date. This year, the "Model as Muse" theme has inspired many designers to choose models as their dates, while others are sticking to their usual beau and celeb buddies. Word has it Marc Jacobs will dress fellow cohost Kate Moss in his own design, while Madonna and Kerry Washington are set to don Louis Vuitton. "How did you hear that?" said Washington. "I am so excited about my ensemble. I know what I'm wearing, but I'm not telling."

Diane von Furstenberg created a Wonder Woman of a collection, Viktor & Rolf broke runway tradition, and Barneys New York's Simon Doonan tied the knot . . . with his boyfriend! But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Read on.

Viktor & Rolf sparked a new virtual runway trend.
Rihanna became the Gucci/UNICEF spokeswoman.
Vogue Italia published its first ever, all-black issue.
Simon Doonan married longtime beau Jonathan Adler.
Victoria Beckham did it all. She created a dress collection, judged Project Runway Season Four's finale, modeled for Marc Jacobs, and signed a deal with Emporio Armani underwear campaign.

Diane von Furstenberg created a Wonder Woman collection, a comic book, launched her "Women We Can" campaign, and hosted a fabulous post-show dinner at New York Fashion Week where yours truly witnessed the action first hand.
Net-a-Porter sold Halston's comeback collection the day after the show, signed an exclusive deal with London house Preen, and created a limited-edition trend book.
Karl Lagerfeld staged another elaborate collection and created a Chanel mobile art pavilion.

Last night in New York City, the who's who of the fashion community gathered for the announcement of the 2008 CFDA Fashion Awards nominations.

Akin to the fashion Oscars, the actual 2008 CFDA Fashion Awards ceremony will take place at the New York Public Library on June 2, and the nominated designers for the top awards will be judged on both their Spring and Fall 2008 collections.

Somewhere exciting!

I am happy to share I will be attending Fashion Week Live in San Francisco. This is way cool because I get to see a runway show of selections from the New York Fall 2007 ready-to-wear collections by Oscar de la Renta, Zac Posen, Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, Badgley Mischka, Nanette Lepore and Michael Kors. Oh, and did I mention Naomi Campbell will be working it on the catwalk? Wahoo! Stay tuned to hear how it was tomorrow...
