Fab Finding Follow Up: Sad But True, A Funeral

Funerals are never planned, but we all end up attending one sooner or later. I always find choosing the appropriate thing to wear a difficult task - you have to balance subtle with chic, and even err on the conservative side.

Gossip Girl Fashion Quiz: "O Brother, Where Bart Thou?"

Just when you think the Upper East Siders have found happiness, it's pulled out from under them like a Persian rug at an estate sale. We knew it was going to be a turbulent ride, with Mr. Bass's death, but I didn't expect all that. Chuck in mourning - wow. The core group of characters were the focus, and while Blair's family is booming, any chance of Serena and Dan and Blair and Chuck is falling apart. We discover a dark secret of Lily's that Rufus cannot forgive - darn, I really wanted them to finally work out. A dark cloud is left looming in the air, let's discuss the clothes while it dissipates.

His funeral commenced on Thursday and his ashes will live in Morocco - YSL's favorite relaxation spot. In his honor we are giving away this Yves Saint Laurent Y-Mail Clutch ($395). We think the collector's edition is the perfect YSL piece; after all, the address and the handwriting were YSL's own.

Fab Field Trip: Yves Saint Laurent, San Francisco

While Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, and Catherine Deneuve paid their last respects to Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent by attending his funeral, Fab and PartySugar got dressed up in YSL-inspired outfits and visited the boutique on Maiden Lane in San Francisco. Our intention wasn't to shop (we swear!) but rather to be as close to Yves as humanly possible through the brand's groundbreaking, fabulous-beyond-words goods. I was inspired by Stefano Pilati's Spring '08 collection, and of course couldn't resist throwing on my Yves Saint Laurent Mini Star Bracelet as a finishing touch. Alas, we did walk out with bags - trois to be exact - but who can resist YSL anything (especially on sale)? Want to see what went down? Take a Fab field trip with us. Oh! Fab Read: The Black Dress

We all know that black dresses are hardly just reserved for funerals anymore - they're wardrobe staples! In The Black Dress ($15), Dr. Valerie Steele, Director and Chief Curator of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (my alma mater!), explores the zeitgeist of the black dress and how they've become timelessly chic.

The tome is filled with pages of iconic black dress images pulled from Chanel's collection, Audrey Hepburn's films, and more, plus quotes on the color black from writers, artists, and fashion personalities. Definitely one to check out - especially if you love your LBDs as much as I do.

LA Fashion Week, Spring 2008: TART

Given the warm LA climate, it's not surprising TART stuck to what they do best: easy, breezy, micro-modal dresses. There were oodles of flowy dresses, long and short. Prints, like exploding dots and feathers, were introduced and much appreciated.

I took note of bandeau-style bikini tops paired with high-waisted genie pants, racerback mini dresses, turtleneck frocks, and details like Grecian ruching and braiding. Most dresses came with deep V-neck bodices, halters or one-shoulders. Think Jerry Hall with a modern twist.

Though the body-hugging material used in TART clothing is not forgiving, this collection is ideal for a girl who spends much time in the sea and surf because it's light and airy.

What was the main inspiration for the collection?
Rebecca: It was a 70s poolside party in Palm Springs. Kind of a Jerry Hall feel. Lots of colors, lots of prints.

What was the type of girl you had in mind when designing this collection?
Rebecca: I think TART's always sexy and glamorous. The fabric is so wearable and the silhouettes are so chic so I think everyone can wear it. But I definitely designed for someone who's sophisticated, glamorous and sexy.

Did you face any hardships?
RR: It was pretty smooth sailing. We have a really good team.

What was the most fun part of the process?
RR: Well, runway is always fun but it's also fun to see the prints come back.

If we were to peek inside your closet, what would we see?
RR: You would see a lot of vintage, a lot of denim. It's very eclectic. Yves Saint Laurent shoes. I like vintage shoes. More heels than flats. I'm kind of in the Donatella Versace school of thought where women should wear heels.

What's one staple every woman should have?
RR: A black dress. You can wear it with sweats, with heels, during the day, you can wear it to an interview, on a date, at a funeral, to a wedding. You can rock it any time.

If you could describe your collection in three words, what would they be?
Jamie: Super friggin' hot! I'd say the difference between this collection and some of the prior ones is that we used to be known for our babydolls. Everything has more of a fitted element now because women want to show off where their torso starts and stops.

Fab Read: The Diana Chronicles

I can't believe it's been almost ten years since Princess Diana was tragically killed - the time just flew by! The Diana Chronicles, $17, by former New Yorker and Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown, follows the people's princess, all the way from Shy Di to Dynasty Di to Shunned Di.

While Diana was definitely much more than what she wore, fashion was a definitive part of her life. Who could forget that magical meringue wedding dress by Elizabeth and David Emanuel, her hand in popularizing big-shouldered skirt suits, or her appearance at Gianni Versace's funeral just months before her own?

Needless to say, Diana was an icon, whether it be fashion, humanitarian, or just as a woman to look up to, and this book pays quite the tribute.

How Would YOU Wear It? Ashley Olsen

Ya know, I appreciate Ashley's mature sense of style. But lately, she's taken her monochrome looks too far. Here, she's shopping in New York, but I'd like to know two things: 1) why she's so covered when it clearly looks sunny outside, and 2) why she's wearing all-black when she's not attending a funeral?

I understand that she wants to look sophisticated, and black is definitely a way to achieve that look, but why all black, all the time, Ashley? You're starting to lose outfit creativity in my eyes. You're a young woman and having a pop of color somewhere in your outfit will suit you well. I would have removed the opaque black tights and worn a bright red tank under her jacket. How would YOU wear it?
