Who Wore It Better? Fendi Fur Coat

Let's get ready to rumble . . . It's a battle between the two great Kates. Kate Bosworth wore Fendi's fur coat at the Fendi fashion show at the Great Wall of China back in October. Kate Moss got her hands on the same coat and wore it to the Led Zeppelin concert in London yesterday. Side note: I am so incredibly jealous she got to go, I love Led Zeppelin. Both ladies look avant-garde, but I'm leaning towards Kate B. because she looks more polished. Who do you think wore it better?

Kate Hudson's Winter White Fur: Love It or Hate It?

A stark white fur coat is quite a way to make a statement when it's nippy. Kate Hudson made a bold appearance in her furry outerwear at Dolce & Gabbana's Pre-Fall 2008 Collection event. I've always thought that Kate wears cold-weather clothing really well, but this is taking it to a highly sophisticated, and dramatic, level. I heart, do you?

Celebrity Style: Eugenia Silva

At the Supper Club New York launch party last night, Spanish-born model Eugenia Silva looked smashing and effortlessly high fashion. You may recognize her from Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera fragrance ads, Victoria's Secret catalogs, as well as from catwalks all over the world. But back to the matter at hand. Her fur jacket is exquisite to say the least, and I admire how she kept the rest of her outfit subdued. She's definitely one to keep on our fashion radar.

Fab Tip: Faux Fur, Snip Snip

Sienna Miller's Topshop faux fur coat looked amazing on her (as does Anja Rubik's, left), but it reminded me that faux fur coats often overpower. A while back I bought one, a faux rabbit, and now I know why I haven't given it much wear - it makes me feel gaudy. Thanks to the cold weather recently, it hit me: I couldn't just let that gorgeous brown faux fur sit there, alone. I took matters into my own hands - or rather, gave the matter to my tailor and let her work her magic.

Because fur makes such a statement, it can be overwhelming if it covers your entire upper body. At first I thought, I'll chop off the sleeves and make it a vest. Though that would look cool, it wouldn't keep me as warm. A friend suggested trimming the sleeves down to three-quarter length, just like Dree Hemingway's Adam Lippes For Mango Chubby ($129). It wasn't a huge alteration, and that's the beauty - just a small tweak like taking the sleeves up a few inches totally transformed the look from madness to modern.

What's more, I didn't have to pay a ludicrous dollar amount for it. The lesson is, when a coat, faux fur or not, feels outdated, think fast - chop the sleeves. It'll make a world of difference without costing the world.

Give Back the Fur

Buffalo Exchange is arguably one of the best used clothing stores around. With 32 locations in 11 states, its hip shops are a great place to buy, sell, and trade often good-as-new clothes. Now, the company is hosting a very cool program, called Coats for Critters, that lets you bring in any real fur or shearling apparel-maybe your mother's old mink stole or those rabbit-fur earmuffs you had as a kid-and donate it to the Humane Society's Coats for Cubs program.

The furs will be used as bedding and wraps to keep orphaned and injured wildlife warm. More than 200 wildlife rehabilitators in North America participate in the program. The Buffalo Exchange event runs through through Earth Day, April 22, 2007. I know a lot of FabSugar readers are anti-fur, but don't distress if there isn't a Buffalo Exchange store near you.
