Alicia Keys - From Songstress to Jewelry Maven

Alicia Keys can belt out a mean tune, and now she's about to show her talent in jewelry design. The singer, along with Gisèle Theriault, has launched a sterling silver and gemstone line called The Barber's Daughters. What makes it special is each piece is inscribed with author Masaru Emoto's poetry and prayers. The goal is "to give people beautiful, unique pieces with messages that ignite them to find the best within," Alicia said. Retail prices start at $85 and go up to $2,500 - peruse the extensive collection.

Moises de la Renta and Mango = Tasty

Update: The collection will be called MDLR Moises de la Renta for Mango and will consist of a mini-collection of cotton tees and tanks with tulle and gemstone trims.

Remember Adam Lippes's collection for Spanish retailer Mango? Looks like Mango may have nabbed another up-and-comer: Oscar de la Renta's son Moises. With a more severe lady-like aesthetic, the designer is supposed to attend the retailer's Spring runway show in Madrid on Wednesday, along with the brand's muse Scarlett Johansson. If all goes according to rumor, we may be seeing Scarlett in Moises's Mango offerings. Tasty, indeed.

Glitterati: Gold & Citrus

Highlighting local talent is always nice, so allow me to introduce Gold & Citrus, a new jewelry line based in San Francisco. Founders Sara and Rich are in this together: Sara is the jewelry designer, Rich is the website designer. The former creates made-to-order pieces out of everything from beads to gemstones, feathers to antique sequins. And the only machine she uses is her sewing machine. Cool.

The current collection is necklace-heavy, but also includes some funky body chains and a headpiece. The common theme is all the creations combine luxury and playfulness. My favorite is this Tangelo Necklace ($376). It's exotic, and looks like three necklaces in one.

Me&Ro, Stephen Dweck's Home Shopping Experience

Next to jump on the TV home shopping bandwagon are fine jewelry designers - with baubles retailing up to $5,000 - Robin Renzi from Me&Ro, and Stephen Dweck. Renzi has signed on with HSN to create an affordable collection of adornments, ranging from $30 to $100, called Robin by Me&Ro. The line debuts tomorrow, Tuesday Oct. 20, and will feature Renzi's signature tribal-inspired designs made from brass-plated silver and gold. “I’m excited to bring designs to a broader audience and I want people to hear it from me, what inspires me and why they inspire me,” said Renzi.

Stephen Dweck, known for featuring rare oversize rocks and gemstones in his namesake collection, has been enlisted by QVC to create a collection of diamond-clad jewelry called Dweck Diamonds. “It’s diamonds done in a new way,” said Dweck. “It’s a new way to wear my jewelry.” The line drops Oct. 27. Prices are to be determined.

Fab Flash: Christina Aguilera, Jewelry Muse

Christina Aguilera has experienced a lot of big changes in her life recently - new baby and now the role of designer muse.

Christina's friend, London jeweler Stephen Webster, is introducing a new sterling-silver collection inspired by the songbird. The Stephen Webster Silver Collection is full of silver rings, cuffs, pendants, and earrings inlaid with gemstones ($343-$3,528), made to look like broken stained glass, and will launch next month at Neimans.

Christina will also be featured in the collection's ad campaign, shot in LA, and set to look Hitchcockian. The first ad will break in the April issue of W, so keep a look out!

While working on her Ph.D. in neurobiology at Harvard, Jane Ko wasn't able to find student-budget jewelry. Instead of lamenting her unyielding search, she started her own line: Linea Nervenkitt.

Now she does Linea Nervenkitt full time, and pieces are sold in Anthropologie stores nationwide. She has a number of different collections: Rock Rings, which are hard-carved semi-precious gemstone cocktail rings, Linea Lux, her fine gold jewelry line, Seafoam, inspired by the Italian Riviera, and Sweet Languor, which combines semiprecious stones and gold chains.

Making jewelry may be no neurobiology, but there's nothing wrong with succeeding at both!
