Who Wore It Better? Giambattista Valli Yellow, Black and White Fab Frock

One of my newest favorite designers is proving to be a fave amongst the glitterati as well. This Giambattista Valli bold geometric strapless dress is just so awesome; I envy both of these ladies. While I prefer SJP with her hair down - her face is just so long - I prefer SJP's minimal look and swirly black shoes. Jessica looks a bit disheveled when she wore this to the designer's Fall show back in March - and tan lines are a no-no! You can't see her shoes but they were black platforms with a criss-cross toe. I'll take this dress any day, but who do you think wore it better?

Trend Alert: Geometry

As much as my mom will tell you I was a good student at math, I hated Geometry. I don't know what it was but I struggled with angular equations; I think it's a left-brain right-brain thing. I did enjoy Algebra though...Enough about my brain, point is: I'd rather wear Geometry than learn it! These striking prints have a decidedly 60s feel to them, but are plenty modern with updated styling. Give your wardrobe a smart boost with one of these perplexing prints.

Malin Akerman alluded to utmost ladylike style at the All Inclusive premiere in Germany today. I love how her slim, high-waisted pencil skirt provided maximum elongation - what a cool styling trick! To add a dose of color and brightness, the actress donned a purple geometric print top and blue suede platform pumps by Sergio Rossi. A little bit of polish, a lot of pizazz.

Alexander Wang Geometric Sweatpants: Love It or Hate It?

Hammer don't hurt 'em. OK, these Alexander Wang Geometric Sweatpants, ($395) aren't exactly like the ones MC Hammer wore back in the day, but they come in a close second. We know Wang's all about the '80s, but these pants take it to the next level. I don't know what I'm more baffled by: the old school print or the questionable silhouette. Do you love it or hate it?

Matthew Williamson For H&M Burns Through Foggy San Fran

Breathe in, breathe out. This was me last night when trying to fall asleep. You know when you're so excited for something insomnia ensues and obsession overpowers? You all know I've been anticipating Matthew Williamson's H&M collection since the news broke, but I didn't expect to turn groupie . . .
Rise and shine, join the line at the Powell Street H&M. The line was only about eight stylistas deep at this point. PartySugar, also a MW groupie, joined me around 7:30 a.m. - store opens at 10. But something had been brewing behind Fab's scenes, I just didn't want to jinx anything. And then, the fashion gods looked down upon me, and I got the email - I was granted early press access. Not to shop mind you, but to enter the store (this was about 9ish), survey the scene, try things on, take pics, and revel in MWHM. I already had my wish list, as did Party, so you can imagine our elation.

The West Coast district manager, Alexis, dished on how she thought this was the most commercially viable designer collection. Agreed. She was gaga over the leather jacket and the hot pink gold-studded belt. Interestingly, this SF store gets more stock of the designer goods than LA's Beverly Center store; who said SF didn't love to shop? We also chatted about Phase II - the Summer collection, hitting stores May 14. Alexis promised hot bikinis and a fresh geometric print overnight bag (stay tuned for pics!). I had to ask if Missoni for H&M is up next and she replied "no comment" which leads me to think it's true since the news broke just yesterday and she knew what I was talking about, sneaky Fab.

We were able to hang tight inside the store, out of the fog, but still not shop, until doors opened at 10 a.m. But our plans of attack were in place. And like that - mayhem. This was my first time really tolerating this. I missed the first collection, Karl Lagerfeld, slept through Stella McCartney, slacked on Viktor & Rolf, cried post Roberto Cavalli, and gave up on Commes de Garcons. But not Matthew. This was my H&M collection. And so, I raced though the racks plucking my new babies, calm as a clam.

The dramatic ruffled print maxi dress was the first to go. And in person, this one was amazing; the black sequined detailing was divine. The short version of this was a hot one, too. And as celebrities still work their PR magic, the sequined artsy dress worn by Ginnifer Goodwin and the peacock dress modeled by both Nicky Hilton and Katy Perry were gone in no time. None of these screamed Fab. I added the glam rockin' blue blazer, the yellow embroidered top, the pink feathered cardigan, the butterfly tee, and the hot pink studded belt to my arsenal.

2009 Fall Paris Fashion Week: Dries Van Noten

Dries continues to deliver just the right thing at just the right time. While others are delivering dark, moody collections, or '80s overload, Dries welcomed a saturated sportswear inspired by the paintings of Francis Bacon. The designer noted, "Bacon’s subjects are disturbing, but so, also, his use of color is disturbing.” The result is muted tones against vivid chartreuse, pumpkin, periwinkle, and saffron. As for cuts, a cool, loose silhouette is paired with sharp suiting, jackets, and structured leather. The outerwear is what really stands out; this navy zip up jacket (shown right) is a classic cutie, belted coats are strong contenders, and a gray sequined blazer took my breathe away.

No Dries collection wraps without a nuanced print. For Fall, the designer photographed random cocktail fabrics from past decades and fused the black-and-white photos with the silky fabrics. The results was a blocked, geometric motif so fitting to the house, so unique.

LA Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Lauren Conrad

I'm sure it was a raging afterparty because it looks like our Hills heroine put on a successful Lauren Conrad Collection runway show last night. Her Spring lineup was inspired by the beauty of Spring. OK, that's sort of ambiguous - allow me to elaborate. With her usual flirty silhouettes, Lauren upped the fabrics, detailing and prints for Spring. She showed an array of solid jersey dresses, both cocktail and maxi, but there was plenty beside those usual suspects. I quite fancy the artsy floral and beige-and-white chiffon polka-dot prints. One thing about Lauren is she manages to deliver pieces that are both sexy and girlie. Sexy: The white ruched formfitting dress. Girlie: The ladylike separates.

Accessories were also highlighted adding some Spring flair. I've never been a fan of rosettes - worn here as headbands - but I am a fan of geometric bangles. Lauren came out to warm round of applause in the end, the only way from here is up.

Milan Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Gucci

Not that she ever lost it, but Frida got her groove back. It's taken the designer a few seasons to really make a splash at the house of Gucci, and splashy this Spring collection is. With attendees like Rihanna and Rachel Zoe, I'm sure the aquarium colors and provocative shapes impressed. At Gucci there's always a lot of skin, but the clothes, many in vivid tropical and geometric prints, were spectacular spectacular.Utilitarian pants met loose blouses. Asymmetrical cuts supplied sex appeal. Colorful suiting contrasted sheer blouses. Many designers are playing with pants for Spring, but Gucci's dresses may keep the all-in-one look afloat. The leafy prints are Fab, in both a purple and camel and a turquoise and lagoon blue combo. A safari-infused anorak was even given the Frida treatment: fun, sexy, and party-ready.
