Designer Spotlight: Susan Woo

The designer received her BS in fashion design and business, then put her degree to practice at Louis Vuitton, Derek Lam, and Chanel. Not bad. Because Woo has major love for fashion and the environment, her entire Fall collection is made from 100 percent all-natural and sustainable fabrics - organic wool, cottons, and cashmeres. Yet another example of eco being chic. Both day and evening options range from $345 to $1,250 and are currently available at H Lorenzo and Kaight in NYC.

Earth Day is not over yet. . . . As you know, I have been following the green scene for some time and have opinions about who the best eco-friendly designers are. Of course, SF-loving Stella McCartney tops my list, as does the Loomstate for Target collection. Both deliver goods that are earth-friendly and super stylin'. Beau Soleil's Organic One-Shoulder Dress we're giving away is pretty hot, too. There are oodles of other eco-conscious brands that serve up stylish gear that are good to the environment. Check out my top 10.

On Our Radar: Tobi Loves Ugly Boxes

One of my favorite online retailers, Tobi, is making a loud and proud declaration: It loves an ugly box! In order to stop adding more waste into the environment, it has decided to start reusing all the boxes it receives on a daily basis. A brand new box may look prettier, but Tobi believes it's what's inside that counts. So next time you order something from the retailer, the box you get may be ugly, but what's inside is going to be anything but.

The Heritage collection, ranging from $39 to $150, is made out of organic cotton, soy silk, and bamboo. The gorgeous, eco-friendly line debuts this Summer. On another note, the company has also started using more recycled materials and changing treatment processes so its laundry facilities can comply with the Business for Social Responsibility's clean water guidelines. Awesome - go Banana!

Fab Flash: Ferragamo Goes Green

In an effort to preserve the Earth, the luxury brand has created a line of eco-friendly handbags named Eco Ferragamo. What makes this collection special is that the bags are made from a nontoxic tanning technique, are lined in handwoven hemp, and use dyes from natural elements such as tree bark. The results, seen below, are luxurious, biodegradable, and water-resistant bags. The Eco Ferragamo collection ranges from small totes to maxi hobos made in hues of tobacco brown, lemon yellow, and grapefruit pink. The bags retail from $1,190 to $1,890 and will be available come February.

Fab Blab: Kate Bosworth Wears Recycled (Phillip Lim) Zippers

You know, you hear about celebrities being environmental activists, but to see it seals the deal.

We love Kate Bosworth; she's so cute and her style is ever evolving. We were super excited when we found out she was going to co-host this year's Gorgeous and Green benefit in San Francisco.

This is the benefit's fourth year in the making, and past hosts and supporters include Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, and Salma Hayek. Proceeds went to Global Green USA, an organization committed to various green initiatives like rebuilding New Orleans and promoting access to clean water as a global human right. Not only did PartySugar find a really yummy organic cabernet, I talked to Bosworth about her super cool Phillip Lim dress, which turned out to be, you guessed it, green.

After greeting Bosworth, she complimented us - "You guys look lovely." She had us at lovely. I knew her dramatic zippered LBD was from Phillip Lim's Spring collection, but there was more than meets the eye:

So this dress is Phillip Lim?

"It’s his green line. This dress is in his regular [Spring] line but he made this for me for this event. I told him I really liked this dress, but I know he has a green line, so I asked if it was possible to make it green and he said absolutely. This is some hemp, some organic silk, recycled zippers, and it’s been hand-dyed in natural dyes. What’s so great about it is a lot of people think green clothing can be boring or granola-ish. The reason I loved it is it shows how you can make an interesting design 100 percent green."

To see more of Bosworth at the event and images from the green runway show, read more.

You thought you'd seen them all: Reusable shopping bags that practically every retailer sells now - but you have another option. its-laS-tik reusable bags ($14) are green, stylish, and bouncy.

Bouncy?

Unlike other canvas or cotton bags that don't stretch, its-laS-tik uses flexible fabrics that take the shape of its contents and move with you as you walk. You can double the load per bag but never feel the extra heaviness. Cool, right? What's cooler is the bags are manufactured by Hurricane Katrina survivors in New Orleans. For about $14 per 12" by 13" bag, you can take the stress off your shoulders and help those less fortunate make a living.
