Harvey Weinstein Next to Exit Halston – What Will Happen to Marios Schwab?

Harvey Weinstein is next to leave Halston, following on the heels of Sarah Jessica Parker who announced her departure Wednesday. Weinstein had an equity stake in the brand for many years, serving as a figurehead while it hasn't been able to regain its fashion status since its jumpsuit-fueled, disco '70s heyday. Adding fuel to the fire is speculation on Halston's creative designer, Marios Schwab, and where he stands in the middle of all the recent changes. According to WWD, Schwab's contract might not be renewed unless he relocates from London to New York, where Halston is based. More news on what's to happen with Halston is slated to be released in the next 10 days.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Halston Part Ways

After joining Halston in January 2010 as the president and chief creative officer of Halston Heritage, Sarah Jessica Parker has reportedly parted ways with the brand. According to WWD, the two are currently working on terminating the agreement. Details are still under wraps, but Halston is said to be cash poor and could be sold again. Marios Schwab's third collection for Halston was a direct reference to the '70s. "The Halston girl is a temptress," said Schwab, who referenced Lauren Hutton's character in American Gigolo as his inspiration. The presentation, which took place last night at Cedar Lake, had models set up on pedestals wearing an array of gowns and dresses fitting for a glamorous party at Studio 54. Fluid Grecian-inspired chiffon gowns, pleated and draped cocktail dresses, and even sequined glow-in-the-dark creations - the lights dimmed down every 10 minutes to show off the display - were all present and dipped in warm and cool neutral hues. However, it was Schwab's daywear selection that really stood out amongst the crowd, most notably, a knotted shirtdress made in supple brown leather. Schwab has to head back to London to present his namesake collection, but not before indulging in a "a couple of cocktails" to celebrate the Halston collection. And what exactly will he be drinking to toast the night? "I like the mixed berry kind," said Schwab.

On her reaction to being offered the position of president and chief creative officer at Halston and Halston Heritage: "I kept saying, 'You understand, by offering this you are going to be criticized?' It took me a long time to say yes." On taking her role at Halston very seriously: "I said, 'Please know this now: I will never do this for a title. I will never dip in and out of this. I'll do it like everything else I've ever done. I'll be involved down to the splitting of the atom.'" On her design skills: "I might not have the language; I can't always tell you the exact blend of a fabric, but I figure it out." Sarah Jessica Parker was on hand for the unveiling of Halston’s Spring 2011 collection last night (and modeling it head-to-toe) and while we loved her red-hot look, it was her necklace we couldn’t take our eyes off of! Parker complemented her jersey dress with a white jade necklace with precious and vintage-painted wood beads from Lori Goldstein for Fred Leighton. The necklace is part of a 25-piece collection that the super-stylist designed for Fred Leighton. The collaboration, which debuted on Fashion’s Night Out, features one-of-a-kind bead necklaces comprised of faceted diamonds, Tahitian pearls, vintage glass, sapphires, hand-painted Czechoslovak wooden beads and a Victorian crystal heart. The line ranges from $3,500 to $25,000 and is the fine jeweler’s first-ever collaboration.
