New York Fashion Week Trend Alert: High & Waisted

Many have been on the fence about this trend, but if you haven't embraced it yet, Fab friends, it is time to get High & Waisted. I am a fan of the high waist - it can really accentuate a woman's figure - but I don't like overly dramatic high waists. A more conservative version for me please. Come Spring, there's high waists galore so hopefully you'll find your niche. To prepare yourself, check out some bright high waists at Phillip Lim, some quirky ones at Alice + Olivia and some sporty ones a la Cynthia Rowley.

Trend Alert: High-Waisted Denim Skirts

Inquiring fashionista minds want to know where to get stylish and flattering high-waisted denim skirts like the one Isabell wore in her California cool Look of the Day. High-waisted denim skirts are great for Summer because they: a) reflect the high-waisted trend, and b) they keep your legs cool in the sun. They go great with just about every shoe, especially gladiators, semi-flat sandals and sky-high Mary Janes. Come Fall, you can even wear them with some textured tights. So all together now, let's get high...waisted, that is!

Looks like Nicole has been hanging out with Mischa lately because she's adopted Mischa's new signature style: high-waisted. I am in love with this entire outfit; everything from her vintage Yves Saint Laurent shades down to her nude Loubs. And though I normally prefer Nicole's hair in a bob, the extensions and dark roots reinforce her badass-yet-girly look.

The 70s are back! What with wide legged jeans in full force and now high-waisted jeans, it is clear the skinny and low rise have competition. I am elated - you all know by now I have a thing for the carefree styles of the dazed & confused decade. While the high waist was around long before the 70s, try the 50s, it was given sex appeal in the decade of disco. I prefer this look worn with a wide leg, it just complements any body way better. Either way, if you've got the feelin' go for it!

Mischa Barton sure does love clothes! I appreciate how she takes risks and seems to always be one step ahead of the fashion curve, and this outfit is no different. Look of The Day: The High Waist via Skirt

I know there are mixed feelings about the high waist trend. I have a feeling about 50% of you will love it, and about 50% will hate it. As for those who are on the fence, here is an example of the high waist via skirt. Eugiebird wears it with the help of a thick corset belt, which is definitely a sexy way to go.

Blue London High Waisted Jeans: Love It or Hate It?

I've got some news that may disappoint many: high-waisted jeans are on the rise. I just read something in Women's Wear Daily about it and I'm starting to see them out and about. This may be a jean epidemic for some, and a jean salvation for others. What do you all think about these Blue London High Waisted Jeans, found by jgasia in the Love it or Hate it? group. Kate Moss Does Topshop

There's no question that Kate Moss is a fashion trendsetter, but now she's trying her hand at being a fashion designer. In an article in today's Women's Wear Daily confirms the rumor that Kate just inked a deal to design a line of clothing for super-fabulous British retail chain Topshop. (Seriously, if you haven't been to Topshop, you should make a pilgrimage to the retailer's London flagship store ASAP. It is like H&M, but better.) Here are the details from WWD:

The collection, Kate Moss for Topshop, will debut at the company's 308 stores and on its Web site in spring 2007. "We want to build this into a global brand," Sir Philip Green, owner of Topshop's parent, Arcadia Group plc, told WWD in an interview. "She is a fashion icon in terms of the U.K., probably the best-known model, and is what Topshop is all about in terms of fashion. Our customers identify with her."

Green is undoubtedly right: Moss almost single handedly launched the skinny jeans trend (like, over a year ago), and at Topshop's runway show at London Fashion week, she was spotted in these high-waisted jeans that just might be the next big thing.

While Miranda Kerr took her high-waisted black shorts on a tropical vacation, Lauren Conrad wore hers out on the town with an Alexander Wang top. It goes to show how versatile high-waisted black shorts are. They can weather extreme heat and go party hopping with you, too!

As exemplified by both Miranda and Lauren, you should tuck your top into your shorts, to show off the high waist. Just make sure your top is not too frilly or loud; the high-waist style is already a tad trendy on its own.
