Would You Wear a Nonwhite Wedding Dress?

I ask because Henry Holland of House of Holland designed this hot pink lace wedding dress ($1,200) for the bride who seeks a bold color on her big day. A lavender version, albeit sans slip, was worn by Dree Hemingway on House of Holland's Spring '10 catwalk. It's no doubt a pretty dress - one-shoulder, sheer, lace, pink - but definitely doesn't scream wedding. Would you wear it, or any other nonwhite dress, on your big day?

From the runways onto department and drugstore shelves, I'm sure we'll see lots of fresh new makeup options and application techniques go full circle come March. Last month in New York, we saw six very wearable trends emerge, from peach lips to bold eyeliner to heavy-handed under-the-eye liners. But throughout the course of New York Fashion Week and other Spring 2010 shows, including Paris, London, and Milan, there were other looks that won't quite make the transition. Take this sequin forehead heart-shaped applique, for instance - straight from the Ungaro show in Paris, for which Lindsay Lohan acted as artistic adviser. While I appreciate each and every designer's artistic flair, some looks just won't translate to real life. See what I mean now.

New York Fashion Week ignites some trends, but it's in London where the envelope is pushed beyond the limit. Take, for example, Giles Deacon's Pac-Women. London Fashion Week is nearing completion, but there was enough quirk to last a lifetime, or at least until next season. While overexposure started in New York, the king of quirk, Henry Holland, took the concept to a whole new, playful level. Proceed with caution.

Fall Glimpse: Mad Plaider

Log cabins. Maple syrup. Grunge. My 21st birthday D&G dress. These are all a few of my favorite plaid things. While you probably already have a plaid item in your closet, or your boyfriend's closet, plaid has gone a bit mad for Fall. Consider an Edwardian jacket and pants a la McQueen, a tucked and pleated dress at Thakoon, mismatched and buttoned up at D&G. But my favorite is the slightly punky, paired with gray tights anime-looking Luella girl (left). She may look a bit mad, but whether it's tartan, glen, or buffalo, it's the shape of plaids to come.

Talk about having roommates in high places. Henry Holland, designer of House of Holland, and model Agyness Deyn, once shared a living space. Like most house mates, the duo had their share of quarrels. "Aggy (Deyn) and I used to fight over each issue of Vogue [UK] when we lived together. We used to daydream about when she made it in to the magazine. And now she is!" It's no wonder the bleach-blonde model supports Henry and his funky designs. Fashion best friends forever!

Remember when these House of Holland Groupie Tees, $75, were the buzz of all the fashion circles? Given the neon colors and witty phrases like "Get Yer Freak On Giles Deacon," it's easy to see why! They're definitely punky, funky and great conversation starters. But why so pricey?

If you're h-o-t-t and you know it, get this Forever 21 Hot Tee, $14. Although the phrase isn't the same as the tees from House of Holland, the motif is spot-on: oversized tee, big, bold letters, bright colors...you get the picture. Buyer beware: do not wear this tee if you don't want to be noticed!

Coveted Crib: A House of Worship in Holland

Lexmond, Holland-based Ruud Visser Architects renovated a 1930 wooden church on a river in Rotterdam for a young family, and it's one of the most outstanding homes I've seen. The structure hadn't been in service since the '60s and had been used as a storage space, so it was transformed into a contemporary home. At almost 10,000 square feet, the building could have been divided to house six small families or divided into a bunch of smaller rooms, but instead the architects created wide open spaces underneath the beautiful wooden ceilings to keep that sacred feeling intact. A new glass façade at the rear of the house was built, opening it up to the river and the landscape behind it. The scale of the spaces and the combination of materials, including glass, steel, and wood, is absolutely stunning.
