Taylor Swift Wins in White, Twice!

Taylor Swift kept busy this weekend with a styled showing at not one, but two awards shows. She started off in a sweet, cream Maria Lucia Hohan frock at the Kids' Choice Awards, where she took home the "Big Help" blimp, presented by Michelle Obama, for her anti-bullying advocacy work and aid to tornado victims. She then jetted off to Vegas for the Academy of Country Music Awards, where she took home entertainer of the year for the second time. Taylor went sleek and sexy in J. J. Mendel showed an elegant Fall 2012 collection, where the beauty was all in the details. Designer Gilles Mendel cited a memory of his mother's Courrèges boucle suit: "the first time she opened it, I was about age 14, and seeing the flash of the metallic lining shining from under the black, it was stunning and surprising, even then. That peek-a-boo effect . . . [is] alive in this collection." That translated into dresses with crescent cutouts, peplum tops, crocodile trim on fur jackets, and chiffon evening gowns embellished with embroidery. Mendel lined a black jacket in metallic gold, and combined multiple furs for a degrade effect on his outerwear. The collection was completely, utterly luxurious, and we look forward to seeing the gowns on the red carpet, while we expect to see the furs on front-row attendees Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.

For the Glee 3D Concert movie premiere, Jayma wore an ethereal, ivory J. Mendel dress that would be pretty enough for a beach wedding, but toughened it up with strappy black platform heels. At a Fox All-Star party, Jayma chose a fitted, short-sleeve Pamella Roland sheath dress that would have been perfect for a weekend brunch if paired with nude flats. Instead, she made it party ready with Brian Atwood Maniac calf-hair pumps ($735) in shocking hot pink. We love her style choices here; will you give them a try?

Trend Alert: Ombre

Ombre is beginning to rear its pretty head and while it feels very warm-weathery, I'm already seeking a new ombre addition. I'm still on the fence though - some of these items are dope, while some of them are dull. Here's the dilemma: It's a trendy motif, but only looks good on fine fabrics. Case in point: ombred fur at J. Mendel's Spring '08 show (pictured). Thus, one should seek out an ombre that looks expensive but doesn't break the bank. Ah, the trials and tribulations of fashion . . .
