Jonathan Antin Gets Ionic on Us!

I recently found out that Jonathan Antin, founder and creator of Jonathan Product, and the star of the TV reality show Blow-Out, is releasing a new hair care line called Ionic Balance.

The idea is to help treat those with damaged, super dry and over-processed hair. The key ingredients are tourmaline and amethyst which are believed to help fight frizz, increase circulation to the scalp and roots of the hair and add shine. The line is comprised of a four step process which begins with an: IB Purifier Anti-Aging Restorative Shampoo, $24, Conditioner, $28, an IB Shield Humidity Lock-Out Shine Spray, $32 and an IB Revitalizer Overnight Oil Treatment Spray, $44.

Everything is extremely light and all the products are vegan and sulfate free. The first product to be launched will be the Shield (later this month) and everything else will be released in his salon and online in August.

A Drugstore Version of Dirt

I've already waxed poetic about the magical, sweet-smelling hair styling paste that is Dirt by Jonathan Product. As Jonathan (from the reality show Blowout) explains on the label: “There’s something amazing about the way hair looks and behaves the day after - washing, that is." Seeing as how I'm obsessed with Dirt, I couldn't help but notice a suspiciously similar product while browsing the aisles the other day at Walgreens. Called FX Special Effects Texture Dirt Texturizing Paste, this styling paste proclaims: "Texture Dirt has been created to easily give you the amazing way your hair looks and behaves the day after washing."

Sound familiar? Since the FX brand has obviously been paying attention to Dirt's copy-writing, I bought a jar to see if it had replicated the styling effect, too. Plus, the Texture Dirt, available here costs just $5.99, versus $26 for the Jonathan product. However, after trying the FX brand, I think I'm going to stay loyal to Jonathan. The drugstore stuff wasn't terrible for a budget buy, but it had a more glue-like texture that made it hard to disperse though my hair. Although it gave my hair similar piece-y results, it didn't leave my locks looking or feeling nearly as smooth and silky as the Dirt by Jonathan does. I guess you get what you pay for.

Fab Face: Hanne Gaby Odiele

She may not have the most stunning face in fashion, but Hanne Gaby Odiele certainly has one of the most unforgettable. Her delicate, perfectly square face has been popping up all over magazines, advertisements, and runways recently, and I've taken note. The 19-year-old has even nabbed the job of modeling the Jonathan Saunders for Target collection and Rachel Bilson's Edie Rose for DKNY ad. What sets her apart is her childlike innocence, which is so refreshing in a world where young girls try to look old.

It's not obvious from this Vogue Italia editorial, but the Belgian model has blond, often disheveled hair and crystal blue eyes. Her chiseled cheekbones, pouty lips, and subtle cleft in her chin also give her an edge over her competition. Study every inch of Hanne because you will be seeing lots more of her.

Fabcon: Daphne Guinness

Someone should make a movie about Daphne. Not only does she wear couture like I wear cropped jeans she has a colorful past. She is an heiress. Does her last name ring a bell? Daphne is the daughter of Guinness brewery heir Jonathan Guinness. She married Spyros Niarchos (also a familiar last name) at 19 and divorced with a settlement of $40 million dollars. Put the two and two together, and that's how she can afford couture.

But she is also serious fashion folk. She is friends with designer greats like Karl Lagerfeld (fun fact: she turned him on to Grand Theft Auto), Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney, as well as photog Mario Testino and Naomi Campbell. While I have been stalking her for a while now, she was recently out and about at couture week last week promoting her short film "The Phenomenology of Body."

She flitters about fashion circles but also writes, has three children and designs her own heraldic jewelry line - check out her armor-like jewelry in these photos, it's really cool. Her style is intense; she is an upscale British eccentric. She favors corsets, mini skirts, mile-high platforms, feathers, headpieces, and you can't miss her platinum, skunk-striped hair.

She made a movie, which she comments, ''Really, the piece is a revolving passage, a voyage of the female form canceling or revealing.'' Sounds interesting, but Daphne Guinness, The Movie, sounds more interesting.
