Yesterday at Cannes was marked by the La Coqueta and Melancholia film premieres, though we were mostly consumed with more of the festival's standout style. We spotted supermodels Laetitia Casta and Alessandra Ambrosio hitting the red carpet, fashionable mom and daughter duo Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Carine Roitfeld stepping out for Roberto Cavalli's dinner party, and Milla Jovovich making a standout arrival in Prada - in short, another amazing day in Cannes style. Last night, Madewell celebrated the opening of its new storefront on Fifth Avenue in NYC. The store itself looked amazing - think light and airy – and so were the fashionable party goers. Madewell designer and cool cutie Alexa Chung attended the event wearing pieces from her upcoming collection for the brand, while Julia Restoin-Roitfeld made a debut in sexy all black. Styling Tips: Julia Restoin-Roitfeld's All-Black Ensembles

You know the best solution when you have nothing to wear? You go for all black. While we doubt Julia has nothing to wear in her closet, she offered up two chic all-black ensembles in just two days for appearances at the Tribeca Film Festival. Here are the lessons we've gleaned from the French fashion maven:

Wear Sky-High Shoes: She wore the same platform peep-toe heels, for good reason. They're super sexy.

Add Something Unexpected: Because you're sticking to one color, feel free to play with surprising mixes of styles. Julia paired a leather miniskirt with a fringed kimono cape, and the night before, a wrap sweater with a lingerie-inspired skirt. All genius.

Add a Neutral Bag: We love her choice of contrasting bags; it keeps things exciting.

Do Keep the Lip Soft: She's known to rock a red lip, but here she keeps the siren color to her nails, and goes for a soft-hued lip so that the entire look doesn't skew vamp.

Chanel hosted a dinner party that drew an eclectic crowd last night as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. Chloe Sevigny, Rose Byrne, and Naomi Watts were among the big-screen stars who attended the event at the Odeon restaurant in NYC, while Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Zoe Kravitz, and Lauren Hutton were among the models. From the art world, both Jeff Koons and Julian Schnabel were on hand. The French fashion house dressed several of its guests, including Naomi, who brought her mother as her date for the evening out. Chanel has had a major presence at this year's festival, with Karl Lagerfeld premiering a series of Magnum ice cream ads starring one of his many muses, Rachel Bilson, last week. We spoke with the actress on the red carpet at the big debut. The trendsetter chatted with us about her upcoming TV series, Hart of Dixie, and also admitted to "geeking out" after Karl gifted her with one of his Chanel notepads during their short-film shoot.

Unlike a mini or maybe a plunging neckline, there are a few ways of revealing some skin that never feel, well, too revealing. At the top of our list currently are shoulder-baring frocks, just the way fashion pack Alexa Chung, Michelle Monaghan, Abbie Cornish, and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld are showing them off. They're sexy, but not overt, leaving an exposed neckline to adorn with a fabulous statement necklace or dangling earrings. We love the feel of a looser, floral-print off-the-shoulder for a fresh '70s vibe by day, then slip into a body-con version and channel a sultrier side of the '80s by night.

Before the Fashion Week crowds descended on Lincoln Center this morning, fashion insiders gathered at amfAR's gala to give NYFW a proper welcome. Among the styled crew were Carine Roitfeld in a lacy Givenchy Couture with daughter Julia Restoin-Roitfeld opting for a leg-revealing kimono-style Louis Vuitton. Helena Christensen showed off her supermodel stems in a shorts and blazer combo, Elisa Sednaoui shimmered in Louis Vuitton, and Blake Lively glowed in an Alexander McQueen printed strapless gown. Clearly, the gathering at Cipriani Wall Street wasn't lacking in style, but the most Fab attendee is still up for debate. Who gets your vote?
