I Love Your ShopStyle: For the Love of Layering

I love to layer, you love to layer. Still, that's not to say that the art of layering comes easy for everyone. It sure looks like it comes easy for NaifMeggie. She created her ensemble for the love of layering. I would wear that outfit in a heartbeat. It's cozy without compromising an inch of style. My favorite part is the mellow color scheme.

Look of the Day: Playing With Proportions

GemV purchased a new feather belt, but what I'm particularly drawn to is her playing with proportions. Notice that her leather jacket is cropped, while her gray sweater is hip-length, and her yellow cardigan is slightly longer. Way to pull it off effortlessly.

Look of the Day: Bathed in Beige

When being bathed in beige, it's nice to throw in other colors to break up the look. Fab reader rmur is ahead of the game. She paired her beige dress and jacket with a gray scarf, a black belt, and black tights. Thus, she took the look from flat to flat-out cool.

This Week's Fab Favorite: Emma Watson

She's 10 years younger than me and she is sitting front row at Chanel. But it's OK, I am a Harry Potter fan and she looks Fab. Chanel is a fashion house for every generation and it's nice to see the younger generation wearing it accordingly. She opted for long leggings - this is how you wear them people - some stunning platform sandals, and a sporty but chic silver skirt and jacket set; all Chanel. Her satin Chanel clutch is mighty adorable, too. Her hair is slick and her jewelry is pared down; I spy a glittering ring atop the yummy clutch.

My favorite piece amongst this excellent example of layering is the jacket. I would wear that with just about everything to inject sporty nonchalance. Her bunched up sleeves makes it even more lax. So Emma, pray tell, how did you enjoy the show?

Look of the Day: Granny Chic

I don't know if bento barista actually raided her grandmother's closet for the contents of her ensemble, but she looks very granny chic. I love her impeccable layering job, and way to tie it all together with a cool two-tone scarf.

Celebrity Style: Charlize Theron

I've been looking for good examples of transitional outfits, and leave it to Charlize to give us one. If you still want to show off your tan gams come Fall, layers are the answer. This look manages to be both cozy and collected. Sometimes the idea of throwing things on and cinching it all together with smart accessories just works. Charlize's choice of earthy hues does no wrong, either.

Fab Body Guide: Making Short Look Tall

I was looking at the most recent Rachel Bilson pictures when something occurred to me: Were she taller, her disheveled, London-inspired outfit would have been flawless. But since Rachel can't make herself grow, there has to be a way to rock this outfit and make it look more flattering.

Before I offer up some obvious and not-so-obvious solutions for shorter gals who want to mimic her outfit, let's dissect what's wrong with her look. Rachel's not quite 5'4", so an overly-layered ensemble makes her look frumpy and stout. The tiered dress is too long for her petite frame, as is her leather jacket. The Jovovich-Hawk for Target frock is A-line, so it makes the actress look like she has wide hips. To top it all off, she's wearing flats.

A shorter version of the dress or jacket would have given the illusion that she's taller.
A narrower dress bottom would have made her look less wide.
Assuming her dress and jacket don't come in shorter versions, all Rachel needed to do was throw on a pair of high heels or wedges to make the outfit more flattering.

Squint your eyes and imagine Rachel's look with lace-up heels. Much more flattering, right? "But what if wearing heels to the supermarket isn't my idea of fun, Fab?" you may ask.

If that's the case, shorter girls who want to wear flats should don shorter hemlines and cropped jackets.
Don't overlayer unless it's cold outside! The more you layer, the frumpier you look.
