Miu Miu Pleated Leather Satchel: Love It or Hate It?

Miu Miu has a slew of new handbags for Fall and this Miu Miu Pleated Leather Satchel, $1,590, is one of them. I am undecided about whether or not I dig the pleats-on-a-purse look. It can look very stiff, unlike pleats on clothing. And those sharp corners are a tad severe. Without them, the bag would be much prettier. What are your thoughts?

The Marc by Marc Jacobs collection was all about the schoolgirl gone grunge. Loose trapeze-like dresses and combat boots melded with pleated skirts and pretty bouclé coats resulting in a mashup of feminine cool tinged with military touches. The main focus were full-skirted dresses made in floral prints, metallic finishes, plaid, velvet, and sheer mesh. Outerwear featured a standout fur collared anorak and plenty of ladylike coats. We were especially smitten with the polished textural coats, nipped in at the waist with leather belts. Rebecca's girl is both an homage to '90s grunge and a fresh-faced street-styler. The Fall collection marries the designer's signature sweet side with darker territory, at least where texture and color are concerned. Rebecca's palette is decidedly moody in deep brown, burgundy, and black on leather, herringbone, wool, and velvet layers. Then she counters with cool-girl silhouettes; layers are in perfect proportion - for every slick leather layer, there's also a sheer-chiffon sleeve, slinky sequins, or abstract print. There's a lightness to counter the severity of her colors; she still homes in on that girlie factor we love in a pretty peplum top, a sexier snake-print halter dress, or ultra-femme sheer pleats. Like front-rower Olivia Palermo, this girl is something of a mix-master who's got as much femininity as she does cool-girl edge.

Trends: Rich texture in leather, velvet, and jacquard; sequins, peplum, heavy layers, and exotic print.
Colors: Brown, gray, and black with just a pop of purple and blue.
Key Piece: We love the open sheer-chiffon pleats on the gorgeous full-length print dress; also the cool factor of a leopard coat done in ombre.

2011 Fall New York Fashion Week: Tory Burch

Tory Burch seems to be getting edgier and edgier with each new season. Heck, even Kanye West was spotted sitting right alongside Tory herself at the Lincoln Center. "It's English countryside meets American sportswear," said Burch of the collection. Tory's spin on the widespread '70s trend was more refined, via suits - a red velvet smoking inspired by her mother's old Yves Saint Laurent suit was amazing - dresses, and pretty bow blouses. The designer also experimented with chunky tweeds, plaint prints, and heavy embellishments adding a textural component to her collection. And love it or not, palazzo pants are back: low-slung pleated and printed versions were paired with silk tops for an effortless bohemian vibe. Cropped knit and leather jackets, furry oversized shearling vests, and cropped tweed coats were also notable pieces.
