London Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Marc by Marc Jacobs

One of my faves, Marc Jacobs, debuted his Marc collection in London this time around and it was a sweet finale to London Fashion Week. Why London? Possibly to celebrate the opening of his first London store? I think so.

With models resembling urban ice-skating princesses, this collection got my Spring-anticipating self back in Winter mode. Some Fall trends showed up: plaid, fur, velvet and grey, while Marc added his own youthful flair with pom pom berets and cozy layering. Warm woolies and Nordic prints are sure to be bestsellers as well as adorable, yet grown up, coats. The color palette managed to be both warm and cool; textures were mostly heavy but an ivory silk lightened the mood. I don't think the cropped high waisted pants (especially with suspenders) will go over as well as say, the flirty pleated wool skirts or hands free bags. Although Selma Blair looked pleased, sporting a platinum-do in the front row. A chili pepper tailored dress with tied belt was a standout and I am a sucker for toggle closures and cropped sleeves. Oh! And check out the cutie patootie ice-skating-esque boots.

Look From Gareth Pugh Fall 2007: Love It or Hate It?

Wowsers! Gareth Pugh is a young designer who just showed his Fall 2007 collection in London and was profiled in Vogue this month; this look really makes me wonder why. While it is important for fashion to have its misfits and hooligans, hello John Galliano?, it's sometimes hard to pinpoint who the real tastemakers are. Pieces from Pugh's previous collections were commissioned by Kylie Minogue, and he's a hit with the London underground art scene, but what can one say about this plasticized look. I'll let you do the talking...Love it of hate it?

London Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Jonathan Saunders

Jonathan Saunders is another bloke with an eye for color and contrasts. He delivered a fluid, yet architectural collection that I found to be an interesting perspective.

With dashing colors and black statements, the collection was both hard and soft. The winners were long gowns with colored paneling in fading colors flowing down the front - a couple of these were translated as shorter dresses (shown). He balanced these liquid fades with color blocking and even threw in a unique colorful marble print. Belts flattered the silhouette and neon eyebrows supplied a futuristic beauty effect. Sharp cutouts were smart; the most wearable piece was a black, tan and ivory cocktail dress with cut out turtleneck and marble print down the center.

London Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Christopher Kane

Christopher Kane was one of the breakthrough talents from the Spring collections. This young lad apprenticed at Versace, which explains his trademark body hugging designs. But he definitely has a 'je ne sais quoi.' I can picture a sassy, svelte lady in his creations - Victoria Beckham perhaps?

His Spring collection razzled with bold colors and dazzled with nuanced ruffles. He translated this aesthetic to Fall quite clearly if you ask me. Punchy colors as well as browns and blacks will make everyone happy. Key materials were leather and velvet, sometimes separate, sometimes married. Glitter lovers will adore his glittering, slim sweater dresses. I was taken by this glittering red velvet off shoulder dress with fingerless sleeves. His tight pleated trims were a bit overpowering sometimes, as well as the large rhinestone closures - but when minimal they were simply fab. It will be very interesting indeed to see where Mr. Kane goes next.

Kate Moss Wears Long Leather at the NME Awards With Hot Man Matt Bellamy

Kate Moss fought off the Winter chill in London last night with a long leather dress. She left her home in the evening in the company of fiancé Jaime Hince, who carried two beers for their drive over to the annual Shockwaves NME Awards. The ceremony, held to honor the year's best music, is a favorite of Kate's - she and her then-boyfriend Pete Doherty got in trouble for indulging in way too much PDA at the 2007 show. This year's honorees included Jamie's bandmate in The Kills, Alison Mosshart, who took home the hottest woman statue. Muse's Matt Bellamy, who attended without his "beautiful pregnant" girlfriend Kate Hudson, picked up the corresponding honors for the men for the fourth time. Kate, Jamie, and Alison have been spending a fair amount of time together over the last few days, as they all stepped out for the James Small menswear show during Fall Fashion Week.
