Metallics have been around the block and back. I'm glad to see them taking on new forms and becoming more fluid and romantic. Sit-Ups Three Ways

Whether you love 'em or hate 'em, sit-ups are here to stay. But like all staple exercises, they can lose their luster and shine. Bust the boredom as you bust your gut, and give your sit-ups a makeover. After mastering the basic sit-up, experiment with these three variations using a medicine ball that I just learned from my Equinox trainer.

Get Medical
Once the basic sit-up feels rote, add a 4 kg medicine ball (a little over 8 lbs) to the move to take it to the next level. Hold the ball close to your chest as you sit up and roll down. The ball makes it more challenging for two reasons, the obvious one being that the medicine ball increases the amount of weight you're working against. Secondly, holding the ball to your chest means you can't throw your arms forward and use momentum to reach the top of the sit-up. Do 20 reps for three sets.

Toss It
Rolling up to sitting holding a medicine ball is fun, but tossing the ball once you make it to the top doubles your pleasure. Throwing the ball once you're sitting up not only means you're now working your arms along with your abs, but your core is forced to stabilize itself as you throw the ball. This is more work and makes for a stronger torso, and a stronger you! Do 20 reps for three sets.

Savvy Tip: Start Your Cyber Monday Shopping Now

The word "Monday" in Cyber Monday makes you think all the best deals are on that specific day, right? Well, that's actually not the case this year. Retailers are being more aggressive with sales as evidenced by stores holding Black Friday sales on Thursday. Many are providing online discounts earlier than the designated Cyber Monday. SmartMoney says:

"As retailers push online sales more aggressively throughout Thanksgiving week and even earlier in the season, Cyber Monday may lose some of its luster. "Every day this holiday season is Cyber Monday," says Dworsky. Amazon, for example, opened its "Black Friday Deals" store Nov. 1, with offers such as 67% off the complete "Arrested Development" series on DVD and 83% off select high-end watches. That's not to say it isn't worth looking on Cyber Monday, says Mitchell - just don't wait until then to buy thinking you'll get a better price."

You may still find good deals on Cyber Monday, but if you spot some great discounts before then, try not to hold out on buying the items. Keep in mind that the product may also run out of stock by the time you decide to buy it. Of course, make sure you're not buying on impulse and it's something that you need that you've been keeping an eye out for.

Earlier this week, the UK's Telegraph reported that the number of soy milk drinkers is on the rise in Britain, with sales up more than £136 million during 2010 for various reasons, including lactose intolerance. Interestingly enough, it was reported just last week that the $2.6 billion US market for soy food and beverages is down 16 percent compared to that of the years 2008-2010. Sounds like, with a focus on new trends such as gluten-free, soy has lost a bit of its luster in America. Still, I'm lactose intolerant and drink it all the time in my coffee, although recently I've also gotten into almond milk. Do you drink soy milk?
