The pants that dominated the Spring runways were a varied lot, from slouchy borrowed-from-the-boys trousers to high-waist '70s styles to the clean, crisp, cropped trouser we saw at Marc by Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and DKNY. With our new Spring shoes dying to break free, the cropped trouser wins our vote for best way to show off new shoes and just a hint of skin. Here are our editors' picks for the best cropped pants, ranging from neutral hues to pops of bright color.

Fab Flash: 2009 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Winners Announced

The recipients of Ecco Domani's 2009 Fashion Foundation awards have been announced. The womenswear category winners are Lyn Devon, Matthew Ames, Cushnie et Ochs by Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, and Ohne Titel by Alexa Adams and Flora Gill. Corpus, by Jerrod Cornish and Keith Richardson, took the honor in menswear, and jeweler Monique Péan received the prize in the accessories group.

In addition, Bodkin Brooklyn designers Eviana Hartman and Samantha Pleet were granted an inaugural award for sustainable design. Each emerging label will receive a $25,000 grant towards their show at NY Fashion Week in February. They join the list of past beneficiaries, which includes Alexander Wang, Zac Posen, and Rodarte. Congratulations to all - we can't wait to see more from these talented designers!

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Lyn Devon and Exclusive Designer Interview!

Lyn Devon is a new-found Fab friend who let us in on her inspiration and fabric-tweaking techniques at New York Fashion Week. She started her design house in 2005 where her artful designs have won accolades - including the 2007 Fashion Group International "Rising Star Award" in Women's Ready to Wear. Oh, and she previously worked at Zac Posen and Ralph Lauren. Fans include Sarah Jessica Parker, Mena Suvari, and yours truly. Why don’t you tell me a bit about inspiration.

This season I started with armor. A warrior. An artful, independent spirit - which is always my muse. I really wanted to play with the idea of hard and soft and having these structural elements but keeping it feminine and really contoured to the body. I definitely brought it closer to the body this season. I was feeling sexy.

Which is your favorite look from the collection?

I’m really excited about the navy shirtdress. It’s simple but tailored to the body and has this interesting detail. We used this technique: We sliced away the fabric and then inserted borders underneath so if you look up close you see these slices, these different sections on the body. I love to play with lines on the body. This particular dress we encrusted with an armor of Swarovski crystals.

read more What about the fabrics and materials you used? I’ve used a stretch file that is really amazing because it holds shape very well. The A-line shape is one of the silhouettes I was working with, in addition to the very fitted silhouettes. I used a chinced wool that has this hard armor-like sheen to it but at the same time it’s really soft. This blanket wool that has a protective feeling. Some great jerseys and crepe wool, which allowed me to contour to the body but in an effortless way. It’s true: The clothes may be armor but they don’t look stiff. I always embrace effortlessness. There’s definitely that play of trying to create a tough elegance but always making it wearable and modern. What’s next?! I’m thinking Cuba - I might take a trip there. I want to keep it sultry and sexy. I just bought a book about Cuba and you’ll see something slightly less constructed. What one item of clothing should every woman have in her closet? Definitely a little black dress. The one from my Fall collection; it holds you in, you can wear it with boots or heels. That’s my little black dress of the season.

Love It or Hate It? Red Wigs at Lyn Devon

Lyn Devon had some fun at her show this week. You could even say that she's wigging out, har har. I think these red bobs are so much fun-and they definitely stand out from all of the natural looks we've been seeing. What do you say? Is this a brilliant stroke of mod-ness or too Ronald McDonald for you?

Amanda and Justin Take Their Time to Germany

Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake stopped on the picturesque streets in front of Hotel Adlon in Berlin today as they promoted the European release of In Time. Amanda chose nude patent platforms and a cutout Lyn Devon dress, while Justin went casual in jeans and a leather jacket. Amanda has favored blue this week, also donning a stylish shorts suit in the same shade for the movie's London premiere on Halloween.

She and Justin have been traveling the globe to drum up international interest in their sci-fi film, which was released in the states on Oct. 28. We recently spoke with Justin and Amanda in LA during a press day for the project, and she told us she actually has fun doing love scenes in her movies, especially when her partner is a guy like Justin. Her comfort level with those will likely come in handy on her next project; Amanda is reportedly in talks to play Linda Lovelace in a biopic about the porn star.
