The Modern Madeline.

At Fab, we're always drawing on our favorite films and fashion memories for newly inspired style, so when we happened on the OnSugar blog Miss Poppins' Purse, we had to share her sweet Parisian style, inspired by a childhood favorite.

Growing up, I loved Ludwig Bemelmans' Madeline. I loved how neat and tidy Miss Clavel always tried to keep the girls, and how little Madeline always seemed to mess it up. I loved the "old house in Paris, that was covered in vines." But most of all, I loved the way those twelve girls dressed in their "two straight lines." Perhaps my fascination with their matching yellow capes and hats represents my early eye for fashion, or perhaps I just wanted to be a part of Madeline's world and her Parisian adventures.

Behind The Seams: Model.Live Launch Party

Remember Madeline, Austria, and Cato from Vogue's new modeling reality show, Model.Live? The online show is now four episodes in, but last night at the Bowery Hotel in NYC, Vogue.TV and IMG hosted a celebration for the launch. Of course, the models and now-reality-starlets showed up looking gorgeous in different variations of LBDs. Cato (right) is my favorite; who's yours?

Actress Becki Newton was also there, as were famous models Jacquetta Wheeler, Kristy Hume, Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann, and socialite Olivia Palermo. As you can imagine, there was lots of posing, smiling, and socializing. Sounds like my kind of party.

I Want This Wardrobe: Gossip Girl

After a long and painful wait, Gossip Girl is back! Little J seems to be ascending the ranks of the hierarchy, or at least trying her darndest to, and her wardrobe is following behind. Jenny spruced up her school garb with nothing less than a Valentino coat, Tahari blouse, Moschino heels, and an eye-popping Valentino bag. Whew! And she still felt compelled to nick a Valentino gown? Tsk, tsk. Of course, no Gossip Girl fashion fix could be complete without a stunning array of hosiery and headbands. Are you excited as we are about the return of these Upper East Siders and their colorful confections?

Madeline Weinrib Debuts Stationery For Dempsey & Carroll

If, like me, you've been lusting after a Madeline Weinrib rug for years, but haven't popped enough pennies in your piggy bank to provide for the purchase, I've got a treat to ease the heartache. The painter and textile designer is moving from the rug factory to the paper mill with a new line of luxury stationery for Dempsey & Carroll. Featuring hand-bordered cards and envelopes with block-printed liners, the fancy boxed stationery has the same exotic sophistication we've come to love from the lady. My favorite is the Isabelle in Pink Set ($60), which features the Pantone-crowned color of 2011, honeysuckle. But there are also more notes in dapper navy blue. Better yet, a portion of proceeds benefits Project Mala, a nonprofit working to eliminate child labor in the Indian carpet industry. The papers may not cover your nine-by-12 living room floor, but for only $60, they sure are high on style.

Transforming an Awkward Hallway

This is my dressing area transformation. It's a hallway that leads to my bedroom. When I moved in, I was stumped with what to do with this niche in a narrow hallway. I decided to place a dresser along with an oversized abstract painting to conceal the horrid fuse box. The graphic dhurrie rug from Madeline Weinrib was the perfect complement to the painting and really jazzed up an otherwise boring hallway.

The Office, "Gettysburg": Best Lines of the Night

This week on The Office, Andy plans a day trip to Gettysburg in order to boost company morale and teach the crew all about the "business" of war and how it translates to paper. Since the trip isn't mandatory, half of the office stays back in Scranton, hoping they'll have a laid-back day. All of that changes when Robert California shows up and tells everyone to start coming up with some "game-changing" strategies. Where did the winning idea come from you ask? I'm happy to say it was none other than the incomparable Kevin Malone.

Back to the field trip: when the gang arrives at their destination, Andy opts out of the traditional "tourist" route and takes everyone on the "specially created Andy Bernard tour," full of quirky lessons and mile-long hikes. When Andy becomes much too much for everyone, he takes off solo, hoping that someone will follow. In the most heartfelt moment of the episode, Jim and Darryl find Andy and give him permission to stop trying so hard; he has nothing to prove and everyone likes having him as manager. I was so thrilled that the guys made this grand gesture. Hopefully this will cut out the Nard Dog's constant whining that I've been finding so hard to swallow these days. Overall, "Gettysburg" is a pretty solid episode. While this wasn't necessarily my favorite of the season, it absolutely has its moments. To find out some of my favorite lines, just keep reading.

Terrific Trellis- and Lattice-Print Home Décor

The words lattice and trellis have had heavy rotation in my vocabulary over the last few years, but the patterns show no signs of receding. While traditional lattice and trellis prints are more X-based, inspired by outdoor garden décor, à la mode patterns have more intricate, curved shapes, often taking cue from Moorish and Moroccan patterns. Some are more timeless than others, and, of course, if you add bold color and unusual texture into the mix, you can become wackier with your style.

One of my favorite new designs is the PB Teen Lattice Rug ($169-$699), which will add graphic contrast to your floors with its shapely diamond pattern. Another long-time fave is Madeline Weinrib Indigo Brooke Rug; but, whenever "inquire for price" is involved, it might cost you an arm and a leg. As for accessories, the Jill Rosenwald Hampton Links Cylinder has a lovely handmade quality and a vibrant color. A Royal Feast: Lemon Curd Cake

A royal wedding requires a royal meal, and if you're tuning in on Friday to watch this fairy-tale wedding, why not celebrate with traditional British food? Every feast needs dessert, and a light, tart lemon-curd cake is the perfect way to finish an evening. The flavor of the cake is reminiscent of Madeline cookies, and it's layered with a sweet and slightly sour lemon curd and topped with a simple zesty frosting. David Netto Gives Parents What They Never Knew They Wanted in the Nursery

It's been 10 years since David Netto shook up the world of nursery design with his modern, case-like cribs. Now, after selling his company to Maclaren, the interior and furniture designer is further expanding the stroller stalwart's home offerings with his first line of crib linens. The "serene designs, but very hot colors" are heavily influenced by the bold patterns of Marimekko and strong colors of Belgian Shoes, as well as the input of his two daughters – Kate, 9, and Madeline, 4, – who are "wild about color." The renowned designer answered a few of my questions as he showed off the four new designs.

LilSugar: What led you to do textiles at this point?
David Netto: I had always planned to. I had plans like that for a long time, but I really didn’t know how to enter that business intelligently. I had enough on my plate trying to make furniture work. To get committed to soft goods and table top . . . There’s a whole bunch of bags designed too that we just never figured out how to make with confidence.

LilSugar: What other influences came into play with the linen design?
David Netto: I wanted it to be the opposite of what the furniture was like. The white serenity and Scandinavian vibrations of all of our hardscapes have always been what we’ve set out to do, and they’re beautiful. But there’s a certain kind of friendliness that a nursery has to have, that comes from fuzzy stuff and things that aren’t sleek. So I wouldn’t have wanted to add to that since the whole premise of the furniture was if you do the architecture right, then you can have the big birds, and stuff, and it will never look that bad. Most people seem to really like bright colors. Nobody really seems to want to live in a disciplined, minimalist environment that’s top to bottom like that. I wanted them to be fun. I looked at all the things that Maclaren is already making and I thought what do I like about modern design when it’s handmade and eclectic and surprising.

I would be afraid to do something too plain. And also, that’s out there. There’s very beautiful Italian stuff, like linen with a scalloped pink edge, and stuff. I’m not going to teach anybody anything new with stuff like that.

There’s a decorating saying that I love that says, “Give them what they never knew they wanted.” Albert Hadley said that. So I’m always trying to get customers to like us who never thought they liked modernism. That’s what this is supposed to deliver as well.
