The verdict is in as Paris Men's Fashion Week came to an exciting end over the weekend. Spring '11 conjured up a variety of styles ranging from streamlined suits to radical printed pants. Our attention immediately went to Givenchy's rocker cool leopard prints and Paul Smith's urban separates. Also noted were some bohemian influences from Alexis Mabille and the reappearance of baggy pants a la John Galliano. Could they be making a fashion comeback?!

Milan Men's Fashion Week jump-started over the weekend - what a treat. For Spring '11, some designers are sticking to their signatures, and some are playing the fashion field. My favorite collections thus far are Roberto Cavalli, John Varvatos, and Gucci. But Versace made me positively giddy; think rockabilly meets macho man. So sexy, so fun. Key trends are neutral, white, and blue suits, printed and baggy pants, and shorts of varying lengths. Not to mention brown leather man satchels and a wide range of loafers. Be sure to look these pics up and down to catch sight of the styles and the gorgeous faces.

Men's Fashion Week in Milan only means one thing to me: hot male models! Can you blame me? Sure, checking out the menswear trends is interesting, but the cheekbones and bodies of those male models are even more flawless. But all is not gorgeousness on the catwalks. A lot depends on the vibe the designer is trying to give off. For instance, Jill Sander's boys are more scrawny and pale and less sculpted and tan as say, Dolce & Gabbana's men. There's nothing wrong with down-to-earth guys, but c'mon, it's so much fun to fawn over these fantasy boys. OK, enough yapping, more pictures!

It's Raining Men! Make Me a Supermodel's Hot Boys

It's currently Men's Fashion Week in Europe, so I've got hunky male models on my brain. Further satiating my appetite are the sizzling male contestants on Bravo's show Make Me a Supermodel. Even if you've merely glanced at the tube while the show was on, you know that the aspiring male models have so much more potential than their female counterparts. Some of them even put host Tyson Beckford to shame.

These boys are going places; they have the bodies of Greek gods and faces that are unearthly. Three in particular stand out for me: Perry (left), Frankie (center), and Casey (right). Not only are they easy on the eyes, but they pose and pout as if it's been their job since exiting the womb. And have you seen them work the catwalk? Should There Be a War on Makeup For Little Girls?

Hope Perlman survived the moment of mothering girls I dread. In her post for NY Times' Motherlode, she relays the day her 13-year-old daughter begged to be allowed to wear makeup to a party.

After much soul searching – Perlman occasionally wears makeup herself – and lecturing, she said yes. She describes her rationale here:

"I wanted her to fit in, because I know fitting in is what middle school is about. But what, exactly, was she starting to fit into? The role of the teenager tortured by her failure to live up to a magazine picture? I'd been that teenager, with a picture of a model taped to my bedroom mirror. It wasn't what I wanted for my child."

So she acquiesced. But not before letting her know exactly what she thought about the message, so aggressively delivered by a male-dominated advertising industry, that girls and women need to paint themselves, cover their skin with lotions and potions, to be beautiful and feminine.

"So that's how I allowed my daughter to start wearing makeup," Perlman says at the end of her essay, "I gave her permission - along with a large and cumbersome bag of guilt. The personal is political. Better remember that. Here's your mascara, honey. And your burden of awareness. Enjoy!"

I relate to Perlman’s story: When my daughter first sensed I had "issues" with makeup, she was about four years old. She asked me to get her a makeup kit, like the one her little friend Hanna got for being a flower girl, and I refused.

"Why not?" she pouted.

Instead of simply saying "because I said so," I treated her to a verbal tirade of stinging righteousness that came from an apparently conflicted place inside of me.
