Fabcon: Sofia Coppola

Sofia Coppola's style can best be described as unfussy, cool and classic. We are talking about one of Marc Jacob's muses here (lucky!). While one may point out she wears a lot of black, 'tis true, but so do other icons such as Kate Moss and Diana Vreeland. Black is one of the truest colors of fashion, and as every woman knows, it's slimming too. But I just love it when Sofia does play with color; it's usually in the form of bolds such as red or pink, or understated with off-white.

The daughter of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia is talented in other areas than fashion. She is an accomplished film director, actress, producer and Academy Award-winning screenwriter. I would also like to point out that she is the first American woman and third woman in history to be nominated for an Academy Award for Directing.

Sofia is just so cool. She is considered a pop culture icon within the indie music and film communities, in Paris and Tokyo especially. It figures she would have fashion sense - as a child she stayed in the wardrobe department of her father's films, and did you know that in high school, she interned with Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel? As well, in 1998 she co-founded the clothing line Milkfed in Japan with friend Stephanie Hayman and Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon. I so remember Milkfed! It was very Beastie girlie - it was sold alongside the Beastie Boys clothing line X-Large back in the day.

While The Virgin Suicides continues to be my favorite film by Sofia, it's just so beautifully melancholy, Marie Antoinette also provided some serious eye, and ear, candy. What's next for Sofia? I can't wait to see.

Girls on Film: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Plumes & Dentelles

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. There is no better way to start your romance-filled day than with shots from Ellen von Unwerth's 2005 book, Plumes & Dentelles (Feathers and Lace). Trust me, it will not only put you in a loving mood, but also a lusting mood! Models Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Melissa Rose Haro play dress up, Marie Antoinette-style. Pink, lace, ruffles, corsets, flowers, garters, pearls - if it's a symbol of sexy, it's included. These seriously make me want to rummage Agent Provocateur, pronto. Who knows, maybe it will inspire you to reenact the scenes for your honey tonight. Wink, wink.

2009 Spring Couture: Christian Dior

John Galliano continues to turn talisman with his 2009 Spring Couture collection for Christian Dior. Tending to a fully packed house, the designer showed a collection filled with whimsy and Victorian influences. Billowing layers of silk taffeta were curled, ruched, and swirled to create a decadent collection of frocks. I like how Galliano played with hemlines, cutting some short at the knee and leaving some long enough to grace the floor. My favorites were the dresses that incorporated both sides of the spectrum.

Another recurring theme was the abundance of shoulder pouf. Here, he embellished with sheer, puffy organza and intricate floral designs - some of them looked like wallpaper Marie Antoinette herself would have chosen. For accessories, the designer adorned his models in equally gregarious silk hats worn over pouffy hair and dramatic makeup. Amazing, simply amazing.

On Our Radar: Upcoming French Flick Targets Fashionistas

French director Laetitia Colombani's next flick could have us pining for fashion in the way that Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette left us drooling for macaroons.

Mes Stars et moi or My Stars and Myself, starring Emmanuelle Béart (left), Catherine Deneuve and Mélanie Bernier, is about actresses who go from fashion shoots to premieres wearing the trendiest designer brands. Supposedly, Béart sports Dior couture; Deneuve goes all out in Yves Saint Laurent, Hermès, Prada, and Fendi; and Bernier dons Lanvin. These lucky ladies can be seen on French screens in October.

Fab Ad: Dom Perignon Oenotheque

When Karl Lagerfeld photographed the ad campaign for the champagne Dom Perignon Oenotheque, he was thinking of a young, handsome old-moneyed couple, for whom everything is perfect. They're just a little bored, and the husband looks at his wife and gets the idea that she could be all women in one. The champagne helps him imagine these fantasies, which are played out through the all the pictures: Claudia Schiffer as French maid, Claudia Schiffer as Marie Antoinette, Claudia Schiffer as blushing bride...

The pictures are all black and white, as Karl prefers with his photography...and his every day dress, for that matter. Do you find the final product fantasy-inducing?

Luscious Velvet Blazers

Here's one way to wear the elegant Marie Antoinette-inspired fashions that are supposed to be so big this Fall: with a luxuriously soft velvet blazer. In dusty pink and purple tones as well as basic black, these plush styles are adorned with ruffles, buttons, embroidery, and other regal details.
