Nina Gets Welcomed to Marie Claire With Her Celeb Friends

A few of Fashion Week's devotees took a break from the runways in New York to celebrate Nina Garcia's new position as Marie Clarie's Fashion Director last night. Her friend and fellow Project Runway judge Heidi Klum was right by her side while the rest of us were watching last night's episode. Lindsay Lohan celebrated her latest magazine cover doing double duty with the Olsen twins - all three ladies stopped by both this and the Stand Up For a Cure Event. Nina must be excited about her job and we're interested to see if it will affect the new Project Runway come January.

Lindsay Gets a Little Personal in Marie Claire

Lindsay Lohan had on her sassy face when she posed for the cover of October's Marie Claire. Between filming Labor Pains and Ugly Betty, Lindsay found time to open up to the magazine about her new focus on work, her father's paternity dispute and, of course, Samantha Ronson. Lindsay was happy to chat about the tattoos she and Samantha both have, but she still managed to keep things a little vague by discussing her plans to buy a house with "someone." Here's more:

On her relationship with Samantha: "Um, people can think what they want. I'm really happy, and that's all that matters."
On Samantha: "She's a great person. And she's a great influence on people around her. But I think that anything that's changed in my life is because of me. I've gone through it and I've had to deal with it and I've made the decision to move forward. So yeah, she's a great person."
On Michael's paternity dispute: "I don't know what's going on with it. I haven't asked him any questions. Apparently we've been in the dark for so many years. We've gone through enough with him. Enough is enough - until he decides to be a grown-up."

On her new attitude towards filming: "It's a lot of pressure, because everyone's depending on you. And your mood, when you go on set, everybody feels it. On a day when you're tired, it's important to just say good morning to everyone so they're kind of aware that it's gonna be a good day. Jamie Lee Curtis told me that."
On her resolve not to go back to her old ways: "I've learned. I'll never go back. And it's not a never-say-never type thing - it's just, I know. I know."

Kristin Talks Sex And Shopping

As Sex And The City fever sweeps the nation, Kristin Davis and Sarah Jessica Parker are the two cover stars on the new Marie Claire magazine. The majority of you loved the movie, and a bunch of you are seeing it this weekend – so here's some excerpts from Kristin's interview where she discusses plot rumours, adulthood, her battle with alcoholism and, of course, sex and shopping:

On sex and shopping: “I’m not really a shopper so that’s the easy one. I have to say definitely good sex. What makes good sex? Oh my god. I think you need to feel free and to feel free you have to really trust the other person. Erm, and you have to have that strange, mysterious chemical connection.”
On not really feeling like an adult: “I guess, at some point I felt like I would feel like an adult. Certainly it’s very different to be 43 as opposed to when I was young and 43 seemed really, really old.”
On facing her own mortality: “This is going to sound strange but I really didn’t think I would pass 30. I don’t know why or whatever, I just didn’t. It’s a very weird thing to say, I’m sorry. I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I was drinking so much as a youth. You know, I drank a lot when I was teenager and I don’t drink anymore because that’s when I thought, you know, I’m gonna end up a car wreck. I just had a fatalistic viewpoint of the whole situation at that point.”

On being a former alcoholic: “Alcoholism is a genetically predisposed disease and it does run in my family. I also think I felt like a misfit. I was in the South, everybody was blonde. (An only child, Kristin's parents divorced when she was a baby. Adopted by her stepfather, a psychology professor, the family moved Columbia, South Carolina where he worked at the university.) I just didn’t feel like I fitted in. It was sort of my way of fitting. I mean, I don’t know how much you know about the American South but there’s a history of bourbon! People in the South get upset with me when I talk about this. It’s obviously different now but when I was a teenager everything was based on a very kind of elaborate social scene in the South. There were social clubs and high school fraternities and college. You know, I’m kind of shy normally, so I felt like I needed help and then one thing led to another and I was drinking.”
Was it a rebellious thing? “Not so much because I was still a straight A student. I was pretty good at hiding it so my parents didn’t really know. Of course it came out and they were like, ‘Oh no, what has happened?’ What made me stop? (She was 22 years old when she became teetotal.) I realised it was not going to end well. I got into the acting programme, it was a very challenging, I was hungover and I wasn’t doing so well in my classes. I thought, ‘Do you know what? It’s going to be one or the other. I can’t really have both.”
On the SATC movie rumours: “Can I just say, my character doesn’t die. [laughs]. That’s really funny. Oh yeah, we did the Sex And The City movie so we could kill Charlotte. Oh yeah, that’s hysterical. No. Definitely no.”

Heidi Klum Is Her Usual Silly Self in Marie Claire

While Project Runway is getting a makeover for next season, the show's host doesn't need any touching up. Heidi got back in the supermodel saddle to pose for the June issue of Marie Claire. As usual, she had lots to say about her family and showed her goofy side talking about the show. Here are highlights:

On having a big family: "I always wanted to be a mom. At Thanksgiving, I have my parents there, I have screaming kids, I have a big fat turkey-18 pounds-sitting in the middle; legs are being ripped off that thing, you know what I mean? There's life in the house. I don't want to be wondering about how skinny I am, wondering what I'm going to eat because I don't want to gain and I want to look hot and young, always and forever."
On Project Runway: "We're in this dark, tiny room, and I have 15 people in front of me who are terrified. It's not like, 'Hey, what's up?' You can hear a mouse fart in that room."
On losing baby weight: "I always think, Look at how people were before they were pregnant. If you were a toned, healthy, energetic person, most likely you will be like that again. A lot of people come to me, and they're like, 'Will I look like you after I have a baby?' And I say, 'Well, how were you before?' You can't kid yourself."

On Seal's proposal in the Canadian Rockies: "He took me by helicopter. He had an igloo built there, and they'd brought up everything: a bed with sheets inside the igloo, rose petals everywhere, candles. Very, very romantic! There was food and champagne, and then the helicopter left. It was a little scary, too, because you're so cut off from the world. No trees, nothing-it was hard-core. But I was ecstatic. I loved it. It was wonderful."
On starting a family early: "Some people are afraid, especially in this industry, that if you are out of it, it'll be hard to get back in it. I didn't care. I thought, It's my life, not yours. I was ready to take the chance and not get back into it if they decided they didn't want me anymore."
On the modeling industry: "When I started, Kate Moss was the hottest thing. It was not about being proud and upright with the smile glowing - a powerful woman. It was more about being a crushed, crumbled person in the corner; the beaten-down girl looking a little sad and tired."

We can always count on Heidi to show her blunt, down-to-earth side, but it's all just part of her appeal. Let's just hope they don't try to change her quirky antics when Project Runway finally comes back on the air.

Cate Blanchett Is Eco-Chic

Cate Blanchett is a fitting cover star for Marie Claire's eco-chic June issue, which also features a whole host of A list environmental activists. Just before she gave birth to Ignatius, Cate chatted about "greenovating" her home, about her her marriage and about filming Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (released on 22nd May).
Here are highlights:

On her husband: "We're unnaturally close... He was the first person I was romantically involved with who I could talk to about how I work. I have actor friends whose partners don't provide any constructive criticism. But I get support in all its forms from my husband... I really hope he gets that from me, too."
On Indiana Jones: "This is one my kids can definitely see... Dash watched takes with me on set and he was really impressed - as I was - by 'the guy in the hat', as he referred to Harrison Ford."
On the future: "I firmly believe we all have the capacity to think big thoughts and are ripe to be inspired. I'm an optimist. I believe we're ready as a generation to seize this opportunity to make profound environmental changes for the better. After all, what's the alternative?"

George and Renée Have Their Chemistry Covered

George Clooney and Renée Zellweger teamed up for yet another magazine cover, looking friendly as ever but with a more clean-shaven Clooney. BTW, anyone recognize Renée's dress? These buddies have been having fun promoting Leatherheads from the Whistle Stop Express to the big premiere, but they're even more entertaining in their interviews. In Marie Claire, they kept the conversation to the movie and politics, with a quick Britney joke thrown in. Here are highlights:

Renée on the on-screen chemistry with George during the filming of Leatherheads: "Oh, there's a natural comfort there, absolutely. But I was terrified - I didn't want to be the one who sucked in his movie. You'd much rather disappoint somebody you're not going to see again."
George on Leatherheads' old-fashioned setting: "I have a great nostalgia for things that seem simpler. I know that they weren't. I'm sure it wasn't always 'the good old days' - people were dying of polio! I truly do understand the difference, but there was a clarity to the storytelling that I miss and I like. That's why I did Good Night, and Good Luck."
George on wanting children: "I did try to adopt Britney Spears - you know, somebody with some cash to take care of me in my old age."

We doubt that Oscar-winning Renée has to worry about holding her own on the big screen, even with George. As for Britney Spears - Clooney is ever the jokester and she may not be rich, but he actually did find a PYT to help him down the red carpet.

Kate Bosworth's No Sorority Sister

Kate Bosworth is looking gorgeous as ever on the cover of the April issue of Marie Claire showing off her sexy wavy hair. Now that she's in promotion mode for 21, we have a feeling we'll be seeing Kate show off lots of red carpet looks, but in the interview we get a glimpse of how down-to-earth she really is. Here are highlights:

On getting older: "I just turned 25, which was a weird one. I feel like I had this quarter-century crisis. Whenever I said before that I was 21 or 22, everyone would say, 'Oh, see, you're so young.' And all of a sudden, you hit 25, and people say, "Oh, right, uh, OK.' And you're like, 'Uh, what do you mean?"
On relationships: "Orlando and I were both in the public eye. So this [current] relationship [with model James Rousseau] has been a little easier that way. And I feel like I'm in a different stage of my life, to be honest. With Orlando, we were younger."
On her upbringing: "I'm an only child, and I think I was raised as a tomboy in a certain sense. My father was outside playing sports with me all the time. One of the first things he did was teach me how to throw. Whenever you see someone blonde, people immediately think she was a cheerleader or a sorority sister or something. And I was never that type."

Love that Kate can mix girly-girl and tomboy and still manage to look fabulous at all times. As for James, we're big fans of Orlando's but it's hard to imagine Kate doing anything these days without her cute boy by her side.

Natalie Natters To Marie Claire

When I met her recently it was so clear how intelligent she is, and MC asked her about her Harvard degree – she said,

"I can be pretentious and talk about books for hours, but I’m not hyper-intellectual or anything. I mean, I like to read, but lots of people do. I’m not the hard, brainy girl at all. I’m really mushy. [Laughs.] I’m much more mush, I think, than anything else!"

Brains, sensitivity and beauty... I'd be hating on her if she wasn't so likeable!!

Natalie Portman Is Smart and Mushy

In between promoting The Other Boleyn Girl all around the world, Natalie Portman found time to pose for another stunning photoshoot, this time for the April Marie Claire UK. With all Natalie's acting success it can be easy to forget she has a Harvard degree to go with that pretty face. When asked about it, she said, "I can be pretentious and talk about books for hours, but I’m not hyper-intellectual or anything. I mean, I like to read, but lots of people do. I’m not the hard, brainy girl at all. I’m really mushy. [Laughs.] I’m much more mush, I think, than anything else!" While Natalie should never be ashamed of being smart, it's nice to know she loves her soft side too. Reese Is a Serious-Faced Avon Ambassador

Reese Witherspoon shows off her serious side (can't you tell from the photos?!) in the February issue of Marie Claire, putting away her trademark smile to talk about her charity work. Awww, cheer up, Reese! Over the Summer, Reese was named the first-ever Avon Global Ambassador, which is a topic near and dear to her heart these days and something she wants to talk about, but she also got in some nice words about her new co-star Vince, too. Here's more:

On taking on the role of Avon Ambassador: The Avon Foundation has been hugely active in the fight against breast cancer - and also in the areas of domestic violence and disaster relief. I went to New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and it was devastating to see how underserved those communities are. I'm looking forward to helping raise money and awareness for those causes. In fact, over the years, I've been approached by many companies to support their brands or products, but I've never felt as inspired as when I met the people from Avon - I feel like they've given me an opportunity to connect to women in a very personal way.
On Vince: "I’ve been a big fan of his for so many years. Vince is one of the only actors working today who makes me laugh in every movie I see him in. Working with him has been a great experience for me, a real exercise in always staying on my toes comedically. I laugh every day at work!"

That makes both her and Vince who are super complimentary of each other, but I wonder if these interviews were conducted before the rumors of on-set trouble. In the interview she also talks about her upcoming movie Penelope, which looks totally weird, don't you think?

Christina's Not Holding Anything Back Anymore

Christina Aguilera bares all on the cover of the January issue of Maire Claire, really showing off her baby bump. She's never been shy about showing some skin, but it's funny to think that just a few months ago she was keeping mum about whether or not she was even pregnant. In the article, Christina finally opens up about her pregnancy and more. Here are highlights:

On when she got pregnant:
"We were planning on starting to try after the tour. And so, I had gone off the Pill to prepare my body, because I didn't know how much time it would take. You've heard it takes some time -- except with Power Egg and Super Sperm here... I'm like, Oh, my God, can you believe it just happened?"
On keeping the baby secret from her audiences:
"I was paranoid. There are so many things that could go wrong -- somebody could slip, somebody could fall, I could fall. There was no way in hell I was going to jeopardize my baby for my show. I didn't want to make the audience uncomfortable, like, 'Pregnant lady onstage! Is she going to be OK?'"
On not getting upset over Paris' big VMA revelation:
"Because I hadn't said anything, people thought I was trying to keep it this big, bad secret, and that's not the case at all. I just wasn't commenting. I'm not being like, 'Hey, everybody, I'm pregnant!' I'm not that girl."

Christina certainly draws a lot of attention whether she intends to or not, but we respect that she didn't feel the need to broadcast her news to the world. The pop star is looking healthy and fabulous and we can't help but wonder if her little boy will be here by the time his mommy's cover hits the newsstands.

Jennifer Can't Wait To Be On Stage

We're so used to seeing Jennifer Garner as a wife and mommy that we sometimes forget how gorgeous she is. However, Jen shows that she hasn't lost her sex appeal in these photos for Marie Claire. Speaking of branching out and mixing things up, Jen is in talks to do Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with Matthew McConaughey and she recently revealed how excited she is to make her big Broadway debut. She said,

It's always been my absolute dream of all dreams. All of this stuff that I have done, has been accidental. I always, always meant to be on stage. I only ended up even auditioning for television and movies because I was understudying a Turgenev play on Broadway and was so broke that when I got a miniseries I had to take it. So this chance I couldn't pass up. Working with Kevin Kline, being in New York in the fall, doing this role, getting to say these words. I mean, just thinking about it I get so excited!"

We've been fans of Jennifer's ever since her Alias days but it's sweet that her dream of performing on stage is finally coming true. We're also looking forward to Violet sightings in NYC's finest parks.
