Avedon For Breakfast

I have always been an Avedon fan, but after viewing his new exhibit at the SFMOMA "Richard Avedon: Photographs: 1946-2004," I look at the iconic photographer in a new light. A raw, intense, emotional spotlight.

New York-born Avedon was an integral part of fashion in the '60s - you probably recognize Twiggy's hair and Dovima with elephants. These were from his decades as the staff photographer at Harpers Bazaar. He then delved into the zeitgeist of the turbulent '60s, shooting portraits of players in the sexual and intellectual counterculture movements; the Beatles, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Dylan, Malcolm X, and Andy Warhol were all present in one room. One photo that had me mesmerized was a glimpse of Warhol's scar-ridden torso; it was provocative yet melancholy, further feeding into the artistic enigma that is Warhol.

Self-portraits of the late photographer were sprinkled throughout, showing his evolution from young gun to wise old soul.

One series in particular intrigued: "In the American West" (1980-85). While it was exciting to look into the eyes of famed writers, artists, political figures, and icons, it was the real people of our country - oil workers, a 13-year-old rattlesnake wrestler, drifters, carnies, waitresses - that evoked life, real humanity.

Avedon passed away in 2004 and this is the only US venue for this exhibition - the first major retrospective of his work since his death. If you happen to be in San Francisco July 11 to Nov. 29, be sure to eat some Avedon for breakfast, it is an utterly fulfilling, eye-opening experience. See some selections from the exhibit.

Did you know it was Marilyn Monroe's birthday on June 1? Were the bombshell still with us, she would have been 83 years old! In honor of the fabulous icon, I asked you to create sassy outfits she would have worn. There were so many gorgeous looks but I could only feature three.

I started you off with this Delia's Susanna Circle Skirt ($35). I can see her having fun in it, like she did in her white halter dress.

Look #1, created by miknat93, is sexy and luxurious, so Marilyn would have loved it.

Fab Body Guide, Part One: The Best Swimsuits For Full Figures

Ah, the quest for the perfect swimsuit. After trying on numerous bikinis, one pieces, monokinis - you name it - what was once a fun shopping expenditure can sometimes turn into a disheartening experience. Believe me, I know how it feels.

Regardless to what you may think, full-figured women have a lot of different options to choose from. Complement your curves with a sexy one piece or dare to bare in a bikini. The key: Try to avoid suits with little or no support.

To learn what kind of suits are best for a large bust, bottom heavy, and plus-sized figures, read more.

Large Bust: If you're plentiful in this area, look to halter-style bathing suits. Wide bands around the midriff will give your girls much-needed support and lift while showing off some of that sexy décolletage.
Bottom Heavy: Minimize a heavy tush with a bikini bottom that has a wide set band or opt for a short, skirted version. Avoid string bikini bottoms and boy shorts.
Plus-Size: Swim dresses are flattering to plus-sized figures. Look for darker colors and prints with longer or shorter lengths to conceal or reveal as much as you please. Avoid baggy fits and bright colors.

All this talk of Madonna and rhinestones at Balenciaga has me admitting that I too am a material girl. I'm a nostalgia buff and prefer the old Madonna to the new, but I love Madge either way. Also, Lindsay Lohan's take on Marilyn Monroe's famous Bert Stern photo shoot reminded me of this fabulous vid. Madonna has shown us many fantasy worlds of hers, but what gal wouldn't want men ogling and offering them ~~rhinestones~~ diamonds left and right? Further, love seeing the real Madonna in her old-school style that started it all.

It includes categories like sexiest style past and present, and sexiest legs past and present. To celebrate the list, the lingerie giant threw a huge party at the Bowery Hotel in NYC. Of course, VS hotties Adriana Lima and Doutzen Kroes (left) were in attendance, as were other gorgeous models and actresses. You better believe there was enough sexiness to last a lifetime.
