Compare & Contrast: Ashley & Mary-Kate Olsen

Forgive me for sounding like a broken record, but Ashley and Mary-Kate are serious style icons in the making. We should look to them for inspiration whenever we can because they really are designer muses; it is wise to follow their dramatic trends-in-the-making choices. Though there are favorite similarities (shoes!) between the avant-garde sisters, they do use different approaches to dressing. Ashley's look is more streamlined and modern, while MK's is more tousled and vintage-inspired. I thought it would be fun to compare and contrast the recent outfits they wore while shopping at Maxfields in Los Angeles. Both are edgy, both are Fab, but which do you identify with more?

Top: Leave it to Ash to make a black scarf and a men’s t-shirt look androgynous chic!

Bottom: Black cigarette jeans are always
flattering.

Accessories: The Fendi bag reinforces her sleek look by adding clean lines. Those Alaia platforms are killer! The dramatic straps make the shoes the focus of the outfit. I’m guessing that was her intention. The bulky watch compliments her boyish look and her modern aviators are bad ass.

Top: It’s no surprise MK is wearing a voluminous cardigan as a dress; she can get away with it because it’s loose and she’s petite.

Bottom: Non existent. But props to her for letting her skinny stems breathe!

Accessories: Her Prada fringe bag adds some much-needed texture to her otherwise simple outfit. Her patent mule Loubs are very old Hollywood and the traditional aviators are classic.

Kate Holmes Hangs in LA While Short-Haired Tom Cruise Reports For Duty

Katie Holmes flashed a smile yesterday when she left the Maxfield shop in LA. She was chatting on the phone as well, possibly with her husband Tom Cruise who's across the country in Pittsburgh at the moment. Tom's in Pennsylvania getting to work on his new film One Shot. The movie, in which Tom plays the character Jack Reacher from Lee Childs's popular book series, may be the first in a new franchise. The picture already seems to include some of Tom's patented stunt work, as he was behind the wheel of a vintage car yesterday. Many fans of the books were upset that Tom, who's under six feet tall, was playing the supposedly massive character of Jack. Lee Childs recently defended Tom, saying, "I wasn't surprised [by Cruise's casting] because this was on the cards for a very long time. . . . We've been dealing with his people for six years. Obviously, Tom Cruise doesn't match the physical description of Reacher in the books, but the movie is not going to match the book anyway. More than that though, which actor does match Reacher physically? What people forget is that Tom Cruise is quite possibly the best actor of his generation."

Courteney Cox and David Arquette Spend Their Anniversary Weekend Shopping While Coco Gets Pampered

Courteney Cox and David Arquette were both spotted out shopping over the weekend, though their outings took place in different cities. Courteney was in Malibu on Saturday and she checked out Maxfield and chatted on the phone while daughter Coco was busy getting her hair done at a local salon. David, meanwhile, arrived at the Lisa Klein boutique in Beverly Hills a few minutes before the store opened on Sunday and had to wait outside before heading in to pick up a few things. Yesterday was the couple's 12th wedding anniversary, but the state of their relationship remains up in the air since their separation last Fall. David and Courteney are still on good terms though, and she stepped out to support him after his Beacher's Madhouse show earlier this month. Whether or not the duo recognized their latest marriage milestone, Courteney has her 47th birthday to celebrate on Wednesday. Courteney's home is featured in Elle Decor this month, and the gorgeous oceanfront house would be a perfect place for a party.

Victoria and David Beckham stopped by Maxfield in West Hollywood with their oldest son Brooklyn and youngest daughter Harper on Friday. David held precious baby Harper in his arms while Victoria stayed close to Brooklyn. We saw Victoria Beckham's first postbaby outing last month, and this time the mom of four showed off longer hair and her slim figure in an all-black ensemble and super sky-high heels. Victoria may be hanging near home lately, but David's been all about spending time with his boys. They've been spotted boogie boarding in Malibu often since Harper's birth in July and the holiday weekend should give them plenty of time to hit the waves before Summer winds down.

Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig were together in LA yesterday to visit the shop Maxfield. The couple are on the West Coast after a stay in New York, where they tied the knot earlier this month. Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig got married in mid-June at a house north of NYC. Now they're side by side gearing up to promote the movie that apparently brought them together. You can check out Daniel and Rachel playing husband and wife in the Dream House trailer, and the spooky movie, which also costars Naomi Watts, will be out in September.

The Beckham Boys Reward Themselves With Ice Cream Following a Surf Lesson and Bikini Photo Shoot

David Beckham took his eldest sons Romeo and Brooklyn out for ice cream in Malibu yesterday. The Beckhams are spending their Summer days at the beach while they patiently await the birth of their first daughter. David's doing his best to keep the boys busy. He joined Brooklyn for a private surf lesson in the morning then ventured out to Maxfield with all three boys for a bit of retail therapy. Victoria missed out on the shopping session, though she did post a picture of Becks surfing on her Twitter. She's been out of the spotlight for the past month, but a photo of Victoria Beckham in a bikini surfaced yesterday when David posted it on his Facebook page. Their baby girl is expected any day now, and it seems like the whole family is doing their best to relax and enjoy their final days as a party of five. The Galaxy's next home game is scheduled for this Saturday, though David is still nursing a stress fracture so it's unclear if he'll join the team on the field.
