I have to admit that after last week's episode, I was losing my faith in Don Draper. Luckily, last night's episode of Mad Men indicates that Don is beginning to swim his way back up from the bottom.
Speaking of swimming, that's exactly what Don was doing at the New York Athletic Club. I loved the shots of him outside the club's building, and while it was hard to tear my eyes away from Don's handsome mug, when I did, I couldn't help but notice the NYAC's facade. I was inspired by the medallion ornamentation in particular, which had me brainstorming about additional medallion-shaped decor. Check out my finds below.

Summer is almost over but I'm going to turn my frown upside down. I've decided to welcome the new season with open arms. How, you ask? By shopping, of course. Time to pack away that linen skirt and make room for this Vintage Ethnic Print Mini Skirt, size extra small to small. The colors are rich and I love the medallion print. Bare-legged for now and black tights for later. Don't forget to accessorize with boots.

Christina Ricci gives us a lesson on how to be subtly sexy at the the opening of Barneys at The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino. Her navy silk dress would be conservative if it weren't for that plunging keyhole neck and gold medallion necklace. The rest is simple and sleek, so I threw in a couple items to help complete the look. Does anyone else wish we saw more of Ms. Ricci?! Especially if she's looking this good?

If there ever was a sexy item of jewelry it would be the medallion. These lovely celebs have been spotted wearing these Grecian-inspired pieces in this week's Life & Style. I am lusting after Jada Pinkett Smith's Bulgari one myself! These can be worn either short, with a crisp shirt, or long, with a slinky dress or flowing tank. Go Girlie With Colorful, Fabric Tufting

Incorporating a tufted piece of furniture can add loads of panache to a space, but adopting such a traditional style might not be for everyone. If you still associate the trend with smoking jackets, formal libraries, and dark, glossy leather, think about adopting colorful fabric versions instead. The look is undeniably feminine and contemporary enough for a more modern aesthetic.

Jonathan Adler is a master at interpreting vintage styles in a fresh way, and he certainly doesn't shy away from color. He decorated fashion designer Liz Lange's apartment, playing with scale, texture, pattern, and of course color! The giant tufted ottoman he uses becomes the focal point of the room, not only because of its size and vibrant shade, but also because of the stark difference in textures between the clean lines of the sofa and the beautiful, feminine curves of the ottoman.

This mix of traditional and modern aesthetics creates interest in a room, and tufted pieces covered in bright hues cover both categories. Tour the Work of Pritzker Prizewinner Eduardo Souto de Moura

Today, Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura was named as the winner of the 2011 Pritzker Architecture Prize. Founded in 1979 by the late Jay A. Pritzker and his wife, Cindy, the Pritzker Architecture Prize recognizes a living architect whose work embodies the talent, commitment, and vision needed to consistently improve the built environment. The laureate receives a $100,000 grant and a bronze medallion.

Pritzker Prize jury chairman, The Lord Palumbo, quoted from the jury citation outlining the reasons for this year’s choice" “During the past three decades, Eduardo Souto de Moura has produced a body of work that is of our time but also carries echoes of architectural traditions . . . His buildings have a unique ability to convey seemingly conflicting characteristics - power and modesty, bravado and subtlety, bold public authority and a sense of intimacy -at the same time.”

Souto de Moura opened his architecture office in 1980, and since that time has completed 60 projects, most in Portugal. His minimalist, handsome buildings are a meditation on the restrained line, and an example of how removing extraneous flourishes can create a work of stunning beauty.
