It's official: Celebrities love Alexander Wang's Metallic Dress. Audrina Patridge and Nicole Scherzinger have it, and now Mischa Barton got her hands on it, too. Audrina went barelegged and with metallic peep-toe pumps, while Mischa covered up in tights and studded booties. Both brunettes, both slender, but who wore it better?

The Marc by Marc Jacobs collection was all about the schoolgirl gone grunge. Loose trapeze-like dresses and combat boots melded with pleated skirts and pretty bouclé coats resulting in a mashup of feminine cool tinged with military touches. The main focus were full-skirted dresses made in floral prints, metallic finishes, plaid, velvet, and sheer mesh. Outerwear featured a standout fur collared anorak and plenty of ladylike coats. We were especially smitten with the polished textural coats, nipped in at the waist with leather belts. Leave it to Kate and Laura Mulleavy to not only draw a star-studded front row - hello, George Lucas, Natalie Portman, and Dakota Fanning - but to deliver a stellar, 1940s-inspired Fall '12 collection too. One part cave-drawing-infused, one part retro femme, and one part Australian outback-reminiscent, Rodarte showcased a beautiful mix of totally girlie pieces with both red-carpet appeal and wearable ladylike style. The sister duo paid close attention to feminine details á la Peter Pan collars, artfully structured ruffles, and metal star appliqué hair combs. Yet, never ones to shy away from throwing some quirk into the picture, they added literal hand prints to long, flowy evening gowns and added cowboy buckles to double-strap leather belts. The biggest covet-worthy takeaway from today's show? After several seasons of collaborating with key shoe designers like Nicholas Kirkwood and Christian Louboutin, the Mulleavy sisters debuted their first-ever in-house shoe collection. We're calling it: Rodarte's two-tone pumps with heels made of plexiglass, sexy dominatrix-inspired spat heels, and lace-up boots will be Fall '12 It girl items. All in all, it's a gorgeous autumnal lineup, just begging to be worn.

Tory Burch Fall 2012

Tory Burch's Fall collection was inspired by "the idea of a prim girl who's under the spell of the wrong kind of guy." The results? An array of prim and polished looks injected with just the right amount of librarian girl sexiness. Sultry lace dresses showcased embellished collars, peplum tops were adorned with sequins, and pencil skirts were decorated with frilly hemlines. Burch also gave new life to tweed and tartan; a pair of knockout leather tweed-printed pants were the highlight of the show. Meanwhile, a cozy selection of bouclé jackets and angora sweaters provided texture and warmth. A little '60s mod, a little well-played kitsch - Karen Walker zeroes in on a playfully smart Fall '12, complete with paisley, pops of bold color, gold statement pieces, and her signature sunnies topping off every look. The designer was inspired by sea monsters and Victorian-age romanticism, as well as the Jules Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for her Fall collection -culminating in a totally wearable group of fun, feminine pieces. Derek Lam's runway show today at St. John's center was worth the freezing trek through wind tunnels. For Fall, Lam mixed his ladylike style with a sportif twist melding chic separates with a menswear twist. Pretty ivory floral satin bomber jackets were paired with pencil skirts and finished off with eye-catching cap-toe ankle boots and metallic loafers. Additionally, there were sharp metallic suit sets, quirky collars, and pleated wide-leg cropped trousers made in wool, leather, and, for a glitzy touch, sequins. Lam's effortless style was also translated into a beautiful array of ivory and black languid silk gowns paired with textural cable-knit sweaters. Delivering pretty bird prints and slick metallics with polish and restraint, Tibi's Amy Smilovic offered an understated, menswear-inspired take on Fall '12. Complete with cropped trousers and boxy boyfriend coats, Smilovic zeroed in on a borrowed-from-the-boys style with womanly wearability. Proportions were done just right, as were the designer's bird prints that felt more sophisticated than playful paired with a cool crop of flat ankle boots and perfectly fit knits. Suiting too was worked with easy sophistication - even her emerald green, bright cobalt, and metallic suit separates spoke to a more modern, minimalist sense, tempered in slim silhouettes. Smilovic tempers her femme offerings with the same style - dresses are cut from the same creamy fabrics and finished with the same accessibility.

Known for her body-conscious silhouettes and athletic aesthetic, the designer offered up avant-garde, futuristic chic with ornate spiderweb-inspired cable-knit pieces, drapey cowl-neck tops and dresses, and bright pops of color and metallic sheen. While Theophilus London serenaded the crowd (and Olivia Palermo jammed along to the beat), Minkoff's catwalkers hit the runway boasting an insanely cool crop of Fall looks. Bold in every sense, the collection delivered a confident mix of prints, sequins glamming up easy separates, and no shortage of megawatt color. She succeeds in delivering the "fearless and unfettered" - but it's not without a dose of the designer's quintessential wearability. There's an effortlessness to it all; Minkoff makes you believe pulling off a shinning emerald suit is just as easy as it looks.
