Sequins aren't just for New Year's Eve. I've been jonesing for a sequin mini to pull on with my casual basics. Then I came across this Haute Hippie Sequin Bandage Mini ($395) and fell in love. It's got a bandage silhouette, adorned in sparkly, sequined shimmer. How could I say no? I had to - the big fat price tag. Don't fret just yet, I've got a backup

The Look For Less: Luella Tiered Floral Mini Skirt

Luella's fun, floral frocks have been making their rounds but I'm most smitten with the tiered floral mini skirt that bug-eyed model Masha Tylena wore at the Spring '08 show. The designer has proven that little girls aren't the only ones who can pull off this style. Now if only she could have made it more affordable . . .

Forever 21 is no stranger to high-fashion duplications, but this Floral Ruffle Skirt ($18) is one of the best so far. The colors aren't dead on, and the tiers are much bigger, but it's equally fabulous and much less pricey. Follow Luella and pair it with a casual tee, lace-up heels, and a cardi to get a playful Spring look!

Remember last week when Katie Holmes sported a mini skirt and Louboutins at the beach in Cannes? To say she was daring is an understatement! Well, for Katie at least. You can be as bold as Katie because I found her M Missoni Striped Miniskirt, $355, while poking around the Fall collections. Preferably, I'd wear it to a fancy soiree instead of the beach...but then again, I'm not Mrs. Tom Cruise!

Marc by Marc Jacobs Shoes Round Toe Patent Leather Pump in Violet, $325. I have been obsessing about these for months now; that color, that shape, have, want, need.
Alloy Convertible Gauze Short, $29. Gearing up for my trip to Greece next month (!) this little white tube/short number is perfect for my adventures!
American Apparel Interlock Mini Skirt in Black, $25. Ever since I saw Cam's hot little mini ensemble I've been jonesing for this look.
Hurley Palms Dress, $52. I have a weakness for surfer brands and this palm print is one of my favorite color combos - blue & red - and the print is artsy beachy.
Kooba Sloane in Grey, $625. Those criss-cross bands are hot and that grey color is so cool.

For her Fall 2012 collection, Isabel Marant mixed her signature bohemian-cool style with a splash of the Wild West. Specifically, it was the late 19th century cowgirls that inspired Marant: "I love the way they were wearing very masculine trousers to ride horses with lace shirts," said Marant. That said, the designer mixed feminine pieces with tougher elements by pairing a bevy of cowgirl shirts and sheer blouses with ruffled skirts and cropped pants. The latter featured a mix of fringed jeans and a standout pair of louche gray suede trousers with red trim. Short dresses ranged from laser-cut leather minis to a silk shirtdress rendition of the cowgirl top. Shoes are always a big seller for Marant, and we can already predict a long waiting list for her newest offerings: point-toe pumps with cutout details and embroidered leather cowboy boots. Balmain Fall 2012

Olivier Rousteing conjured up a Louis the XIV-meets-rocker vibe for Balmain's Fall 2012. It's Balmain's signature cool-girl appeal done up in rich Baroque-era references - brocade and pearl embellishments cover nearly everything, slim pants and maxi skirts feel infinitely more luxe in velvet fabrications, and pretty floral-embroidered details feel almost like oil paintings. When we're not taken with the decadent craftsmanship, we're looking to slick silhouettes that counter the 17th-century feel with the rocker-inspired edge. But there's less leather here than you think - only a few slim leather pants and body-con leather tops; the rest is done up in velvet, and even moto-style quilted vests are finished in the same plush fabrications. The real star of this show is ornate embellishment married with Balmain's sharp silhouettes. This is where Rousteing crafts his cool - a kind of nod to the classics, an homage to elegance with a definitively modern point of view.

Trends: Brocade, pearl embellishment, slits, velvet, leather, metallic, military-style jackets, baroque references.

Moschino Fall 2012

It's always a rollicking good time to look at a Moschino show, and the Fall 2012 collection brings us a quirky mix of styles - military, ski, '60s - all filtered through the Moschino prism of color and indulgent detail. Short, flirty dresses were outfitted with feathers and abundant ruffles, capes and jackets were outfitted with military epaulettes, capes featured quilted fronts, and skirts were unabashedly mini - forget all the ladylike midi lengths we've been seeing on the runways elsewhere. Bright poppy colors on structured minis and coats harkened to the '60s. The Moschino lady is one who still loves dressing up the way she did in high school, stealing her chic mother's clothes and wearing them all at once in a jubilant mix. It's never too serious, which is why it continues to be so much fun.

Trends: Military, ski, '60s, feathers, ruffles, quilting.
Colors: Purple, royal blue, pink, red, yellow.
Key Piece: The fun dresses - one in pink ruffles, the other in blue feathers - for a party, military jackets.
