On Our Radar: Women Choose Shoes Over Bags

Can it be? Have shoes replaced bags as the hottest fashion item? If so, I'm not complaining. I have a growing collection of bags, but as of late, I've become quite bored of the options out there. But the Spring shoe department, which houses such rarities as this MIu Miu Cutout Harlequin Bootie ($890), is a whole different story.

It seems the trend of naming bags after models and celebrities is now being used on footwear. Giambattista Valli has created a Victoria shoe in honor of Mrs. Beckham, while Calvin Klein made a Suri shoe, named after Tom Cruise's daughter. Also, unusual designs and materials used on bags is now being used on footwear. If that's not proof enough, department store Harvey Nichols has reported a 15 percent rise in shoe sales this season and a higher demand for runway heels. Adversely, a recent survey has forecast an 18 percent drop in handbag sales. It's also being predicted that women will soon spend more money on expensive shoes than bags. Do you buy it?

Celebrity Style: Alexa Chung Sports Country Style

Alexa Chung was spotted today busily shopping with her Miu Miu tote on one arm and a Stella McCartney protective clothing case over the other. She was sporting a Bedale Barbour jacket which is one of the hotly tipped items for Spring/Summer particularly for the festival season. I'm not entirely sure that it's appropriate for citywear, what do you think? Are you ready for the revival of the Barbour jacket? Maybe the Queen really is your new style icon! Fab Ad: Miu Miu Spring '08

I think I just found the inspiration for my bedroom . . . or shall I say, boudoir? As a long time fan of the purple and red color combo, the dark shadows and moody feel of the latest crop of Miu Miu ads definitely intrigues. I am also a long time fan of Kirsten and think she is the perfect fit for the brand. The only thing I'm not thrilled about here is the actual clothes. This was one of my least favorite collections of Spring - a hodgepodge of French maids, Pierrots, harlequin and Playboy bunnies - and I ultimately felt the clothes weren't very wearable. But, Kristen wears the Spring offerings very well and with a subtle suggestion of kink. Miu Miu, reconsidered.

What is Fab's Achilles’ heel? Gimme shoes! Designer, contemporary, cheapy, high, flat, boots, ladylike, utilitarian, edgy - I want it all. This Spring is going to be a dangerous one because the shoe offerings are a plenty and a fabulous. I already touched on the unexpected but very cool boots of Spring, and a storm of gladiators is coming to cover many a feet come warmer days. As for the rest? Like this oddball from Marc Jacobs (pictured), they'll knock your socks off.
