For Fall 2011, Miuccia Prada drew inspiration from the '20s and the '60s, offering dropped-waist dresses, wide-belted big-button coats, sheer shifts, and Mondrian-esque block prints all topped off with colorful python-print, knee-high boots. And despite the unfussy nature of the silhouettes, glamorous touches via vibrant fur, the aforementioned python, and colorful paillettes made the ensembles truly unique. Prada is jumping on the designer-book bandwagon. The Italian house has unveiled a 706-page book, titled Prada, that highlights the house's 30 years of fashion, art, and more. "For Prada, fashion, luxury and style go beyond producing an infinity of clothes and shoes, so the book wants to illustrate the various aspects through which Prada expresses itself," said Patrizio Bertelli, chief executive officer of Prada Group. The tome, which retails for about $150, will hit Prada stores, select bookstores, and Prada.com.

For Spring '10, Miuccia Prada concocted a collection inspired by sea and surf. However, it wasn't your typical beach-inspired line. “Beach and antiquity - high and low - it is all the same,” said Miuccia Prada. “It is supposed to be an ironic take - sometimes nostalgic, for a contemporary take on antiquity for those who don’t understand the beauty of the past.” Well said, Miuccia.

Red-lipped models, complete with tousled ponytails, exuded a youthful innocence as they walked down the runway in a variety of crisp shorts - ranging from knicker-inspired, to long and lean, and even a couple of biker shorts - structured jackets, and embellished tops adorned with palm trees, in some darker hues for the print-challenged. But it was really the crystal-laden pieces that stole the show. These shimmering objects, via dresses and shoes, dazzled with every step. Definitely unique, and with a little modifying, like adding a slip underneath the dress, icons such as Ashley Olsen or Diane Kruger would surely take the bait.

Fab Flash: Prada, Calvin Klein Reveal Celebrity Guests to Costume Institute Gala

As the biggest singular fashion event of the year approaches - The Met's Costume Institute Gala on May 5 - designers have already started to announce which celebrities they are bringing as guests.

Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein revealed that he is dressing Fergie and Liv Tyler - no surprise there, since he's brought Liv to the event the past couple of years. He hinted that Fergie and Liv weren't his only two guests, but wouldn't name any more names.

Meanwhile, Miuccia Prada has invited recent Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton and actress Elizabeth Banks to accompany her.

Remember, this year the Gala's theme is superheroes, so it will be interesting to see how much the attendees play into that. I can't wait!

Fab Ad: Prada Fall/Winter 2007

Perennial Prada favorite Sasha Pivovarova is joined by newbies Irina Kulikova and Anabela Belikova in this season's ads. All three girls get the pleasure of showcasing the crazy astroturf textures and 60s shag carpet colors which happen to be Miuccia's whims o' the moment. On top of all that, they act the part of some Hitchcockian/Stepford Wive crossbreed, with their winged liquid eyeliner and blank washed-out faces.

Creepy as it may be, I can't help but love all the fringe, furriness, ombre, and creepy stares that come with this collection and these ads. What can I say, Miuccia has a soft spot in my heart.

This year's success of the Costume Institute's Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit left us wondering how the MET was going to top the record-breaking show. WWD just reported that the Costume Institute’s Harold Koda and Andrew Bolton have chosen to showcase the work of Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli for its next exhibit in Spring 2012. Lucky magazine got the scoop on an exciting new development at Prada. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!
Hot on the fiery heels of her acclaimed Spring 2012 show, Miuccia Prada has another trick up her sleeve. The renowned designer is launching a capsule collection of jewelry this November.

The line will include a full range of bracelets, necklaces, brooches, and rings created from the brand's trademark materials like fur, gems, and animal skins. WWD reports that "the different styles span from a rock ’n’ roll glossy crocodile bracelet to opulent, sparkly pendants embellished with colored gems or resin roses." Prices will start at $488.

Car designs decorated leather pencil skirts and matching bandeau tops, day dresses, and varsity jackets. For those less driven by the Grease Lightening influence, there were also pretty lace and crochet jackets, silky separates, and gorgeous accordian pleats. Miuccia Prada revved it up in more ways than one for Prada's Spring collection in a runway show, named "Women and Car Engines," adorned with giant toy cars referenced to show the Italian man's (stereotypical) love for women and cars. Only Prada can show this meaning in a sweet '50s-themed story showing diaphanous high-waist pleated skirts paired with bandeau tops, lace-print car coats, and varsity jackets. Furthering her car theme were adorable retro car prints - think Chevrolets and Cadillacs - and flame-whipped patterns splayed across skirts and blouses. We especially loved Miuccia's leather pencil skirt adorned with an old-school automobile. Meanwhile, rhinestone-embellished one-piece swimsuits added a sultry touch to her sweet and sexy theme. "Cheerful and witty" was how Miuccia described her collection, and we couldn't agree more. More details from the amazing collection below.
