Model of the Week: Karolina Kurkova

Welcome to the fifth installment of Model of the Week. I've written a five question interview that I have conducted with several models to share with you. The questions are both fun and beauty related and will always stay the same. To see the rest of the Model of the Week posts click here.

Here's a little history about Karolina Kurkova. She was born on February 28, 1984 in Decín, Czech Republic. She was discovered when an admiring friend sent some pictures of her to a modeling agency in Prague. She immediately booked a runway show, a commercial, an ad campaign and then traveled to Milan to explore the international world of fashion.

It was in Milan where she met Miuccia Prada who signed her to a Prada contract at the tender age of 15. She then met Vogue editors in NY, where she now lives.

Karolina has signed deals with: Yves Saint Laurent, Victoria's Secret, Tommy, Valentino, Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta and Balenciaga.

She is one of the most renowned models in the world. In 2001, she graced the cover of Vogue and in 2002 she was granted the "Model of the Year" title at the 2002 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards.

She is quite accustomed to fame though. Her Dad is Josef Kurka - a former star basketball player. There is a reason this beauty has become a shining star. She is sweet, down to earth, driven and extremely articulate. Best of luck to you Karolina!

BELLA: What is your secret to beautiful skin and hair?
KK: I have a steam shower in my apartment, so I steam my face everyday. For my hair, I swear by Victoria's Secret So Sexy Nourishing Shampoo for Dry/Damaged Hair, $9.50, and Victoria's Secret So Sexy Nourishing Conditioner for Dry/Damaged hair, $9.50. It smells so good and it gives my thin hair a lot of volume.

BELLA: What is the one product you can't live without?
KK: Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Makeup - Perfect Lipstick in Whisper, $12. It's a pinkish brown color - I love it.

BELLA: What is your guilty pleasure?
KK: Sweets. I really like chocolate and One Lucky Duck RAW Ice Cream in chocolate, strawberry or vanilla. It's dairy free, made from cashews and coconut meat - so it doesn't upset my stomach and it tastes delicious.

BELLA: What is your favorite drugstore product?
KK: Zip lock bags. If I don't have them in my house, I go nuts. I like to be organized and those zip locks really keep me organized; especially when I travel. I keep my makeup, jewelry, lingerie...everything in them!

BELLA: Happiness is...
KK: Being healthy, being alive! I feel really lucky to have family and friends - so it makes me happy to spend my time with them.

A Few Fab Words With Heidi Klum(!)

Heidi Klum. Where to begin? From the beginning, I suppose. German born Klum is no longer just a model. She is a model, actress, TV presenter, fashion designer, television producer, singer, wife and mother. No wonder Klum continues to inspire so many. She started as a model and Victoria's Secret model - that body, that face - and worked her way into our hearts hosting Project Runway and embarked on fashion projects along the way, i.e., her jewelry line and collaborating with Jordache.

Now married to Seal and the mother of three, Heidi always has a smile on her face. That is what inspires me. She is hardworking, doesn't take things for granted and seems to be a very happy person. And so, we are so excited we got an exclusive interview with the multi-tasking model! Be sure to also read her beauty interview with Bella.

Can you describe your personal style and how it has evolved over the years?

I have always had a very unique sense of style. I love bright colors and bold prints that make a statement. When I was young I was all about be-dazzling! I would be-dazzle everything from jean jackets to bags. That love for glitz and glam has stayed with me over the years but has matured. In my everyday life comfort is very important. I love throwing on a classic pair of jeans with a cozy tank and flip flops, especially when running around with the kids.

Tell us about the creative process for creating your jewelry line.

I don’t have a formal technique for designing jewelry, I just let myself become inspired by everything around me - vintage designs, trips, etc. The jewelry also reflects my personal style and the pieces I love to wear.

You have a lot of fashion projects at the moment: jewelry, sunglasses, fragrance and Birkenstocks. Is there one that particularly satisfies you the most? If so, why?

I have always been a very creative person and love having a channel to express my ideas whether it is designing products for a label or just painting with my children. I don’t have a favorite project but my jewelry line is definitely the most extensive. I have a very high end collection that I design with Mouawad, a silver collection for QVC, and a Top Model and Project Runway collection based on pieces I have worn in the shows. I also just started selling on Skymall (a guilty traveling pleasure of mine).

Is there a Heidi Klum clothing line in the future?

I just created a 15-piece capsule collection for Jordache. It was inspired by some of my favorite pieces from my closet. I wanted all the designs to be comfortable mixed with a bit of sexiness.

What new and exciting things can we expect on the next season of Project Runway?

Project Runway is always a surprise. You never know what is going to happen next and that is what keeps the show fresh and interesting. Last year was a great season so we are definitely continuing to push the envelope with design challenges. You’ll just have to wait and tune in!

Fab Flash: Coco Rocha, E! News Correspondent

We're used to seeing Coco Rocha's lovely red locks swaying down the runway at New York Fashion Week, but this time around, don't be surprised to see the model conducting backstage interviews with designers, celebrities, and models. Rocha has been enlisted by E! News to keep us entertained with behind-the-scenes goodies at Fashion Week. "Last night I was in the front row of Miss Sixty. We kept trying to make the girls laugh," said Rocha. "It worked really well." Don't fret Coco fans; the redhead will also be making an appearance on the catwalk.

A Few Fab Words With Ralph Lauren Model Ubah Hassan

Not too long ago I told you about Ralph Lauren model Ubah Hassan, but how about some more? The 21-year-old was discovered in Canada at the age of 17 and shortly thereafter signed on with Click Model Management. Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani cast her in the magazine's first-ever black issue in 2008, then Mr. Lauren handpicked her to be his Spring '09 face. Lucky girl. I recently caught up with the Somalian beauty about her favorite designers, the modeling industry, and personal style.

Who is your favorite designer right now
Ralph Lauren.

What are three words that describe your personal style?
Daytime: comfortable and relaxed. Evening: elegant and sexy.

What is one destination you still need a stamp for on your passport?
Paris.

Best thing is meeting people from all over the world and learning their cultures. Worst thing is working after the redeye or shooting abroad with jet lag.

Model of the Week: Jarah Mariano

Sports Illustrated model Jarah Mariano is the epitome of exotic; she's a gorgeous blend of Hawaiian, Korean, and Chinese. You may recognize her face from Victoria's Secret, Armani Exchange, Roxy, Abercrombie & Fitch, and H&M ads; it's a face you don't forget. But then again, her body is pretty unforgettable, too. It took the spotlight in both the latest SI swimsuit issue, as well as the 2008 edition. I recently chatted with the model - who at the age of 15 was discovered in Santa Monica - about bikinis, traveling, and fashion.

Three words that describe your personal style?

Bohemian, vintage, and natural.

What is the best and worst thing about modeling?

Living in a fantasy land.

What is one destination you still need a stamp for on your passport?

Halong Bay in Vietnam looks intriguing.

I'm not much of a fashionista but I like Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen. Stella is sleek and light, but prominent. McQueen is edgy, bright, and innovative.

What was the coolest thing about being in Sports Illustrated?

Being in it!

What is your favorite bikini style and how many swimsuits do you own?

I own way too many and the list grows. I just bought five more last night. I like colors and nothing too bulky, as I can tan quicker and won't have those major lines!

Fab's Fashion Night Out!

While Pop was chatting it up with Gwen Stefani, I was doing what Fashion's Night Out was supposed to do - shopping! And gallivanting and celeb-spotting. You ready for my FNO adventure? My fellow fashion junkie friend and I started at Bergdorf Goodman where many fashion festivities were going on. Along the way I saw Rachel Bilson and Hayden waiting for their car in front of their hotel - I said hi to her but don't think she remembered me from when I interviewed her at Brian Reyes's show last Fashion Week. Moving on, as expected, there was a line to get into the department store, and it was a madhouse inside. I spotted jewelry designer Philip Crangi on the way in; it's hard to miss him, he looks like a pirate. We went straight to the shoe department where we fawned over Balmain boots, Giuseppe Zanotti lovers, awesome Alaia's, and Chanel flats. We quickly decided to leave the Bergdorf madness, but stopped at the M.C.L jewelry counter and said hi to model cutie Karlie Kloss on the way out.

We dashed down to Soho - my main goal of the night was the Intermix party where Sienna and Savannah Miller were hosting. The streets were alive with fashion! I had to pop into J.Crew (conveniently located across the street from Intermix) where I bought a super-cute long gold jeweled mushroom pendant.

Intermix was the place to be, with an ultra-fashion-y crowd and cool '80s tunes. Someone asked us if it was true Rihanna was supposed to come and before I knew it flashes were frenzied and there she was. We were actually in line for the bathroom when this happened and her and her posse came right towards us hence my super-close picture of her. She was incognito chic in a black wraparound-hooded dress and insane Grace Jones-esque shades and crimson lips. She posed for pics with a subtle smile on her face, the crowd was mesmerized. What a cool surprise! But where's Sienna?

There she is, sis in tow. But Sienna's hosting wasn't nearly as impressive as Rihanna's - the Millers sisters were outtie, they didn't even stay for champagne. Wha? We had a dinner date at Indochine at 11p.m., but along the way my friend bought a pair of fly boots from Steven Steve Madden and I scored a glam rockin' purple sequin blazer from Topshop. They aren't online, so I can't show you, but they're dope and we did our economy-stimulating part of the evening. Done and done.

Cruising into Indochine was unreal. Iman was in the first booth, post-bartending at Barneys Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were in the next, and models Lily Donaldson and Daria (Daria!) Werbowy were smoking cigarettes another booth away. Can you say awesome? We met up with fellow bloggers Faran from Nylon and Britt from Fashionista and gobbled up wonderful exotic fare. At one point I was in the bathroom with Iman and totally froze - her beauty is unreal. I headed home and had sweet dreams of fashion - goodnight Fashion's Night Out!

Karlie Kloss Reveals Her Model BFFs, Spring Must Haves, and Nudity

When I spy a tall, thin, blonde slowly gliding down the runway, head slightly tilted down, eyes focused, staring, I know exactly who it is: American model Karlie Kloss. The 16-year-old, who has recently taken up blogging on Modelfeed, has an unparalleled presence; she's cute-as-a-button approachable and intensely mysterious at the same time. I chatted with the modeling sensation about how she was discovered, her model posse, and what she's wearing these days.

How were you discovered?

Doing a charity fashion show in a mall in St. Louis for a friend who was battling cancer.

Has your ballet dance experience helped you on the catwalk or with your stamina?

Ballet has helped me express myself on photo shoots, and on the catwalk gives me the confidence to move with the fabrics.

Do you ever get embarrassed or uncomfortable with the nudity that modeling demands?

I am still 16 so my agency won't allow me to do nudity of any sort.

What's your most embarrassing modeling experience?

Tripping on the runway after closing the Pucci show in Milan.

How do you pass the time waiting around for the action to begin?

I just talk to my girlfriends, and of course BlackBerry my agent Stephen, and eat cookies in the corner with the girls.

Do you have model friends? If so, who?

Yes, I have lots. Jourdan Dunn is a close friend. I love Karmen Pedaru, and Catherine McNeil is cool to bake stuff with; they both live in my building. Abbey Lee is always cool to hang out with.

Favorite photo shoot destination?

I always wanted to shoot in Disney World. Probably shooting British Vogue with Patrick Demarchelier in an island off Sweden.

What are your Spring must haves?

White t-shirts, jeans, and whatever trade the designers will be throwing my way.

Tyra Banks Launches E-Zine Today!
