Behind The Seams: Model.Live Launch Party

Remember Madeline, Austria, and Cato from Vogue's new modeling reality show, Model.Live? The online show is now four episodes in, but last night at the Bowery Hotel in NYC, Vogue.TV and IMG hosted a celebration for the launch. Of course, the models and now-reality-starlets showed up looking gorgeous in different variations of LBDs. Cato (right) is my favorite; who's yours?

Actress Becki Newton was also there, as were famous models Jacquetta Wheeler, Kristy Hume, Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann, and socialite Olivia Palermo. As you can imagine, there was lots of posing, smiling, and socializing. Sounds like my kind of party.

On Our Radar: Vogue's Online Reality Modeling Show

America's Next Top Model just got some more competition. Vogue has teamed up with IMG's fashion and media divisions to produce an online reality modeling show titled Model.Live. Essentially, the show follows three models as they attend casting calls, strut the runways, and run through airports headed to New York, London, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks. The one with short hair, Madeline, looks like a cross between Agyness Deyn and Irina Lazareanu. The first of 12 eight-minute episodes will air August 19, here's a snippet of what's to come.

A new day-in-the-life-of-a-model show is on the horizon: Model.Live is debuting tomorrow night on Vogue.tv. We briefly mentioned it before, and here is another preview.

This show is different from the rest in that it's online and interactive - fans will be able to keep up with the daily happenings and communicate with the show's stars Cato, Madeline, and Austria via bebo.com. And this is cool: you'll be able to shop the models' clothes as they go from go-see, to agency, to the runway, and all the sidewalks in between. Ultimately, you can witness what it takes for a green model to be successful. All three gals have vastly different looks; my interest goes to Dominican Republic-born Austria, the youngest (and prettiest!). Check out the preview - mostly agents sitting around a table strategizing about the three hopefuls - and as of Aug. 22, new episodes will be broadcast every Friday for 12 weeks.

Battle of the Fall Ad Lineup: DKNY vs. Jones New York

Many models are forming lineups these days - luckily, not for the police, but rather for Fall's hottest ad campaigns. I've been noticing many lineup-style ads lately, and I quite like them because they cut out the frills and bring us face to face with the matter at hand: the creations. That, and the industry's most gorgeous models. DKNY's Fall '09 lineup - starring Bette Franken, Behati Prinsloo, Daiane Conterato, Anna Gushina, and more - is structured, with the girls standing sturdy, shoulder to shoulder. Jones New York's lineup with Anja Rubik, Caroline Trentini, Isabeli Fontana, and Liya Kebede is more friendly and lively. Both showcase the clothes flawlessly, but which ad lineup wins?

2010 Spring New York Fashion Week: Vena Cava

Vena Cava always does things a little differently. Both in show presentation and clothing inspiration; that's why they are a growing fashion force. Vena Cava was at Milk Studios - where numerous designers are showing this time around - and I arrived promptly on time because I heard rumblings the designers were doing a runway show in lieu of their usual presentation style. They did both. It started as a runway show, models perched themselves around and on ladders, then it turned into a presentation - the best of both worlds. The Fiery Furnaces performing live were an awesome accompaniment to the modern, exotic collection. From marbelized prints, to laser cuts, to hints of skin, Vena Cava loves to play. But in a very sophisticated manner. A dress may be baby doll, but it's far from goo-goo-gaa-gaa in a sexy black-rayon jersey and metal safety-pin camisole. The palette was moody - black, brown, grays - but a punchy orange saved it from somber. The orange cupra jersey asymmetrical dress made my heart skip. Lisa and Sophie, the hotshot design duo, continue to experiment with separates. Dresses are always unique, but skirts, jumpsuits, shorts, busters, leggings, and tees were thrown into the mix. Accessories weren't forgotten; stylist Kate Young completed looks with Persol shades, Robert Clergerie shoes, and Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. jewels. Vena Cava - where there's smoke, there's fire.

Tyra Banks Launches E-Zine Today!

Tyra Banks has added yet another aspect to her media empire: an online magazine. The former Super, who already produces her namesake talk show and America’s Next Top Model, will be be launching e-zine, Tyra: Beauty Inside and Out, on TyraBanks.com, today at 5 p.m. Topics will cover fashion, beauty, healthy living, and relationships. The site will also contain exclusive, behind-the-scene footage and photos from ANTM and The Tyra Show.
