Moe: Pet of the Week

Moe totally sums up how I'm feeling right now so how could I not pick him to be our pet of the week?! This one-year-old Boxer is the proud pet of girlA. She says, not only does he think he's as human as we are, but he's 80 pounds of goof and love! Awwww, how sweet! Moe loves to climb up in this chair when the sun is in that magical spot and bask in the light. Then, he promptly falls asleep (although sometime between sitting up and snoozing off, he makes it into a laying down position) . . . hmmm, I wonder if I could fall asleep up against my monitor? Hayden Panettiere looks so cute in her black and white Alice + Olivia dress at the It's a Mall World premiere. The entire ensemble - from the cinched wristlet to the peep-toe pumps - is very age and event appropriate. Other young Hollywood starlets should take note! And it looks like Hayden's also jumped on the summer braids trend. Love her!

Would You Admit to Having a Favorite Child?

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe . . . How do you choose? Way back at the beginning of the year, Kate Tietje wrote a post for Babble titled "Mom Confession: I Think I Love My Son a Little Bit More." While some parents praised her for her candor, most took her to task for her admission. My thoughts immediately returned to her article while watching Barbara Walters's 18th annual 10 Most Fascinating People special last night. Though Walters's decision to put the Kardashian family on her list at all is worthy of its own post, an exchange between Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim and their momager Kris caught me off guard:

Barbara: Who is your mom’s favorite?
Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim (simultaneously): Kim!
Kris: You know, I think it seems -
Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim (simultaneously): Just say it!
Kris: OK, yes, she’s my favorite. (Pause.) No, she’s not!
Khloe: Whoever gives her the most percentage rights [is her favorite].
Kris: No, that’s not true. Just the most attention.

As parents we often strive do things fair and square among our children, but it doesn't always work out that way. Sure, sometimes one tot ends up with a few more goldfish in her bowl than the other, but would you ever openly admit that you loved one child more than another?

The Three Stooges Trailer Brings Back Everything but the Laughs

Well, the Farrelly brothers' long-awaited update of The Three Stooges is here, and it's full of nyucks, pratfalls, and attempts to make the characters relevant. Sean Hayes, Will Sasso, and Chris Diamantopoulos star as Larry, Curly, and Moe, but the actors come off looking more like three guys who dressed up as the trio for Halloween. The classic Stooges bits also feel like they're nothing but part of their impressions, especially Sasso doing Curly's "woop-woop-woop" and high-pitched voice.

Even though the trailer is mostly a collection of gags, there is a story: the guys try to save the orphanage they grew up in, only to end up as stars of a reality show. If you think that sounds lame, just wait until you see the cringe-worthy jokes, like a nun in a sexy bathing suit, or the Stooges' inability to understand what an iPhone is. The injection of technology is just one of the ways this movie looks desperate to make the characters modern, but it hits the ultimate low with the appearance of the Jersey Shore cast. I love classic comedy, but The Three Stooges doesn't look like it's going to cause any sort of triumphant revival for the trio. Watch the preview for yourself after the jump.

Reader Recipe: Pumpkin-Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Community member girlA loves making vegan treats, but she doesn't limit her baking skills to human food. Check out this tasty treat for pooches she shared over in the YumSugar Community!

These are similar to the other dog treats I made, but this time I added pureed pumpkin. I meant to add some fresh parsley and mint, but completely forgot-next time, I guess. We’ll just have to continue to deal with Moe’s stinky breath until it’s time to make more treats. Since commercial treats are full of artificial ingredients, preservatives and animal products, we prefer to make his own treats. It’s especially convenient since Moe has been working on his Canine Good Citizen training so that he can be a therapy dog. Lots of training means lots of treats, so I feel better about loading him up with these and not the gross store-bought ones. I also froze the remaining pumpkin puree to use the next time I make treats. Get the recipe at my vegan blog, Epicurean Vegan!

Pet Community: All-Natural, Vegan Dog Treats

GirlA is always sharing her favorite vegan recipes in The Dairy Free Diva Recipe Exchange, and to celebrate her cute pooch turning 4, she made Moe a vegan treat.

Have you ever looked at the ingredients in some commercial dog treats? They are packed pull of artificial flavors, colors, preservatives and animal products. They’re pricey, too. Save your money and your dog’s health by making your own-they’re so simple. Our dog, Moe (an 80-lb lap dog) LOVES peanut butter and as much fun as it can be to watch him try to lick it off the roof of his mouth, biscuit treats are a much simpler and less messy alternative. These would be cute cut into the shape of dog biscuits, but since we usually only give him small treats at a time, making these bite-sized ones were ideal. The recipe is from All Natural Dog Treat, offering lots of different recipes, including a grain-free peanut butter recipe. These treats will keep at room temperature for 2-3 weeks, or 6 weeks in the refrigerator. They are also freeze-able and . . . Moe-Approved.
