Space-Saving Decor Tips For Kids' Rooms From Design Expert Kelly Edwards

We recently caught up with design expert Kelly Edwards, who has been featured on HGTV's Design on a Dime and Style Network's Tacky House for her scrappy style and ability to transform ordinary rooms into incredible spaces, even on a budget. Kelly's decorating and design expertise apply to any room in the house, but we were eager to hear her ideas specifically for lil ones, and she didn't disappoint! Read on for five of Kelly's best tips for making your kids' rooms organized, creative, and playful spaces that can grow along with them.

Kelly Edwards's 5 Pieces of Design Advice That Every Mom Can Put to Use

On Space Saving and Storage: Look for furniture pieces that your kids are going to grow into. Stay away from the typical bins and baskets, and instead opt for some really cool furniture for a more put-together look. Whether it's a midcentury modern credenza that's been in your family for years or a thrift-shop find, not all furniture has to scream "kids!"
On Coordinating With the Rest of Your Home: Your kids' rooms are where you can really have some fun. Visitors will judge your home on your kitchen and your bathroom. They're not the ones spending time in the bedrooms, you and your children are. Turn their rooms into places for creativity, and don't be afraid to try out that fun paint color.
On Trends: Remember, it's just $20 or so for a can of paint, so wall colors are a great place to try out a trend like neon. If that scares you, get a giant canvas, and paint that instead of the wall. Tack their artwork up on it. It'll add a splash of color to the room without your having to worry about repainting.
On Making the Most of Small Spaces: Look for ottomans with removable tops - you can stash everything in there! In a nursery that doubles as a guest room, put a twin bed in there along with your crib, but be sure to buy an upholstered box spring with drawers built in, so that you have extra storage without the boxes and bins showing.
On DIY With Kids: A fun DIY project that your kids can partake in is to find an old TV armoire and paint it with chalkboard paint, which you can either buy at the store or make yourself by mixing a cup of latex paint with two tablespoons of unsanded tile grout. The armoire becomes a great storage piece, and the chalkboard paint turns it into a piece of furniture that they can really have fun with.

They've been called "the coolest family in the world," but for Bob and Cortney Novogratz, just being family is enough. The stars of HGTV's Home by Novogratz and mom and dad to seven kids ranging from 3 to 15 have made family their mantra and are now putting it on their designs. The founders of Sixx Design have partnered up with CB2 for a line of products, aptly named FAMILY, that reflect their signature style. According to Bob, "We came up with the idea of FAMILY a long time ago. Maybe six, seven years ago we got some light boxes and made the letters ourselves. We have a big family, so we thought we should really create a family brand, because we didn't feel like there was anything out there like that."

The first piece, a colorful rug emblazoned with the word FAMILY that appeared on the show last season, will be available at CB2 stores and online in July (starting at $399). We were invited to the Novogratzes' home along NYC's Hudson River as the family posed with the rug for CB2's Summer catalog. With Justin Bieber and Fun blasting on the stereo, Cortney negotiated her teenagers' wardrobe issues, separated bickering twins, and goaded all seven kids into smiling for the camera (and yes, plenty of jellybeans and promises to play with her iPhone were used). Between shots, Bob discussed the collaboration with CB2 and decorating with kids.

Miranda Kerr got in front of the camera for a photo shoot in Sydney on Friday. She showed off her abs in a short top and oversized skirt as she struck a variety of poses. Miranda's been in her native Australia for the last week and has been juggling work and family during her stay. She and son Flynn met up with her mom and grandmother last weekend, but the star was solo to hit the red carpet for the Style Awards, where she donned a sexy gown. Miranda is also looking hot on the cover of InStyle Australia's June issue. She opened up to the publication about her personal style, which she says is inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Angelina Jolie.

Charlize Theron Breaks From SWATH to Talk Motherhood and Dating in InStyle

Charlize Theron got glamorous for the cover of InStyle's June issue, which hits newsstands this Friday. She's currently in the middle of a whirlwind press tour for Snow White and the Huntsman and hit the red carpet for the film's London premiere yesterday. Charlize told us she's excited to share the movie with fans though in the magazine she touched more on her personal life including dating and her newly adopted son Jackson. Here's more from Charlize Theron in InStyle:

On getting older: "I see my face and my body changing, and they’re all changes I’m OK with. Part of me understands I may not be in front of the camera forever, and maybe not just because of age, but because of me. I wouldn’t have started my own production company if I didn’t feel that way."
On adopting son Jackson: "Motherhood was something I always knew I wanted to experience. What a great opportunity for someone like me who wants to have a family. I can only hope to be 10 percent of the mom mine was to me. She encouraged me to be confident and enjoy life. That’s what I want for my son. So far I’m not surprised by anything about being a mom. It’s all pretty great-but that’s what I expected."
On dating: "I’m always open to a relationship, but I’m not putting those feelers out there now. I’m not unhappy with it, but I’m not like, 'Oh, this is so much better than when I was in a relationship.' I am a relationship girl. That’s kind of just how I’m made."
