The melding of art and fashion is in full effect — hello, Louis Vuitton and Murakami — but I don't know how I feel about having photos of war protesters wrapped around my neck. Ralph Lauren and Nautica alumna Nili Lotan thinks of the past when designing for the future. Memories of her childhood during the turbulent late 60s and early 70s provoked the Israeli-born designer to weave printed silk keffiyehs, Palestinian embroidery, and silkscreened war protesters into her Spring 2008 collection.
In addition to those striking symbols, Lotan rounds her collection out with lots of silk charmeuse, plunging necklines, and bohemian prints to give off the feel of the sixties-meets-seventies inspiration.
