The Lighter Than Ever Lip

Nude lips have been a hot beauty trend over the last two seasons, but from the looks of all the new 2007 Spring makeup collections, the latest and greatest nude lip is lighter than ever. The vast array of pale beige glosses seem like they would only flatter olive complexions, but with all of the amazing bronzers available, anyone can achieve a super sexy light lip! NARS Lip Gloss in Striptease, $23, is a light ivory/cream candlelight color that adds oodles of shine to a flawless face with a smoky or bold eye. This gloss can help to balance out any bold feature for that matter.

You can also add some luminizer to your cheeks and this neutral color will give you even more pop! Striptease can be worn alone or on top of any lipstick that you'd like to lighten and brighten.

ModelCo Lip Lights Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Pink Sea Shell, $25, is a glamorous and high shine gloss with an LED light that glows as you withdraw the applicator. It looks like Go Light on My Lips has some stiff competition! The gloss also has a side panel mirror for easy application and the battery claims to be long lasting.

Estee Lauder High Gloss in Quartz, $16, is a nude colored ultra shiny lip gloss with a hint of sparkle. There is nothing bland or flat about this beautiful and smooth shade. Quartz is actually being relaunched along with a couple other oldie but goodies.

Nude Lips With a Sexy Shine

As both a lip balm addict and a lip gloss lover, I have a hard time deciding which gooey stuff should go on my lips at any given moment. Even if I want a nude look for my lips, plain old lip balm doesn't give me the polished look I need. For that reason, I am currently obsessed with C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine, made by the Greenwich Village apothecary brand that's sold at Bath & Body Works. I love this stuff for so many reasons, starting with the super-high-gloss finish that makes even nude lips look nicely made up. Better yet, the moisturizing shine feels more like lip balm than lip gloss (note: kissing partners will appreciate this), and the tingly, minty flavor (advertised as a breath freshener) doesn’t conflict with my gum. Dolce and Gabbana's makeup muse did some promoting at Selfridges department store in London earlier today. She usually plays up her sex-kitten persona, but here she opted for a ladylike look by Dolce and Gabbana. The pretty floral blouse is tempered by a long and lean pencil skirt and finished with a pair of nude peep-toe pumps. But it wouldn't be Scarlett without some sexy - her red lips help achieve just that.

Lip Gloss Lament

As you know, I love lip gloss, but the addiction is also the source of one of my biggest pet peeves: leaky lip-gloss caps. This is a vexing problem that plagues one of my favorite products: the shimmery nude NARS Lip Gloss in Sandpiper, which is available for $23 here. No matter how much I wipe off the excess lip gloss before applying it, a little bit of it always oozes out when I put the cap back on, turning the tube into a smeary mess. Back in my make-up bag, the lip gloss ends up getting pink sparkly goo all over everything.

But really, when I'm paying more than $20 for a tiny tube of lip gloss, it is too much to ask for a cap that doesn't leak? It's so much trouble to contain the mess I'm considering ditching the gloss, but I love the color oh so much! Do you guys have this problem? If so, share your own lip-gloss gripes below.

1. Stained berry lips are the number one beauty trend for Fall. Prime your lips with either concealer or a wax-based lip balm to stop color from bleeding around your lip line, then line your lips in either a matching berry color or a nude liner. If you want a softer look in berries or red, dab on color like Benefit Benetint and use your fingers to pat and spread. This will result in a more sheer, less fussy look.

3. Luminosity and highlighters can do wonders to add a sunny radiance to pale autumn complexion. Blend them into your foundation, or wear them alone to accentuate your cheekbones and brow bone.

Brilliant Lip Gloss

Chantecaille Brilliant Lip Gloss is so ultra-shiny, I felt like it made my eyes sparkle and my teeth look whiter. That's because it contains something "micro-spheres of vegetal polysaccarides," and while I'm not quite sure what those are, I do know that they made my lips hydrated and sexy, and my lips looked plumper without any stinging.

This is Chantecaille's debut lip gloss with a wand-and a brilliant wand, if I may add. It's actually a generous brush, as opposed to a sponge or a few measly bristles, which makes for very even application.
