Cruise 2008: Oscar de la Renta

Womenswear Designer of The Year, Oscar de la Renta has surely kept his favorite customers - the ladies who lunch and Anna Wintour - happy with this collection. There are plenty of fitted suits, floppy hats, party dress, and polka dots to go around.

I think my favorite look has to be this coral taffeta ruffled number, left, which is surprisingly similar to a J. Crew dress that I've had my eye on recently. There are a few misses in the collection - a black and white polka-dotted dress with frills and a basket-weave pattern near the bottom comes to mind. But I've got to give Mr. de la Renta credit where credit is due: he does do the monochrome knee-length party dress reminiscent of those SJP wore in Sex and the City very well.

Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia aren't just partners in life, they're also a designing duo. Since 2005, their creations have caught the attention of many including Oscar de la Renta, Yves Saint Laurent, and Derek Lam, and I can see why. Now, the two have created their own ready-to-wear label, Sachin and Babi For Ankasa, filled with subtle glamour and lots of style. Their unique way of designing casually luxurious clothing appeals to every girl looking for a little shimmer without going over the top - that's me. For Cruise '10, the collection delves into a happy matrimony of sportswear and sass, offering crisp yet feminine cuts embellished with metallic finishes and intricate details. Love it all.

2009 Cruise: Oscar de la Renta

If anyone knows how to make resort as luxurious as can be it's Oscar de la Renta. In a kaleidoscope of colors, there were enough day dresses, crisp separates, grownup trousers, and ball gowns to keep the Upper East Side content for a while. There was a bit of volume play with sleeves as well as super puff, super fabulous, ball gowns. Oscar continues to preach the sassy one-shoulder style. Bags were structured and jewelry was ethnic and nature inspired. Oscar's vivid prints always win me over as well as his strategic - never overdone - placement of bows. Add to that lace and ruching and you have a seamless paean to the cruise ~~Gods~~ Goddesses.

On Our Radar: Women Choose Shoes Over Bags

Can it be? Have shoes replaced bags as the hottest fashion item? If so, I'm not complaining. I have a growing collection of bags, but as of late, I've become quite bored of the options out there. But the Spring shoe department, which houses such rarities as this MIu Miu Cutout Harlequin Bootie ($890), is a whole different story.

It seems the trend of naming bags after models and celebrities is now being used on footwear. Giambattista Valli has created a Victoria shoe in honor of Mrs. Beckham, while Calvin Klein made a Suri shoe, named after Tom Cruise's daughter. Also, unusual designs and materials used on bags is now being used on footwear. If that's not proof enough, department store Harvey Nichols has reported a 15 percent rise in shoe sales this season and a higher demand for runway heels. Adversely, a recent survey has forecast an 18 percent drop in handbag sales. It's also being predicted that women will soon spend more money on expensive shoes than bags. Do you buy it?

Cruise 2008: Carolina Herrera

Carolina Herrera, like Oscar de la Renta, keeps the country club-going ladies who lunch well-clothed throughout the cruise season. She interpreted the name of the season a bit literally - there's a sailor dress, as well as a poolchair-printed fabric used throughout the collection.

But I have to give it to her, she did stick to her staples: the dress, the pencil skirt, the swing coat. I have to say - this is not my favorite collection from Carolina. Some of the detailing seems a little cheap, and the color palette doesn't seem really cohesive - it's a bit all over the place. But if you're a Herrera fan, I'm sure you will be pleased, regardless!
