A Fabby Halloween: Party Girl

H-h-hello? If you're going to be Parker Posey's best role in this mid-90 flick for Halloween you need to perfect her signature greeting. This film actually had a big influence in my moving to the big bad city of NYC in the late '90s. Mary's club kid life was so cool and quirky‚ or so I thought. She couldn't pay rent, but she did what any style maven does and struggled in style. From party girl to librarian, Mary stomped around in blobby platforms, bold hats, animal prints and themed getups. This is an easy costume to recreate - just raid your and your friends' ten-year-old clothes. Throw in some updated razzle-dazzle, put on some Deee-Lite and you're party girl ready.

A Fabby Halloween: Dazed and Confused Senior B*tch

I wasn't a Senior bitch in high school. I was so over high school by the time the fourth year rolled around. I was attending college parties and eagerly awaiting college. I wasn't a bitch, I was aloof.

But, after seeing Dazed and Confused I so wanted to be a Senior bitch. Parker Posey, who played Darla, was my favorite. If you haven't seen the movie add it to your Netflix now, but the scene pictured is when the Senior bitches haze the incoming Freshman girls. These four foxes spray and squirt the girls with raw eggs, flour, peanut butter and ketchup - yum! They do have the courtesy of driving them through a car wash to rinse them off.

This costume is easy and breezy; but learn this line, as Halloween is the only time you can say it without repercussions: "Wipe that face off your head bitch!" Go Darla!

I remember when I saw Dazed and Confused in the theater circa 1993 (15 years ago!) - I wanted to see it again, and again, and again. And, I have. It's probably one of my most worn out DVDs. I love the '70s and this Richard Linklater-directed film is a fun trip. The guys are hot, the girls are gorgeous, the music is groovy, and the cars are cool. All the story lines are exciting and the senior bitches are unforgettable. (One of my favorite Parker Posey roles, ever.) If all you want is a slow ride and to take it easy, soak up this not-too-cool-for-school wardrobe.

Fab Times at New York Fashion Week

You heard about my fashion week fumbles, but that's just a result of the stars not aligning quite right this time around. Though it's a fast and furious week, it's a fabulous week. I wouldn't have it be any different, really. Although having a town car take me from show to show would be a-mazing. One can dream right? Now that I've sifted through the runway looks, chosen my favorites, started a mental wish list, and gotten over my jet lag, I can share with you the Fab times at New York Fashion Week.

Most Fab show? This one is always a toughie; either Rodarte or Oscar de la Renta. Rodarte felt like I'd stepped into an alternate fashion universe, and Oscar was just so beautiful and rich. Oh! The Project Runway finalist show was pretty exciting too.

Hottest handbag sighting: Yves Saint Laurent Besace Flap Bag ($1,995).
Most Fab moment? Eating and drinking with Rachel Zoe at the DVF dinner; it was just really chill, and she was approachable and chatty.
Most awesome celebrity sighting? You can read all about the celebrity front rows on ELLE.com, but for me personally: Parker Posey at Cynthia Rowley. Seeing the original Party Girl was a very pleasant surprise.
Best swag: Fancy scented candles - because I absolutely refuse to spend $40 on a candle!
Item I really want to buy (and can maybe afford) come Fall: Anything by Shipley & Halmos.

Number of Anna Wintour sightings: numerous. Number of Carine Roitfeld sightings: only two.
Items I managed to buy between breaks (you know me): A pair of Juicy Fruit pink Guiseppe Zanotti python flats, two Marc by Marc Jacobs umbrellas, a gray woven leather Lauren Merkin clutch (on sale), and the perfect denim vest from H&M.
Three favorite shows overall, for the clothes: Bill Blass, Rodarte, and Proenza Schouler.

Not many people know about one of Parker Posey's best roles ever. In the film The House of Yes she plays a fabulous albeit slightly deranged girl with a dangerous obsession with Jackie Kennedy Onassis. She demands to be called Jackie O, wears sharp little suits and tops them off with pill box hats. She ends up being a lunatic, but she's fabulous along the way. No wonder she emulated the iconic first lady; Jackie O was the cat's meow.

The widow of U.S. president John F. Kennedy, Jackie O, as the tabloids dubbed her, remains an American icon of high style and grace. From the aforementioned pill box hats, to mini shift dresses, to caftans, to flats, and who can forget her biggie O sunglasses, she has forever put her stamp on style. As well, she was no doubt the most fashion forward first ladies. Not only was she buds with Valentino, Gucci named the "Jackie" bag after her which sold a record 6,000 pieces when relaunched in 1999.

Known for her elegant sophistication and her historical interest in the White House, in 1968, five years after JFK's death, she married wealthy Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. After Onassis' death in 1975 - sad! - Jackie settled in Manhattan and began working as an editor for Doubleday, a job she continued until her death in 1994. She was buried next to Kennedy in Arlington National Cemetery. May her style, grace and strength live on.
