Love It or Hate It? Wallpaper Sample Patchwork

After reading Summer Thornton's wallpaper tips Friday, I imagine some of you are feeling inspired to break out the wheatpaste and pick up a double-roll. If you have expensive taste like me (unfortunately), perhaps some of the wallpapers you lust after are still out of your budget. As Summer suggests, one option is to only wallpaper an accent wall. But I've just come across another that's worth considering.

In VTWonen magazine, this fuschia wall was covered with a border made from wallpaper samples. The benefit here is that wallpaper samples in general are free, or very inexpensive. This modern patchwork effect also creates a very statement-making look. Photographed by professionals here, I think it looks fabulous, even if it's not my style. But I have the feeling it would look more kitschy and novice than cool if I were to replicate it. Do you agree? Or do you just love it?

Clothed or bathed, Bar Refaeli is on my radar. Here she is posing in front of her dedicated Sports Illustrated jet wearing a poppin' patchwork leather jacket. I did some investigating and there's lots of cool patchwork prints right now. I prefer them with an exotic feel or a sci-fi edge, either would make the jet set happy.

Trend Alert: Perfectly Modern Patchwork

I have plenty of love for patchwork quilts. But my beloved quilts are going to start having patchwork envy if they get a load of these goods. After breaking free of the blanket, patchwork pieces and patterns are making their way onto all sorts of modern furniture silhouettes.

Come on everyone, it's time to join the patchwork party. This homespun look offers a fresh approach to hippie-inspired DIY using a hodgepodge of colorful tones and textures. Whitney Port is all legs in her country-inspired patchwork dress, seen left. Personally, I prefer mine bedazzled, but to each her own. Casa Shops: Squint

I've told you about patchwork chair makeovers and facelifts for the Egg chair, but by far, my favorite patchwork reupholsterer is the iconic and eccentric East London company Squint. Started by sculptor and painter Lisa Whatmough just three years ago, the company has grown by leaps and bounds, and now has a full range of items, from chairs and chaises to pendant lamps and mirrors.

read more. Of course, these designs, many of which are custom-made, aren't cheap. Sofas go for anywhere from $6,000 to $10,000 or more. If I had the spare change, I would definitely order one of these pieces. I'm particularly fond of the round pendant lamps, which are made of glass and covered in fabric. I have a feeling I might be able to DIY one myself, and might get on that project soon. Which designs do you like?

The Look for Less: Dolce & Gabbana Patchwork Snakeskin Bag

When I came across this Dolce & Gabbana Patchwork Snakeskin Bag ($3,995), I thought there could be no comparison. The colorful patchwork is nothing short of a masterpiece - worthy of being toted by Beyonce - but the heavy price left me hopeless and searching for something cheaper.

FabSugar recently issued a Trend Alert on modern patchwork in fashion. I've been noticing this same trend in the home world as well. Since it's easy to err on the side of hippie excess, I advise starting slowly with this trend, and then gradually adding more accessories if you like the way patchwork or paisley accents update your home. My advice? Go for unusual color combinations and updated, fresh hues. While I generally love earth tones, they're going to look too outdated in a patchwork pillow or floor rug. Tell me, do you already have patchwork and paisley in your home? If not, are you interested in adding some?
