Paul & Joe Spring 2012

Sophie Albou showed off a spirited Spring 2012 collection for Paul & Joe highlighting a mix of utilitarian and ethnic influences. While we're used to seeing one or the other, Albou was able to meld the two trends together pairing vibrant printed maxiskirts with silk button-up shirts, patent double-breasted blazers with tribal print bikini bottoms, and utility pants with sexy metallic knits. White fringed dresses and ponchos added a bohemian touch to the collection, while printed overalls provided the whimsy Albou is known for. For dressier occasions, there were a range of shimmery peasant dresses and maxidresses with sexy thigh-high slits. More details from the collection below.

No girl can resist Karen Walker's cool-girl style, and, as expected, the designer gave us more to look forward to with her Spring 2012 collection. Her "American Girl" theme, inspired by the classic flick Taxi Driver, showed gorgeous prints and soft tailoring. Described as "equal parts Betsey and Iris," the collection highlighted a mix of painterly florals, check, and polka-dot prints. Silhouettes were soft and louche as models - accessorized with the cutest printed turbans, sunglasses, patent loafers, and baseball caps - walked down the runway in a range of silk and crepe de Chine peplum blouses, strapless jumpers, shirt dresses, and pajama trousers. Jill Stuart Spring 2012

Jill Stuart debuted a super feminine, super gorgeous collection for Spring 2012. Using shades of pink, mint green, citron yellow, and pops of red, Stuart designed delectable sheer drop-waist pleated dresses, refined salmon-hued short suits, and peplum tops. Quilted skirts and jackets added a textural quality while bird and palm tree prints furthered the whimsical aesthetic of the collection. Down below, Stuart caught our attention with a bevy of amazing patent, metallic, and colorblock platform pumps. A beautiful collection that celebrated Spring's colors and dressing like girl. Peter Som is always an upbeat show, full of color and print, and Spring 2012 delivered that within a collection that suggests what might happen if Kate Middleton, Michelle Obama, and Rachel Bilson became mashed up into one fun-loving, totally polished lady with an edge. There was a '60s vibe in the colorblock coats with pointed collars, high-waist swimsuits, round sunglasses, and floral pantsuits. The women strutted down the runway in platform loafer pumps in seafoam green and patent leather white. Plastic floral necklaces sat atop prim crewneck sweaters and were paired with deliciously fun feathered skirts. Finally, there was a decidely sport edge via jackets in techno twill and lightweight anoraks that were designed to wear over skinny pants and heels.

Trends: Sporty, '60s, colorblocking, florals.
Colors: Red, yellow, teal, seafoam green, pink, blue, florals.
Key Piece:Floral pants (with matching jacket!), leather shift dress in yellow, the feather dresses.
Accessories: platform loafer pumps, plastic floral necklaces.
Who Would Wear It: Someone who wants to amp up their classic style with color and humor; think Michelle Obama or Rachel Bilson.

Look of the Day: Military Chic

Blake Lively Dons Juicy Colors For Gossip Girl

Summer fun is still flowing on the set of Gossip Girl, where Blake Lively donned one of the juicier color combos we've seen. Pairing a yellow and pink chiffon dress with a lime green Louis Vuitton patent leather bag and chunky retro-inspired necklaces in coral and mustard, Blake had a lot going on in the color spectrum. 2011 Fall New York Fashion Week: Karen Walker

For Fall 2011, Karen Walker took us to a '70s-era working-class disco hall in northern England called the Wigan Casino, an escape where the working class would trade uniforms for dancing clothes. Her collection reflected just that juxtaposition of joy and drudgery, although one wouldn't complain about wearing her sharply cut workwear-inspired docker's coat. The romantic, albeit rough 'n' tumble storyline unfolded in gauzy calf-skimming skirts worn with white tees and leather brogues, and tissue-thin racerback tanks paired with wide-leg wool trousers. The models wore ribbed knit skull caps, a reference to those 9-5 jobs, and the lace-up platforms and sporty leather brogues were the result of a collaboration with Beau Coops. The collection was filled with wardrobe staples you'll want for Fall: slouchy trousers, crisp jackets, flowy skirts, floral prints - particularly a gauzy blouse with silk chiffon detail, and those super cute brogues. Leave it to Karen Walker to find beauty in working-class toil.

Trends: Workwear, vinyl, femme rebel, menswear, longer hemlines, wide-leg trousers, florals.
Colors: Mustard yellow, orange, gray, navy, cream, black.

2011 Fall New York Fashion Week: Cynthia Rowley

Cynthia Rowley showed her Fall 2011 to a crowd of fans last night which included Julia Stiles (donning an awesome cobalt dress), Lauren Bush, and Alan Cumming. Star studded indeed, and her collection was just as shiny as models walked down the runway wearing glittery sweaters, sequined jackets, Asian-inspired floral prints, and graphic patterns. There was something for every personality: polished intarsia knit dresses for ladies who lunch, along with funkier pieces - our faves of the night - comprised of shearling blazers, loose graphic gowns, and even a slick velvet suit.

Trends: Shimmery sweaters, velvet suiting, Asian-inspired prints, graphic patterns, intarsia knits.
Colors: Mustard yellow, steel gray, olive, kelly green, deep blue, emerald.
Key Look: A quilted black patent leather jacket paired with an emerald green damask ball gown skirt.
