Style For Style: Peds Problems Be Gone!

A Fab reader has a dilemma and when a Fab reader has a dilemma, Fab runs to her rescue. Said reader's ped socks, like these Gap Classic Loafer Peds ($7), constantly show when she wears ballet flats. I have no doubt that more of you have this problem. I know I used to. She's searched far and wide for an inexpensive solution, but no luck yet . . . until now!

To see my solution to unsightly peds, read more

Like I said before, I used to have this problem all the time. Frustrated, one day I grabbed a pair of scissors, and started snipping my peds problems away. Here's how you can, too.

Grab a pair of scissors sharp enough to cut nylon.

Wear your ped socks.

Now put on the ballet flats you normally wear your peds with.

Sit down or get in a squatting position where you can easily reach your feet.

Take the scissors and start slowly (and carefully) cutting the parts of the peds that are visible with your ballet flats on. Snip until peds disappear.

Do the same for the other foot. Voilá!

Chances are your peds now have jagged lines from your amateur cutting; no one will see them so no need to be anal. You may need to buy a different pair for each ballet flat you own, but if most of yours are similar, you can get away with using the same peds for each one.

Fab Tip: Boots Minus Blisters

There are certain boots you can't wear with socks. You know, the ones that make your socks slip off with every step. I recently experienced this with a new pair of taupe suede boots that are the same length as these Bottega Veneta Cutout Suede Ankle Boots ($1,090). They're gorgeous, I love them, but I hate that I can't wear them with socks. Sporty ankle socks, Peds, even dress socks slide right off when I walk. I like to wear socks with boots because they prevent blisters on my toes and heels. Do you feel me? If so, there's a simple solution.

To hear how to prevent blisters with boots, read more

To prevent blisters when wearing boots without socks, invest in some Toe Tape ($4). Instead of using it on your skin, cover the area inside the boot that has been causing blisters with it. Use as much as you need, the more padding, the better. That way, when your feet rubs up against the blister-causing area, it will now rub against the soft toe tape and not harsh the material. I already tested this out with my taupe boots and it worked wonders.

Style for Style: Breaking in New Shoes

I recently purchased my first pair of Chanel flats and wore them for the first time yesterday! I promised myself I'd sport them every single day for a year, so as to make every penny I paid for them worth it. Well, after only wearing them once, my little toes got red blisters on them and I had to break my promise...temporarily! I went out and bought some ped socks, but it was too late. Plus, the Chanels don't look as pretty with those ugly not-socks sticking out from the sides!

Want to know how I solved my problem?, then read more

Last night I was pondering about how I am going to keep my promise to wear my Chanels every day for a year without them thrashing my toes. A little light bulb went off in my head and I decided to stick Spa Socks, $13, like these, in the front of my shoes. I let them stay overnight, and by the time I got up for work, they had stretched out enough so as not to stick to my toes! So the next time you get new flats and they are tight in the toe area, just stick some thick socks in them for a day and they'll be ready to grace your feet without killing them.
