Beyonce, One of the Best-Dressed Celeb of 2007?

People Magazine has voted Beyonce as "The Showstopper" on their best-dressed celebrity list of 2007. Sure, she gives it her all every single time she walks on that red carpet, but I'm not so sure she surpasses the more avant-garde stars out there (i.e. Diane Kruger, Cate Blanchett, Ashley Olsen, etc). Plus, have you seen her off the red carpet? I am dying to know: do you think Beyonce is one of the best-dressed celebs of 2007?

Walk Down Memory Lane - 80's Magazine Covers!

Just for fun (and because we know a lot of our readers have a thing for the 80s!), we thought we might take a quick trip down fashion's memory lane. Remember when Paulina and Cindy graced the covers of fashion magazines twenty years ago? Welcome back to 1986...

Of course we're all a little embarassed about the big hair now, but we think Cindy still looks great! If only Cybill Shepherd were aging more gracefully.

Stephanie Seymour and Alber Elbaz Talk Soup

We all agree Stephanie Seymour has a perfect bod, and OK, I don't hate her, but did you know she can write too? She interviewed Lanvin's Alber Elbaz for Interview magazine - whom I happen to be intrigued by, he's so discrete yet so opinionated - and you can see what I mean by their chat over soup. I suggest you print this one out, there's lots of juicy bits . . .

For instance, have you ever noticed Lanvin's logo? In the spirit of Mother's Day, I'd like to point out it's a mother and daughter holding hands - original Lanvin designer Jeanne Lanvin and her daughter. When Elbaz took the helm at the house in 2001, he did not change the emblem. Elbaz explains, "I love and respect women. I work mostly with women. And you know, our logo for Lanvin is a mother and a daughter. I've always said, 'It's not a lion, and it's not a horse. It's a mother and a daughter.' I find the logo very emotional."

Another interesting fact: the entire Lanvin team eats lunch together every day. The interns are in charge of the food, and when they expressed annoyance for their seemingly mundane task, Elbaz replied: "I said to them, 'By going out and buying food for everyone, you'll get to know Paris, and you can practice your French.' I think when our relationship starts with food bringing people together, it gets deeper."

The last indicator Elbaz knows his stuff: he admits women are better drivers than men. "It's so important to have that intuition of women, that only women can give. Have you ever seen a man drive, Stephanie? They will never ask for directions, even if they're lost . . . women will ask 70 people in the first second - but they will get there sooner."

Fab Flash: Rachel Bilson, InStyle Fashion Editor

Rachel Bilson is spreading her fashion wings by writing for InStyle magazine. In the May issue, the celebrity designer has her own page (page 148) named, Ask Rachel. "I’m actually flattered more than anything that people want to ask me questions about style. I am honored to do it,” said Bilson.

In her editorial debut, Rachel answers readers style questions and dishes on her favorite Spring items, which include Lela Rose for Payless flats, Lanvin sandals, and Matta scarves. When asked if it's OK to pair a big shoulder bag with a cocktail dress, Rachel replied, "You can absolutely wear a large purse with a party dress. In fact, I prefer it. Of course, it shouldn't be the size of a carry-on, and anything with an overly large strap is too casual. But a funky purse can offset the fuss of fancy." Model of the Week: Hilary Rhoda

Hilary Rhoda has been a longtime favorite around here. Much like Christy Turlington, her classic American good looks make her one of the most approachable models out there. But, in Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue, Hilary proves that she can be just as sexy as she can be sweet. I recently spoke with the 22-year-old about her favorite designers, experience on the SI set, and traveling.

Who are your favorite designers?

I am a huge fan of Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and Zac Posen, but there are so many other new and established designers that it’s hard to commit to only three.

What are three words that describe your personal style?
I think classic, confident, and comfortable.

What is the best and worst thing about modeling?

The best thing about modeling is the traveling and all the wonderful places you see while shooting. On the other hand, the worst part is the traveling and the schedule where you’re never in one city for very long and you miss your family and friends.

What was the coolest thing about being in Sports Illustrated?

Sports Illustrated has been the magazine credited by so many models for making their careers. I am honored to now be a part of that family of women who have made names for themselves and whom so many people respect.

What is your favorite bikini style and how many swimsuits do you own?

I like the typical triangle string bikini, it's the easiest for me to wear. I have never counted how many swimsuits I own, but it's way up there. I love buying bathing suits every Spring to get myself excited for the warm weather.

A Few Fab Words With Ralph Lauren Model Ubah Hassan

Not too long ago I told you about Ralph Lauren model Ubah Hassan, but how about some more? The 21-year-old was discovered in Canada at the age of 17 and shortly thereafter signed on with Click Model Management. Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani cast her in the magazine's first-ever black issue in 2008, then Mr. Lauren handpicked her to be his Spring '09 face. Lucky girl. I recently caught up with the Somalian beauty about her favorite designers, the modeling industry, and personal style.

Who is your favorite designer right now
Ralph Lauren.

What are three words that describe your personal style?
Daytime: comfortable and relaxed. Evening: elegant and sexy.

What is one destination you still need a stamp for on your passport?
Paris.

John Mayer, Secret Fashion Player, Take 2

You may or may not have been convinced John Mayer is a secret fashion player in my first story, so let's give it another go. Maybe a sexier photo will help? A sexier photo of Mayer with shopping bags?! I spot a Louis Vuitton bag amongst others carried by a tattooed, tan arm.

OK, down to business. In this edition, Mayer talks about how the Japanese are ahead of the fashion curve (true), gushes about a cool pair of LV pants he bought last year (was that what was in this bag?!), and continues to tell us his style tips . . .

The Japanese are so forward thinking.

"No, they are past-thinking. That’s what is so forward about it. The Japanese will put out magazines devoted to denim for the '50s. You will find full-on books, encyclopedic in nature, all about old motorcycle jackets from the '40s and '60s. So all they are really doing is going through time and finding the greatest version of something and then mass-producing."

What's in your closet?

"I have a closet that’s like the greatest collection of leather jackets and Belstaff's. I know everything down to the name of these jackets but I normally just throw on jeans and a t-shirt. I’m a big Rick Owens guy. Love Rick Owens."

"Number two. Every brand that at least has some solvency to have a store in NYC let’s say. Every single brand makes at least one garment that is worth owning. If you walk into a store because your friend wants to go into G-Star, no offense to G-star, look around and find the best G-star piece. Keep your eyes open. Don’t be a whore for labels. When it’s time, go into a store. Louis Vuitton makes one killer piece that looks nothing like Louis Vuitton every single year. Last year I bought this pair of racing pants. They are like the baggiest, coolest, cottony pants. They are billowy and have a tight hem. They are almost parachutey. Nothing like the LV design language. Everyone breaks design language one time per season. Find it, buy two of them.

"Number three. You never want to look like you bought all your stuff on the same day. Create a rotation. So you want to slowly move things into rotation, even if it means you don’t pop a tag for six months. Slowly move it into rotation. Don’t look like you are hanging out in Biscayne Bay. You know what I’m talking about? Don’t Biscayne Bay.

"Last one. It’s what I call 'long ago and hard to find.' That means, every two garments you buy every season, put them away. Don’t even think about popping them open. That means that a year and a half later when you break it out - assuming it wasn’t ever mass-produced - it will sort of juxtapose itself perfectly with the culture and the style of the day. People will say, Where’d you get that amazing jacket, and you’ll say it was hard to find two years ago. And that is how your style is untouchable."

Freaky or Fabulous: Grace Jones' Piercing Performance Gear

It's Grace Jones mania around here. Ever since I saw her on the cover of V Magazine's Spring issue, I re-fell in love with her brazen ways. The singer recently performed in London; she took the stage wearing nothing but a satin blazer, fishnet stockings, leather gloves, and a disc on her head. Not many people can pull this off without looking crazy, but if anyone can, it's Grace. What do you think - freaky or fabulous?
