Trend Alert: Summer Booties

I understand wearing boots in the Summer is a geographical thing. For example, a gal in Washington DC (hot, sticky) may balk at the thought, while a chick in San Francisco (foggy, breezy) may bask in it. But I must aver the cuteness of Summer booties. Myla lingerie model and social Polly Delevigne exhibits said cuteness - pug alert!

Pair slightly tough, open-toe booties with a sweet sundress and voila! Modern girlie. Black is the most extreme, neutrals and metallics lend a lighter touch. And look on the bright side - come Fall, these become Fall booties. Smarties.

The intricate origami pleats are a unique touch, and I love how the actress added a rocker vibe to her look by accessorizing with a punky black and gold Roger Vivier clutch. Gap Reveals Its Cool, New Denim Collection

Gap is giving its denim collection a trendy makeover with the launch of its new 1969 Premium Jeans collection. The revised denim collection enlisted the help of premium denim designers to create a quality piece falling within Gap's price range of $60. Furthermore, the new collection is budget friendly and slick. “Across the board, we want it to feel sexy and authentic,” said Gap’s VP of design, Patrick Robinson. “Women want their a- and thighs to look great, and guys just want something easy.” The 1969 Premium Jeans collection drops in August and will include a bevy of skinny and boyfriend cuts along with denim shoes by Pierre Hardy, tops, and hats by Albertus Swanepoel.

In between Fashion Week festivities, I checked out Aloha Rag's new store in Greenwich Village. The clothes were amazing, and I couldn't help myself from noticing the beautiful sales people. I wonder if they came from Hawaii, too?

Style For Style: Back Friendly Handbags

I recently heard of a girl who complained she could no longer use her large chain-handle Chanel bag because her doctor said it's bad for her back. What a shame. You pay thousands of dollars for the purse of your dreams, and and it turns out to be a pain in the back. That's not OK. If you're in the same predicament, let's get you out of it!

You shouldn't carry around any more than 10 percent of your body weight. So if you're 130 pounds, your bag should be no heavier than 13 pounds. Stay away from handbags that are heavy even without anything inside.
Avoid long-strapped bags and chain handles. The former swings around as you walk, while the chain handle digs into your skin.
When wearing shoulder bags, make sure the longest your bag sits is around your waist or bellybutton area. Satchels with short handles are preferable.

Slouchy bags are OK, but structured bags are best for health purposes.
I am not advising you go out and buy a fanny pack, but you may want to reconsider really oversize bags. The smaller your bag, the less things you'll put in it, and the less heavy it'll be. There are stylish belt bags you can look into.
Plastic, satin, nylon, and canvas bags are perfect because they're not as heavy as leather. If you like leather, opt for a lighter leather like with Foley + Corinna's City Tote.
Heavy designer bags to stay away from if you want to avoid back pain: large chain-handle Chanel bags, Balenciaga's large motorcycle tote with heavy studs, Marc Jacobs's Stam bag, and any Zac Posen bag, to name a few.

Looks like Lois Lane stepped out of the shadows and emerged a super fashion icon. We've been trailing Bosworth for a while now, and this varicolored sequin Chanel dress would have been enough but Bosworth pushed the envelope further with her funky Pierre Hardy shoes and aqua eyes. Is she a winner?

Trend Alert: Blanc de Blanc

Naturally, we are seeing shoes of the Blanc de Blanc persuasion, what with the weather warming and all. This includes both white and off white options. While I'm a puritan who says go white or go home, sometimes white is too stark, too bright, too cheesy. Christina Ricci made it just right by balancing her moody Bill Blass floral dress with a pair of light ivory Manolos. As well, white might have been too bold against the red carpet - things only the keenest of stylists thinks of. Take a cue, or two, from this Blanc de Blanc beauty.
