Did I call it or did I call it? Christian is the winner of Project Runway Season 4! Though my personal vote goes to Jillian and her simply adorable, flirty dresses and skirts, I knew Christian was going to win. Remember: I was there, folks. Alas, he was the people's favorite, your favorite, and now Posh's favorite so it was destiny, right?

The Future "Project Runway" Hopefuls!

As you know, we are counting down the days until "Project Runway" Season Four debuts. Come November, we will be in pure fashion designer competition bliss - perfect to curl up and catch a marathon on a stormy Saturday, while taking breaks to do some gift shopping online. I painted a nice picture huh? Anyway, the new breed has been released and here is the first group photo. You have our favorite judges - Heidi, Nina and Michael - and of course, the mentor with the most soothing voice, Tim Gunn. And just look at the colorful bunch! This is fashion fun just waiting to happen.

I went ahead and judged these aspiring designers by their covers and here are my three picks, purely based on personal style. On the left there's the pretty girl, Jillian, who hails from Long Island and is a Parsons alum (nice). In the center is stud muffin Rami, who lists Alexander McQueen as a favorite designer and claims a hot pair of leather boots is a fashion must, fierce. On the right is the lovely Victorya, who spells her name cool and already claims polished with an edge according to this outfit. This year a handful of ballsy designers, celebrities, and industry insiders broke free from their comfort zones and undertook revolutionary projects. Diane von Furstenberg created a Wonder Woman of a collection, Viktor & Rolf broke runway tradition, and Barneys New York's Simon Doonan tied the knot . . . with his boyfriend! But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Read on.

Viktor & Rolf sparked a new virtual runway trend.
Rihanna became the Gucci/UNICEF spokeswoman.
Vogue Italia published its first ever, all-black issue.
Simon Doonan married longtime beau Jonathan Adler.
Victoria Beckham did it all. She created a dress collection, judged Project Runway Season Four's finale, modeled for Marc Jacobs, and signed a deal with Emporio Armani underwear campaign.

Diane von Furstenberg created a Wonder Woman collection, a comic book, launched her "Women We Can" campaign, and hosted a fabulous post-show dinner at New York Fashion Week where yours truly witnessed the action first hand.
Net-a-Porter sold Halston's comeback collection the day after the show, signed an exclusive deal with London house Preen, and created a limited-edition trend book.
Karl Lagerfeld staged another elaborate collection and created a Chanel mobile art pavilion.
Gwyneth Paltrow did a mini movie with Tod's and launched a lifestyle website, Goop.Cute!
The controversial April Vogue cover with Gisele Bundchen and LeBron James was accused of racially stereotyping.
The 2008 Costume Institute Gala went superhero on us.
CFDA made major strides. It announced its fashion award winners (Congrats Womenswear Designer of the Year Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein), backed the model health issue, gave Alexander Wang the 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award, and threw two huge events: 2008 CFDA Awards in June, and 2008 CFDA Awards in November.

Project Runway Wrap-Up: What the Elle?

We waited patiently for two long weeks for the next installment of Project Runway. And, having seen the photos from New York Fashion Week, I was anxiously wondering what sort of crazy, unexpected plot twist could have possibly landed four finalists-not three, as planned-on the Bryant Park runways. So last Wednesday, I tuned in, on the edge of my couch, ready with baited breath to see the wild season shocker! How, oh how, could all four make it to the finals?

Oh, no reason, really. They all just deserved it.

I'm sorry, Project Runway, but that has got to be one of the lamest turns of events in reality show history. This is a contest! Since when do Heidi and Nina Garcia do things just to be nice?! In this case, I have to side with Jeffrey. To see why, read more

I think Jeffrey said it best when he said:

Anyway, onto the wrap-up. The episode began at the offices of Elle magazine, where Nina Garcia explained how much fashion editors value a designer's ability to express his or her point of view. For that reason, this week's challenge threw out the strictures and guidelines of episodes past, asking each designer simply to create an outfit that best conveyed his or her personality as designer. Each contestant would then choose three words to describe what their looks were all about, and the winner would be featured on Elle magazine's First Look Page.

After so many weeks of rules, the designers just weren't sure how to handle the freedom. As Uli groaned, "I got so used to having guidelines." She dealt with the issue by letting Jeffrey model her dress.

Michael, too, had a serious case of designer's block, admitting, humble as ever, “I’m just stumped. I definitely was having a major brain freeze.” Finally, he comes up with an idea for a plum-colored evening gown, to be constructed out of meticulously woven strips.

Tim pays a visit to Jeffrey, praising his red, white, and blue frock as "really unexpected." To Uli, on the other hand, he admonishes: "Don't. Bore. Nina," prompting Uli to tear up her entire design and start all over. She then leads us into commercial with typical Uli charm: “Coming up, Uli doesn’t finish her dress but watch what happens on Project Runway.”

The designers then learn that they will have six fewer hours to finish their projects, and they'll have to spend the time instead photographing their models on location. They'll then choose the magical three words based on the photos.

For his image, Michael settles on "sexiness, sensuality, sultry," adding "I even made a white girl look like she had some ass." But Uli-who blatantly snatched away Michael's favorite model-has another opinion: "To me, it looks like one of these ads in a magazine, you know, 'I'm alone at home, please call me at 1-800...whatever.'

The contestants are judged by the usual suspects, as well as by the fashion writer for the Wall Street Journal. (You know that Laura must be thrilled by this!) Jeffrey’s dress is actually really cool and looks like it would be right at home in the Anthropologie catalog. That is, except for the unfinished look and uneven hem.

Laura's is pretty and well-made, as usual, but also her usual. As Michael Kors points out, cocktail and evening is okay, but "you’ve got to broaden what that means."

As Kors demeans Jeffrey's dress as "a little too pretty," Jeff attempts to show his sensitive side by holding his model's hand. No, seriously, he really did that.

In the end, Uli wins the challenge with a dress that's only slightly different than her other designs. But I have to agree that it was the best and, aside from Laura's, the most polished and well-made.

But, alas: No one gets eliminated. According to the judges, they are all just too different! It's just too difficult to choose! All I have to say is, they'd better shape up and pick a winner at the end. We'll have to wait another week to see the outcome though: Tune in tonight for a special reunion episode of Project Runway.

The Best of Project Runway Season Five

Let's reminisce. Project Runway season five is coming to a close, with the final two episodes nearing. It hasn't been the most funny or dramatic season, but it has produced the biggest pool of talent. It's always exciting to make it to the final four and have your personal favorite. I think I'll wait to share mine, but here's a collection of some of the best of the season. Happy Birthday to the Fierce Christian Siriano!

On Tuesday night, Project Runway Season Four winner Christian Siriano celebrated his 23rd birthday. But he didn't have to plan anything; it was a surprise! The place was Citrine in New York City. The fabulous guest list included Leigh Lezark, who was also the night's DJ, actress Leven Rambin, and American's Next Top Model alum Kim Stolz. An interesting mix, right? That about sums up the adorably charismatic Christian. From the looks of it, the birthday boy had a blast and then some. Posing with his birthday cupcakes, clapping, kissing his guests - yeah, that sounds like Christian. Welcome to the party.

Fab Flash: Nina Garcia to Guest Star on Ugly Betty

When Ugly Betty returns with new episodes on April 24, it may seem like Project Runway is taking the spotlight.

PR judge Nina Garcia and, as earlier reported, PR season four winner Christian Siriano are both making cameos on the campy fashion show. No word yet on what roles they play, but I'm sure curious. They follow behind Project Runway ringleader Tim Gunn, who appeared on the show as a fashion reporter last February. Fun!

Sneak Peek! Project Runway Season 4 Runway Show

As if I'm not already thrilled for Season Four of Project Runway, a preview of what to expect rolled out on the catwalk to kick off the new season!

Each of the 15 designers were responsible for creating three outfits, and from the looks of it, this is going to be the most talented bunch yet. Even Tim Gunn thinks so: "This is the first season I've said any one of the designers is talented enough to win the entire season," he said after the show at Lincoln Center.

Among the selections are cropped military coats, jewel-toned dresses, metallic frocks, Grecian draping, high-waisted shorts, long jersey dresses, pant suits, and hats.

Now we just have to wait until November 14 to see the designers in action.
