A Fabby Halloween: Punky Brewster

She was so '80s. She was so cute. She was so my hero. Seriously, she was a couple years older than me and I thought she was the coolest. So much, in fact, that in third grade I asked my teacher to address me as 'Punky.' The fact that I just confessed that somewhat embarrassing bit of personal history shows how much I care (tear).

But back to Punky, the real Punky. She was the most chipper orphan I ever saw - with the most unique fashion sense. Through her adventures with Henry, her pup Brandon, and her pals Cherie and Margaux, Punky spread her Punky Power. We witnessed her blossom into adolescence and boy did she blossom, i.e. Soleil Moon Frye publicly announcing her teenage breast reduction surgery, but I didn't notice. I just enjoyed the declarations like "holy mac-a-noley" and her funky fashions. It's never too late to embrace your inner Punky - do so this Halloween!

Cheap & Chic: Color Your Legs

We've been seeing colored stems for a while now. But it's an opportune time for a refresher. Geri Halliwell, here at her book signing in the UK, shows us how to pull it off successfully. The key is to keep the rest of your outfit monochrome, preferably dark. That way your legs aren't upstaged - and you don't look like Punky Brewster.

It's an easy and inexpensive way to incorporate color into your Fall wardrobe. Take a cue from Geri - wear a short black skirt, a sleek coat, colored tights, and patent pumps. Beret and leather gloves optional, though encouraged!

LA Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Whitley Kros

Whitley's Kros bohemian babe continues her journey through another LA Fashion Week. This time, striped tunics, easy-wear silk separates, animal prints, and the necessary Spring jumpsuit are falling out of her suitcase. Colors range from ivory to sherbet hues and vivid brights. A couple full-on exotic prints made their way onto loose blouses and skirts. Sheer also made a sexy cameo. The traveling elephant print is adorable and youthful. Layered beaded and gold jewelry adds keen styling and the funky knotted buns atop the models' heads would make Punky Brewster proud. While there are lots of messages in this collection, it is cohesive. This stylish nomad has clearly mastered the art of sophisticated mix matching.

OMG! I Could Have Had My Own Fashion Design Party!

My love for fashion began at an early age. I played in my mom's makeup and clothes, I was a BIG Barbie fan, my first idol was Punky Brewster (she was so cool and spunky that Punky) and I have subscribed to Vogue since I was twelve. I can't imagine what it would have been like to have my very own Fashion Design Party by FAO Schwartz, starting at $25,000. Here are the fabulous details:

FAO helps throw the party at the toy store in New York City with a real fashion designer, who helps the special girl and her lucky friends design original garments. Their very own designs are then handmade and finished by professionals. Within two months of the party, they experience a model's life by showing their creations at a special runway fashion show and ice cream party for 50 guests. Over the top? Just a little.

FABTV: Paula Abdul "Cold Hearted"

I know there are some other serious Paula Abdul fans beside me. Paula was actually one of my first idols, a bit later than Punky Brewster - you heard me right. Aside from Paula's antics today, she was wicked in her hey day. She could dance - shut up and dance! - she could sing, she was cute and she had style. Whether she was rockin' menswear or sultry dancewear, see video below, the girl was on top of her game. This video blew me away and tickled my dark side.

The old fashioned dance hall with scarce scaffolding provided the perfect playground for jazz dancing rebellion. And Captain Paula - in her groupie hat, black sheer top with black bra and skating skirt - led a scantily clad dance troupe in a raw, sensual yet poppy routine. Draw the curtains and get a glimpse of a tangled web of skin, fishnets and flexing muscles. This video is a testament of the power of Paula. Enjoy.
