New York Fashion Week Trend Alert: Quirk

I have come to realize that the trends are really all over the map for Spring. Which is cool, because this means we'll have variety and designers are doing their own thing, whether the outcome is good or bad. One direction a lot of designers did go was quirky. Whether they went the art route, like at Malandrino, the mad route, like at Marc Jacobs, or stepped slightly out of their comfort zone, like at Rebecca Taylor, quirk is the way of the Spring.

Fab Flash: Model Too Young For Aussie Fashion Week

She was set to be the face of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week in September, but now Melbourne City Council is saying that 15-year-old Claire Quirk is too young. Councillor Fiona Snedden objected to the choice of such a young girl: "I have a fundamental issue about this. There needs to be a time when we stop and say, 'Is it wrong to have models this young?'"

The Australian Fashion Council supports the restrictions on models younger than 16 working at big fashion shows, saying younger teenagers were ill-equipped to face issues such as sexualisation, alcohol, and rejection. This move follows the recommendation last week by the British Model Health Inquiry that models under 16 be banned from London Fashion Week.

New York Fashion Week ignites some trends, but it's in London where the envelope is pushed beyond the limit. Take, for example, Giles Deacon's Pac-Women. London Fashion Week is nearing completion, but there was enough quirk to last a lifetime, or at least until next season. While overexposure started in New York, the king of quirk, Henry Holland, took the concept to a whole new, playful level. Proceed with caution.

Don't fret, there are a lot of options to choose from to camouflage the areas you feel funny about and compliment the parts you love. Fab's here to help you find that perfect swimsuit.

Broad Shoulders: While adding a pop of color, bright, wide banded bottoms will also balance and detract attention to shoulders. Avoid creating a v-neck silhouette by opting for a square neck top.
Athletic Shape: Show off a boyish figure in a halter top with feminine detailing. Prints, ruffles and side ties will add some girly curves and avoid wearing plain and solid suits.
Tummy Conscious: Tankinis and retro swimsuits can work wonders for the tummy conscious. Both styles conceal the tummy area and are fashionably cute. Stay away from solid colors and tiny bikinis.
Wide Hips: Darker bottoms paired with lighter bikini tops will detract attention from the lower half of the body. Make sure to buy a close fitting bottom to avoid adding unwanted volume to the hip area.

Not too long ago I purchased a tiny gold dagger necklace and a shell crescent necklace from Pretty Little Thing NYC. I was instantly drawn to its variety - current collections range from mercury rising to golden days to hot child in the city to she's a rainbow. Each collection is reasonably priced, and has its quirk, its charm. And look, Alexa Chung has also fallen for PLT's jewels; she recently wore its lucky elephant necklace to the I Heart Ronson's party in NYC. Along with hers, I love nine other PLT stunners. Teen Choice Awards: Best Dressed

While there were lots of winners at the Teen Choice Awards, only one lovely lady will take home the award for best dressed. Black and white seemed to work the best on the green grass carpet. Jordana, Leighton, and Emma all showed different takes on the classic color combo. Ashley Tisdale rocked our worlds with her two-tone dress and rad accessories, while Alexis delivered some much needed quirk. I think I have a feeling who takes home this crown . . .
