Leighton Meester's body is smokin', but by no means curvalicious. So why am I using her as a poster child for curves? Because in her BCBG dress, she proves that you don't need major curves to look womanly. Here, her body looks more hourglass-like than usual, thanks to the dramatic racerback bodice of her LBD.

Notice how the straps sit closer in, away from her shoulders, and how the sides dramatically curve below her armpits? That inverted cutout draws in your gaze and makes you picture an hourglass figure. Of course, a body-conscious fit also helps to move this illusion along. Watch out, dangerous curves ahead!

Phillip Lim's Spring 2012 collection was built around the ideas of geometry, activewear, and kites. Yes, those wispy things we send up to the sky inspired Lim's soft, flowing clothes, many of which ruffled and moved with the slightest breeze. There was lots of silk, from side-slit trousers to delicate dresses with geometric ruffles. There were sporty pieces as well, including tops that looked like they had been cut from a thin rubber (more chic than it sounds), micro twill utility vests, and a bonded leather round collar jacket. The trousers will be a must have next season, done in soft colors like limoncello and lavender for ultimate breezy style. So, too, will be the metallic silver sandals that look so insanely good with Lim's pastel-hued offerings.

Trends: Sporty, structural shapes, pastels, vests.
Colors: Soft pastels like limoncello, lilac, and shell pink; tempered with black, ivory, and pecan.

The Karl Lagerfeld for Macy's collection is one of the most anticipated collaborations of the season and the latest batch of photos from the line reveal some promising pieces for Fall. The 45-piece collection, dropping in stores and online on Aug. 31, stays true to Lagerfeld's classic aesthetic showing a good helping of black and white pieces, via tweed coats, high-collar cotton dresses, and faux leather pants, along with a smattering of hot pink tops and Karl-print tees priced from $50 to $170. Here are our favorite pieces from the collection:

This simple black dress, seen above, with a slightly oversized collar. We can already see cool girls like Alexa Chung and Zoe Saldana wearing it with heels or loafers.

The moody floral print sheer blouse. We'd wear these black leather shorts and booties for a fresh, Fall-transition outfit.

The high-collar tweed dress. The modern racer-back detail and strong neckline are the perfect contrast against the classic tweed texture.

Gear Review: Be Present Easy Cami

Before baby, I always wore tops with built-in shelf bras to a yoga class, and my girls stayed perfectly covered and under control. But now that motherhood has blessed me with some larger ladies, the thin, lightweight, elastic shelf-bra doesn't even come close to cutting it on the support front. I've had to put my shelf-bra tanks on the shelf for a while (until I'm done nursing) and am embracing simpler tanks with no built in support. This way I can pair my top with my own bra, to create the support I need.

2011 Fall New York Fashion Week: Vera Wang

Vera Wang conjured up a romantic story for her Fall 2011 collection filled with pretty pleats. Her inspiration, the "English aristocracy of the 1930s," was translated into an abundance of modern elegance via sheer chiffon pleated gowns dipped in autumnal-appropriate hues. Dressy confections on their own, but Vera gave it her own fresh twist by pairing them with an amazing selection of slick coats - ranging from leather and techno-mesh creations to downright decadent oversized hood jackets - all lined with fox fur.

Furthering her functional yet fancy vibe were perfectly scrunched leather gloves and sky-high platform booties. And while the collection lacked variety, Wang showed the perfect juxtaposition between femininity and function. We can already imagine the Oscar-attending A-listers knocking down her door . . .

Trends: Ethereal pleated dresses, fur-trimmed utility coats.
Colors: Loden, gray, wine, ivory, mustard.

2011 Fall New York Fashion Week: Doo.Ri

Doo-Ri Chung is known for her signature draping skills but for her Fall 2011 collection seen earlier this evening at Eyebeam Gallery in Chelsea, the designer mixed things up. In addition to showing languid jersey gowns, some slit high to the thigh, the designer introduced a new category to her repertoire: slick tailored pieces comprised of felted wool coats, nylon jackets, and trousers. Dresses, embellished with cool cord macrame also played an integral role in the storyboard inspired by artist Beverly Semmes. This concept, described by Doo-Ri as "linear structure," adds a sharp touch without looking too severe - perfect for that city girl wanting to add a little edge to her look.

Trends: Long silhouettes, mohair trim, high-slit gowns and long skirts, dolman sleeves, sheer and leather inserts, cord macrame detailing.
Colors: Gray, sapphire blue, navy, beige.
Key Looks: A heather gray racerback gown with sheer inserts.
